ANTHRAX Joined By SLASH, CHUCK D At Hollywood 'Metal Alliance' Show
Last night in Hollywood, California, ANTHRAX, who are headlining the"Metal Alliance Tour", played to a sold-out crowd at the House of Blues. But the fans got a little more than ANTHRAX playing their classic"Among The Living" album front to back, or songs from the just-released covers EP, "Anthems".
Joining ANTHRAX on stage for their AC/DC cover of "T.N.T." was none other than Slash, who played lead on the song, and then, later in the show, Chuck D came out for "Bring The Noise", the song ANTHRAX andPUBLIC ENEMY recorded together in 1991.
Also in the House last night were SLAYER's Kerry King, John Tempestafrom THE CULT, Justin Chandellor from TOOL,DETHKLOK/"Metalocalpyse"'s Brendon Small and actor/musician Brian Posehn.

The CD was released in North America on March 19 (MRI/Megaforce), and on March 22 in Europe (Nuclear Blast).
ANTHRAX's latest full-length album, "Worship Music", sold 28,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at No. 12. The band's previous studio CD, 2003's "We've Come For You All", opened with just under 10,000 units to debut at No. 122.

Metallica Promises “Bigger and Badder” Museum Exhibit at Orion Music + More Festival
Festival-goers who attend Metallica’s second installment of their Orion Music + More festival will get to lay their eyes on some rare treasures from the band.
According to the festival’s website, the band will be bringing back their Metallica Museum exhibit and will offer a “bigger and badder” selection of the group’s memorabilia. Included in the exhibit are amps, lyrics, merchandise, artwork and stage props, as well as classic Metallica guitars, including the last bass guitar that late bassist Cliff Burton ever played.
The Orion Music + More festival, which will include headlining sets by Metallica and Red Hot Chili Peppers, takes place June 8-9 at Belle Isle Park in Detroit, Michigan. Other bands set to take the stage at the event include Rise Against, Deftones, Silversun Pickups, Dropkick Murphys and Foals.
Skillet Reveals Details for Upcoming Concept Album, Rise
Skillet has unveiled the name and the release date for their ninth studio album. Rise will hit all the usual outlets on June 25. The upcoming concept album is a coming of age story about a “typical American teen” who is struggling to find his place in the world.
“The narrative idea happened after we had 10 or 11 of the songs chosen,” said frontman/bassist John Cooper in a statement. “As we recorded them, we started to realize that there was something going on -- that the album was really telling a story. Realizing that, I knew we needed to make it as powerful as we could.”
You’ll get you first taste of Rise when the release’s first single, “Sick of It,” arrives at radio and on iTunes on April 9.
METALLICA 'Museum' To Return At This Year's 'Orion Music + More' Festival
METALLICA recently unveiled the lineup for the second annual Orion Music + More festival, which will take place this year at Belle Isle in Detroit on June 8-9. METALLICA will once again headline both days, while the more than 30 other acts appearing on the weekend will include theRED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, RISE AGAINST, DEFTONES, SILVERSUN PICKUPS, BASSNECTAR, GOGOL BORDELLO, FOALS, TOMAHAWK, THE JOY FORMIDABLE, THE BRONX, DROPKICK MURPHYS and more.
Commented the band: "We're bringing back the Metallica Museum in 2013, so stay tuned for more details and information about all of the awesome memorabilia we'll have on hand in Detroit! Classic METALLICAguitars (including the last bass that Cliff Burton ever played), amps, lyrics, merchandise, stage props and more...except this time it will be BIGGER and BADDER!
"Last year, festival-goers basked in the glory of 30 years worth of band history and memorabilia in one single spot at the Metallica Museum. They strolled down METALLICA memory lane and snapped shots of the band’s rare guitars, like the originals James and Kirk used to record 'Kill 'Em All','Ride The Lightning', and 'Master Of Puppets', 'Justice' stage props, and vintage tour posters and t-shirts. For the Pushead fans in the crowd, the museum will display pieces of his original METALLICA artwork."
Drummer Lars Ulrich said in a statement, "Last year's Orion Music + More festival was hands down the highlight of the METALLICA calendar. A great time was had by all, especially the band members. The fact that it also resonated with enough of our fans and friends that it warrants another go-around in '13 is beyond exciting. I can think of no better place than the Motor City, with its rich and diverse history of music, for the second ride on our Orion festival train."
METALLICA based last year's first Orion show on the European festivals, which bring a large number of diverse musical acts together. Ulrich toldThe Pulse Of Radio the festivals themselves are now bigger than any individual band. "You know, the interesting thing about these festivals in Europe is they basically, they sell out every year without any of the bands being announced," he said. "People just go 'cause it's like a vibe. So I think if you can get to a point where people know that whatever's gonna happen is gonna be super-cool, and there's gonna be lots of great bands, lots of different bands, lots of cool, fun non-musical things — that's kind of what we're going for."
This year's Orion show will also see the return from last year of James Hetfield's Custom Car & Motorcycle Show, Kirk Hammett's Crypt, Lars Ulrich's Hit the Lights Film Tent and Robert Trujillo's Vans Vert Ramp alongside the Metallica Museum and other attractions.
The inaugural Orion Music + More was held last June in Atlantic City, New Jersey and featured acts like ARCTIC MONKEYS, AVENGED SEVENFOLD, MODEST MOUSE, THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM, CAGE THE ELEPHANT and others.
METALLICA headlined both nights, playing 1991's self-titled "black album" in its entirety one night and 1984's "Ride The Lightning" the other.

