ZAKK WYLDE: New 'Bringing Metal To The Children' Book Trailer
The handbook to all things heavy metal — "Bringing Metal To The Children" by Zakk Wylde, guitar legend and BLACK LABEL SOCIETYfrontman — will finally be released on April 10 via William Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers. Wylde invites all who dare onto the tour bus for tales of glory, debauchery, and general mayhem. The book is co-authored by Eric Hendrikx.
A brand new trailer for the book can be seen below.
An excerpt from the book is available at this location (Facebook "Like" required).
In "Bringing Metal To The Children", Zakk Wylde, the man who turned heavy metal touring into a journey of fantastical excess, shares what really goes on behind tour bus windows and backstage doors. The twenty-five year music veteran of the OZZY OSBOURNE band and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY details his survival techniques for maintaining a life on the road, managing a band of raging vikings, and somehow making it on stage and blowing the crowd away night after night.
Beginning with Wylde's "true rocker test" (TRT), the reader answers and self-scores ten questions to determine if he is a true rocker and should continue reading, or if he's just a complete tool who needs to hand the book to someone more metal. Wylde continues the journey with his epic stories about life on the road, using his BLACK LABEL SOCIETY (BLS) coaching techniques to instruct the reader on proper touring hygiene, pre-concert preparations, and post-show etiquette. The road stories include wild nights with many of heavy metal's gods, including Rob Zombie, EddieVan Halen, Dimebag Darrell, ALICE IN CHAINS' Mike Inez, SKID ROW's Snake Sabo, METALLICA's Lars Ulrich, professional wrestlers Chris Jericho, Bubba Dudley and Stone Cold Steve Austin, UFC former light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin and, of course, the Godfather of heavy metal, Ozzy Osbourne.
"Bringing Metal To The Children" also features Wylde's roadmap for success in the music business, tour planning and exclusive tips for the aspiring "metal musician," as well as the best methods for surviving a mosh pit and plans for how to set up a shooting range on the tour bus.
About the authors:
In the two decades since Ozzy Osbourne hired him away from his job at a New Jersey gas station, Zakk Wylde has established himself as a guitar icon known and revered the world over. Wylde has won nearly every guitar award imaginable, graced countless magazine covers and is a major influence to a new battalion of rock guitarists. Writing and recording withOsbourne led to multi-platinum success, inspiring him to create the now-iconic BLACK LABEL SOCIETY in 1998. In the decade plus since, BLS has turned the notion of what a rock band should be upside down by inspiring legions of fans (known as Berserkers) all over the world to follow the mantra: Strength, Determination, Merciless, Forever (SDMF for short).Wylde and his Berserkers have established a heavy metal institution true to the vision of uncompromising, unfiltered and unrestrained rock 'n' roll. To date, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY has sold more than 3.5 million albums worldwide and continues to be a massive presence on the worldwide touring and merchandising circuits. BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's latest album,"Order Of The Black", was released in August 2010 and debuted at No. 4 on The Billboard 200 album chart.
Writer, photographer, and fellow Berserker Eric Hendrikx is a notable contributor to more than a dozen books, including Forrest Griffin's New York Times bestsellers "Got Fight?" and "Be Ready When the Sh*t Goes Down". A lifelong musician, Hendrikx played guitar in the rock bandSNAKE RIVER CONSPIRACY and toured with bands, includingQUEENSRŸCHE. He currently lives in Southern California with his son Stone.

During an interview aired immediately after the announcement,METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich stated about how the bands were selected to perform at Orion Music + More, "Music, to us, is really diverse; it covers all grounds. If you took the four of ours;' iPods and scanned through those, you would find the biggest variety and diversity of music, so we're trying to bring that spirit to this festival."
He added, "A lot of the European festivals, and certainly alsoLollapalooza and Bonnaroo and so on, in outside lands in America, these festivals are really about diversity and about different experiences. You go there, you go check out bands you don't know a lot about, you go check out bands where it will be the first time you'll experience them. So there's a whole big pile of stuff — from punk to thrash to country to, sort, of alternative, straight-ahead rock, blues. But it's really about diversity."
"We'd love to have people open up their focus. Maybe they come to see us but wind up discovering some blues or country act," METALLICAguitarist Kirk Hammett told USA Today.
Added Ulrich: "It's all about balance, keeping things fresh."
"We've done festivals our whole career," said METALLICAguitarist/vocalist James Hetfield. "We wondered what made those people come back year after year, and it was because it was someplace you had to be. Maybe we can create something like that."
The METALLICA members explained that Orion was named in honor of the band's late bassist Cliff Burton. "Orion" is also the name of the instrumental song from METALLICA's 1986 album "Master Of Puppets", which is widely considered to be one of the greatest metal LPs of all time.
"We've had the idea of doing our own lifestyle festival with lots of diverse music and fun and games for years," said Ulrich. "Finally this year all the practical ducks lined up in a row, and we are beyond psyched to bringOrion to our fans, friends and the curious. After the most incredible of weeks ever in December 2011 celebrating our 30th anniversary at the Fillmore in San Francisco, California, bringing the spirit of that week, the looseness of that week, the possibilities of that week, the fan interactive elements of that week, and the (fill in your own blank here) of that week to a festival setting is so exciting we can hardly contain ourselves."

“I recently did a track called ‘I'll F**k It’ with Killbot,” revealed Davis. “It's Sluggo and this kid Tyler Blue. The other music is me by myself.”
Davis added that there are many challenges to creating electronic music. “People don't understand the amount of f**king time and effort it takes to make these songs. F**k, rock is easy. You go in, you jam out the song, you play it, and it's done. When you're producing dubstep music, most people don't have engineers. You're the engineer. That shit drives me crazy.”
Davis has said that he hopes to release the as-yet-untitled J Devil EP sometime this year.

According to IMDb.com, Hemingway & Gellhorn is “a drama centered on the romance between Ernest Hemingway and WWII correspondent Martha Gellhorn, Hemingway's inspiration for For Whom the Bell Tolls and the only woman who ever asked for a divorce from the writer." The film stars Nicole Kidman and Clive Owen. Hemingway & Gellhorn will air on HBO on May 28 at 9 p.m.

"I'd love it," said Corgan. "I don't have a problem with Idol or X Factor, I have a problem with when those things are not given the proper contextual hue. If there's an American Idol there should be a proper alternative counterbalance -- if there was hair metal, there was grunge, know what I mean?"

Festival-goers who purchase reserved seating weekend passes, as well as the first 1,500 people to buy general admission weekend passes, will get a digital download of a new solo album from System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian, set to be released in August.

In a recent interview with LAist.com, Mike D said that festival-goers should “expect the unexpected” when they come to the event. “The goal is to create a place where people can chat and hang out,” explained the rapper. “We want to provide a unique experience for everyone. The show is going to be pretty broad and eclectic with a lot of audio/visual installations as well as different light and paint-based installations.”
The Transmission LA: AV Club festival runs April 20 through May 6 at the Geffen Contemporary in Los Angeles, CA. For more information, head over toTheAvantGardeDiaries.com.