SEVENDUST's 'Black Out The Sun' Projected To Sell 30K-35K First Week
SEVENDUST's ninth studio album, "Black Out The Sun", is likely to sell between 30,000 and 35,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to industry web site Hits Daily Double. The estimate was based on one-day sales reports compiled after the record arrived in stores on March 26 via the band's 7Bros. Records in conjunction withADA Label Services. The CD was recorded at Architekt Music studios in Butler, New Jersey with engineer Mike Ferretti.
SEVENDUST's previous CD, 2010's "Cold Day Memory", sold around 27,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 12 on the Billboard 200 chart.
The band's 2008 effort, "Chapter VII: Hope and Sorrow", opened with 25,000 units to land at No. 19.
"Black Out The Sun" track listing:
01. Memory
02. Faithless
03. 'Till Death
04. Mountain
05. Cold As War
06. Black Out The Sun
07. Nobody Wants It
08. Dead Roses
09. Decay
10. Dark AM
11. Picture Perfect
12. Got A Feeling
13. Murder Bar
SEVENDUST drummer Morgan Rose told Billboard.com that the song"Decay" actually came from a riff left over from the "Cold Ray Memory"sessions.
"We were starting to get burnt and we didn't want to push it," Roserecalled. "So we had this riff, and we said, 'Let's jam it and see if anything comes of it.' And before you know it, it became a song that ends up on the record, and everybody listens to it and they end up picking that as the single, which was pretty cool."
The song "Murder Bar" was reportedly inspired by a Butler, New Jersey bar across from the hotel where SEVENDUST was staying while recording the new CD. Rumor had it the place was popular with many of New Jersey's murderers.
"It's a basic SEVENDUST record," guitarist Clint Lowery recently told"Source Of The Sound With Wendy Campbell". "There's nothing, like, too completely different than anything we've done before. It's got a darker vibe to it. We've got a good amount of the programming element in there. It's a lot of what we do — it's heavy and it's got its melodic element in it. So if you're a SEVENDUST fan, it's more along the lines of the second and third records we did — it's kind of like that. It's got a couple of throwback vibes to it. 'Animosity' and 'Home' [1999], if I can put those two records together, it would [sound similar to the new CD]."

Kings of Leon to Release “Youthful” New Album in September
Good news for Kings of Leon fans: bassist Jared Followill has revealed that the band will drop their sixth studio album later this year.
Speaking with NME, Followill says that fans can expect the release to hit stores sometime in September, and that the new tracks will sound similar to their earlier work.
"I thought we were going to make a really mature album but I'm amazed how youthful it sounds,” he notes. “It's like a mix of [our 2003 debut album] Youth and Young Manhoodand [2007’s] Because of the Times."
The band’s previous release, Come Around Sundown, made a big splash on the charts when it was released in 2010. It debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 album chart, selling more than 184,000 in its first week, according to Nielsen Soundscan.
Disturbed's David Draiman and John Moyer Weigh In on "Healthy" Indefinite Hiatus
Don’t worry, Disturbed fans: just because frontman David Draiman and bassist John Moyer are out on tour with other projects, that doesn’t mean that the band is breaking up. Draiman says that while he's enjoying his new side project Device, which includesFilter guitarist Geno Lenardo, he will always be a member of Disturbed.
“First of all, just to make it clear, I am still with Disturbed,” he tells ABC News Radio. “Never left. Never gonna leave. It’s my baby. This is gonna be healthy for Disturbed, it’s gonna be healthy for Disturbed’s fans, it’s gonna be a good thing in general. Everyone just kinda needs to let it be, relax, and we’ll back together eventually and in the meantime, we have Device.”
The singer adds the main reason for Disturbed to go on an indefinite hiatus was so that each member of the band could explore other opportunities. “There was a definitive reason to go away and that reason is to clear your head,” he explains. “You’re doing the same for 16 years, it becomes cyclical and it becomes predictable and it’s time for us to try and do some other things.”
Meanwhile, Moyer -- who became a member of heavy metal supergroup Adrenaline Mobin February -- says that while he's not sure what's next for Disturbed, he has made his new band his top priority.
“I don’t know what the future holds for Disturbed,” he tells ABC News Radio. “Right now I have to focus on what’s in front of me and my commitments are to Adrenaline Mob. If Disturbed called me tomorrow and said ‘Hey, we need you next week to go out on tour,’ I would have to say no because I’ve got a commitment right now to these guys.”
Both Device and Adrenaline Mob have a number of tour dates and music festival appearances scheduled for the next few months. Visit DeviceBand.com and Adrenaline Mob.com to view their full itineraries.

11. The Conflagration
12. The House Of Gold & Bones
"Do Me A Favor", was made available digitally on February 12. Taylorgave The Pulse Of Radio a preview of what to expect from the song. "It's quite aggressive, and actually the label asked me if I would go in and tame stuff down and I was like, 'No.' I'm not doing that," he said. "This is going out the way it is and I'm not gonna touch it up. I'm not gonna have people looking for a song that doesn't exist. This is the way it is on the album, that's the way it's going to be when we put it out to radio."
When asked by ThisIsNotAScene what fans can expect from the second part of "House Of Gold & Bones", Taylor said: "Part 2 is much darker [than the first part], if I'm honest. Aside from it being a completely different album, it feels more like a soundtrack to a movie in a lot of ways, man. It's really thematic. There are themes from part 1 that reveal themselves and that come again, musically. There's actually stuff from part 2 that you'll hear that's on part 1 and you'll be like, 'Fucking hell!'"
He continued: "We essentially recorded these, and this is where technology is now, so you could have these in a playlist on your iTunesand play them top to fucking bottom and really get that experience while you read both parts. So it's some of our darkest music, our most intricate and complex music, some of the best fucking lyrics I've ever written, to be honest. Even writing from a narrative like that, it was so challenging. Plus, it's got some of our best songs on it."
The "Do Me A Favor" video was directed by Phil Mucci, whose clip forHIGH ON FIRE's "Fertile Green" was named best video of 2012 byRevolver.
"House Of Gold & Bones - Part 1" came out last fall.
Music is just one of the mediums used to tell the "House of Gold & Bones" story, and Taylor recently revealed details of the new project with Dark Horse Comics of the same name, which follows, and expands on, the story contained within the albums. With stunning covers fromJason Shawn Alexander (Empty Zone, Batman, Abe Sapien), this four-issue limited series marks Taylor's debut in the comics genre. The first issue of the series will be out on April 17.
Taylor recently told Billboard.com recently that the group is planning a world tour in 2014 during which they will spend two nights in each city and perform both halves of its "House Of Gold & Bones" double album in their entirety.

LIMP BIZKIT's Collaboration With LIL WAYNE Available For Streaming
LIMP BIZKIT fan site TheArmpit has is streaming LIMP BIZKIT and Lil Wayne's new collaborative single, "Ready To Go". The track is being released via LIMP BIZKIT's new label home, Cash Money, Lil Wayne's longtime record company. "It'll be a great way to let the world know that [the band] is a part of us," Cash Money Records co-CEO and founderBryan "Birdman" Williams told Billboard.com a year ago. "It's rock, but it's hip-hop-rock. I think we got that hip-hop-rock swagger."
When LIMP BIZKIT's deal with Cash Money was announced last March, many wondered why the popular rap label would work with a band whose latest album, "Gold Cobra", has sold less than 100,000 copies in the United States since its June 2011 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. "LIMP BIZKIT, to me, is just a perfect match for us," said Birdman. "It was something that [Durst] was interested in doing, and I was already a fan, and I was like, 'Let's do it.' It's good for the brand, it will bring a different look for us, and we're definitely trying to expand on that side of music."
LIMP BIZKIT in 2011 parted ways with Interscope, the label that released all of the band's records thus far through its subsidiaries Flip,Geffen and Suretone Records.
"As both an artist and someone who has signed artists, I can say without a doubt that Cash Money is at the top of their game," Durst said in a statement. "What attracted me to the label is not only their great taste and hustle, but their belief in their artists and the family atmosphere. Slimand Birdman allow their artists to be themselves and encourage creative output and continued development. I look forward to bringing my vision as a director as well as my voice to the label and to LIMP BIZKIT putting out some of our best music to date. . . This is the most at home, comfortable, and confident I have felt in the business."
"Gold Cobra" was LIMP BIZKIT's first CD to feature the original lineup of Fred Durst (vocals), Wes Borland (guitar), Sam Rivers (bass), John Otto (drums), and DJ Lethal since 2000's "Chocolate Starfish And Hot Dog Flavored Water".

The "Vilify" single and video were officially released on February 19.Draiman told The Pulse Of Radio where the track is coming from musically and lyrically: "It is a very fierce introductory track for this record. It has a very strong fusion of that electronic element in there. Still very heavy, still very rhythmic. Very anthemic, very intensely melodic. It's a song that lyrically is talking about everyone out there who likes to make me out to be such a bad guy, this monster of epic proportions, which I'm really not."

ALICE IN CHAINS: New Single 'Stone' Goes To Radio
A 90-second sample of ALICE IN CHAINS' new single, entitled "Stone", can be streamed below. The track, which was released to radio earlier today, come off the band's new album, "The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here", which is due out on May 28 via Virgin/EMI.
ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell recently told Rolling Stonethat "The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here" is "a unique record that's completely different from anything we ever did," adding, "The band is moving ahead in new territory that we haven't been to before, but we haven't lost our identity." The Pulse Of Radio asked Cantrell to talk more about the band's evolution on its fifth studio effort. "The cool thing about record is it's a snapshot of time, of that group of individuals," he said. "And when you line up all of those records back to back, you can see where the band changes, evolves, you can maybe feel what they're going through, you know, and I think you could probably say that with all of our records. You can get a pretty good snapshot of what's going on there and, you know, we're in a different place now."
Cantrell told Revolver magazine that the title track's lyrics take on the beliefs of certain organized religions, saying, "What I've seen is the most basic message to most faith systems is in contradiction with how it gets applied . . . It always amazes me that some of the most hateful and hurtful things are done in the name of some sort of belief system."
"The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here" is ALICE IN CHAINS' second with William DuVall on vocals. It follows up 2009's "Black Gives Way To Blue", the group's first all-new collection of material in 14 years and first since the 2002 death of original singer Layne Staley.
ALICE IN CHAINS will hit the road on a spring trek that starts on April 25 in Miami Beach and includes headlining slots at the Rocklahoma, Carolina Rebellion, Welcome To Rockville and Rock On The Range festivals.
A person going by the online handle "TheSorceressKnight" atBLABBERMOUTH.NET has unveiled two additional images hidden in the cover artwork for the album.
When loaded into Photoshop, the main picture of a dinosaur skull reveals first a mirror image of that photo, and then underneath both what looks like a skull belonging to a demon or devil.

SEVENDUST: 'Decay' Video Released
"Decay", the new video from SEVENDUST, can be seen below. The track comes off the band's ninth studio album, "Black Out The Sun", which is being released on March 26 via SEVENDUST's 7Bros. Records label (through Warner Music Group's Independent Label Group). The CD was recorded at Architekt Music studios in Butler, New Jersey with engineerMike Ferretti.
SEVENDUST drummer Morgan Rose told Billboard.com that "Decay"actually came from a riff left over from the "Cold Ray Memory" sessions.
"We were starting to get burnt and we didn't want to push it," Roserecalls. "So we had this riff, and we said, 'Let's jam it and see if anything comes of it.' And before you know it, it became a song that ends up on the record, and everybody listens to it and they end up picking that as the single, which was pretty cool."
"Black Out The Sun" track listing:
01. Memory
02. Faithless
03. 'Till Death
04. Mountain
05. Cold As War
06. Black Out The Sun
07. Nobody Wants It
08. Dead Roses
09. Decay
10. Dark AM
11. Picture Perfect
12. Got A Feeling
13. Murder Bar

Incubus’ Mike Einziger Says He’s Not Working with Pearl Jam on Upcoming Album
Last Tuesday, a photo showing Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger posted a photo on his Twitter account of him standing next to Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder, along with the message, “In the studio with my girl and Eddie Vedder, recording strings for Pearl Jam's new album." The pic prompted a number of media outlets to report that Einziger would be contributing to PJ’s upcoming album.
On Friday, Einziger once again took to Twitter to clarify his post -- which has since been removed -- and let everyone know he isn't working with Pearl Jam on their album. He tweeted, “So media outlets, please stop announcing that I am playing on @pearljam new album. NOT TRUE.”
Noisecreep reports that it's Einziger’s girlfriend, violinist Ann Marie Simpson, who will be featured on Pearl Jam’s upcoming album and that the guitarist just stopped by the studio to watch her record with the band.
Dave Grohl Says Contestants Judged Too Harshly on Reality Singing Competition Shows
Dave Grohl apparently isn't a fan of TV singing competitions. The Foo Fighters frontman says the judges on shows like American Idol and The Voice don't let the contestants be themselves.
"I think people should feel encouraged to be themselves,” he tells NME. “That's what bums me out about those shows where people are judged so harshly by f**king musicians that hardly even play an instrument on their own f**king albums. It makes me really mad."
The Foo Fighters frontman adds that aspiring musicians shouldn’t let criticism deter them from their musical goals. "The next time someone says you're not a good singer say: 'F**k You’,” he notes. “I interviewed Neil Young and he said in his band someone said to him, 'The band's really great, but honestly you shouldn't be the singer.' If Neil Young had listened to that person then we wouldn't have had any Neil Young."

30 Seconds to Mars has posted a lyric video for “Up in the Air,” the first single from their upcoming fourth studio album, Love Lust Faith + Dreams. The five-minute clip features the song's lyrics flashing across the screen accompanied by NASA footage of a satellite orbiting the Earth.

Love Lust Faith + Dreams will arrive in stores on Tuesday, May 21 and features 12 new tracks. SHINEDOWN Bassist Sprains Ankle
SHINEDOWN bassist Eric Bass suffered a second-degree ankle sprain during the band's performance last night (Friday, March 22) in Lubbock, Texas. After the concert, Bass was taken to the hospital and later tweeted a photo of him waiting in the ER room to be checked out (see below). In a separate Twitter update, the band posted a split photo ofBass performing onstage and a close-up of his swollen right ankle with a message asking fans to send their best wishes.
SHINEDOWN is in the process of wrapping up a tour with THREE DAYS GRACE and P.O.D.
SHINEDOWN's fourth album, "Amaryllis", came out last year. The CD debuted atop Billboard's "Rock Albums" chart and at #4 overall on The Billboard 200 — SHINEDOWN's biggest chart debut thus far — with over 105,000 units sold its first week out.
In a 2012 interview with SoundSpike, Bass stated about SHINEDOWN's return to the road after spending a year writing and recording the new CD: "It's been a lot of fun to start back off in some small rooms. We made a conscious decision to do that to get our legs back underneath us and kind of remember how to do this thing, since we spent so much time writing the record. But it's been really, really great to get out and see the fans again, see a lot of familiar faces and see a lot of faces we've never seen before, which is always nice. We have a moment in the night during the showwhere Brent [Smith, vocals] asks, 'Raise your hands if this is your first time seeing us.' Everywhere we go, half the room raises their hands. That's really gratifying to us … The demographic is definitely shifted for the band, too. When I started with the band, it was 18 to 30 year old males. Now it's kids and parents and males and females. It seems to be exploding, which is really great."
POP EVIL: Video Footage From The Studio
Grand Rapids, Michigan hard rockers POP EVIL will release their new full-length album, "Onyx", on May 14. The CD's first single, "Trenches", is available for streaming on the band's Facebook page.
A two-minute video clip of POP EVIL recording "Trenches" atGroovemaster Studios in Chicago with producer Johnny K can be seen below.
The message of "Trenches" applies to the world of art as well as the world of sports, the military, or anyone struggling with the economic downturn, like POP EVIL's home state of Michigan.
"It's about our battles," vocalist Leigh Kakaty says. "Not focusing on the things we can't control, if we really want to be a band that stands the test of time we have to write the music that connects. We have to dig our way out of the trenches."
During a slump in the music industry, POP EVIL is living proof that you can still make a living following your dreams. "It's a matter of time before rock and roll is in the forefront again and we want to be part of that,"Kakaty says.
After three Top 5 songs at rock radio, a fourth in the Top 10, a half million digital singles sold and over 1,000 shows a few short years into their impressive career, POP EVIL's return with "Onyx" is a swaggering, fistÂpumping, ballÂbusting ride through American rock. The grandiose melody of the '70s, the danger of the '80s, the emotion of the '90s and the loudest of modern riffs all have a home in POP EVIL, who fashion a fresh sound that looks to the future through the prism of rock's past.
ANTHRAX Honored With Jerseys At Yankee Stadium
Big dreams came true for the members of thrash-metal band ANTHRAX in September 2011 when they returned to their hometown of New York and stepped on the stage at Yankee Stadium with the other three acts that are part of the so-called "Big Four" of 1980s thrash metal — METALLICA,SLAYER and MEGADETH. As the only one of the "Big Four" bands whose members are from New York, a number of the band have many childhood memories of attending Yankees games, making the concert especially significant.
Specialized ANTHRAX Yankees jerseys have since been made for the occasion are currently hanging in the historic baseball stadium for all to see. Check out a photo below.
For ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante playing Yankee Stadium was extremely personal; his father, also named Charlie, was a huge baseball fan and onetime budding ballplayer, who died when Charlie Jr. was 5.
"I would give all this up just to have my father around," Benante toldESPN.com, "but to have him be there and see me playing Yankee Stadium, I know for him it would probably be the greatest thing ever."
Benante's father, who was scouted by the majors, would regale a four-year-old Charlie with all the stats and facts about the Yankees players while the two played catch in the backyard. "My dad was a huge Yankeesfan," Charlie recalled. "I remember he always had the TV or radio on, listening to every Yankees game he could. He died when I was five, so he never knew about my success as a musician, but I know he would have been so proud of me playing Yankee Stadium. I know that in some way, he'll be there, giving me the power I'll need to knock it out of the park."
CLUTCH Frontman Says 'Self-Editing' And 'Recalculation' During Songwriting Is Never Good
Denise Falzon of Exclaim.ca recently conducted an interview with frontman Neil Fallon of Maryland rockers CLUTCH. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
Exclaim.ca: Your previous record, "Strange Cousins From The West", came out in 2009. Why such a long gap before releasing "Earth Rocker"?
Fallon: Well, we just didn't stop touring. We would plan on stopping and then some opportunity would present itself, like THIN LIZZY orMOTÖRHEAD or VOLBEAT, and it just kept going and going. Finally we decided to put our foot down and say, "Enough, let's just make this record."
Exclaim.ca: Was there a specific idea of where the band wanted to go with this record, musically?
Fallon: I think the one thing that we talked about was we just wanted to make a faster record and a more efficient record and I think that's really the only guidelines that we had.
Exclaim.ca: This record is definitely faster and also heavier than some of the more recent albums.
Fallon: We had written a couple fast songs and we realized we were having fun playing those songs, and it kind of threw a bit of cold water on our face because when you're a band for 20 years, it's easy to get into a comfort zone. We usually play between 95 and 100 beats-per-minute and that's all well and good, but sometimes you've just got to push yourself a little bit. I know Tim [Sult, guitarist] had mentioned that he felt like his guitar tone was getting too clean and he wanted to gain it up.
Exclaim.ca: What is the writing process like for CLUTCH these days?
Fallon: It's pretty much the same as it's been for the past 20 years. One of us will write a riff at home or we just get together and start jamming and then when somebody does something cool, we all kind of look at that guy and we say, "Do it again." Or Jean-Paul [Gaster, drummer] will come up with a beat and we'll try to write a riff around it. It's pretty organicand democratic, so when all is said and done, we can't say who wrote what exactly. And then those guys patiently wait for me to write lyrics, because I'm terribly slow at doing that, and then we keep at it until we feel satisfied.
Exclaim.ca: Is there a formula that you stick to when writing a CLUTCH song, or is it more just what comes naturally?
Fallon: I think the best formula is just kind of going in and seeing what comes out, almost like automatic writing, you can call it automatic riffing. You get into a room and just play what comes out of your hands and trust your heart and your gut and not try to over-think it too much because that's usually when self-editing happens and recalculation occurs and I don't think that's ever good music.

Queens of the Stone Age to Release New Album in June
It appears that Queens of the Stone Age fans won’t have to wait too much longer to get their hands on the band's sixth studio album. The band has just updated its website to reveal that the follow-up to 2007′s Era Vulgaris will drop sometime in June.
In addition, if you click on the “Q” on the middle of the band’s homepage, you’ll hear what may be a snippet of a track from the album. Several snippets are available on the site, however, you’ll need to refresh your browser to hear each one.
As previously reported, the group’s forthcoming release will feature guest appearances by Foo Fighters frontman/former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails, Scissor Sisters vocalist Jake Shears, former Screaming Trees frontmanMark Lanegan and former QOTSA bassist Nick Oliveri, among others.
Drummer Barrett Martin Shares Details of New Band with Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready & Ex-GN’R Bassist McKagan
Ex-Screaming Trees/Mad Season drummer Barrett Martin recently revealed that he’s part of a new band which includes Pearl Jam/Mad Season guitarist Mike McCready and former Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan. Martin says collaborating with McCready on a few tracks for the 2012 self-titled debut album of his side project with McKagan,Walking Papers, got their creative juices flowing.
“Mike and I realized how much we loved playing together again and so…we wrote a bunch of new songs and we’ve been sending them around to singers that we love,” he tells ABC News Radio. “So far we’ve done a couple songs with Jaz Coleman from Killing Joke. We did a couple new songs with [Walking Papers frontman] Jeff Angell and there are other singers that are working on songs right now, but I probably shouldn’t say who they are because it’s not finished yet.”
He adds that the guys have yet to come up with an official name for the new project. “We’ve just been calling it The Triple M for, you know, McCready, McKagan and Martin…but it’s all in the works right now. I would definitely say that the spirit of Mad Season has got us all playing together again.”
While a release date for the group’s new music has yet to be revealed, the drummer expects that the tracks won’t be released as a full album. “These songs are going to be coming out on Mike’s new independent label, which is distributed by Pearl Jam’s label,” he explains. “I think the plan is that we’re going to release ten-inch [vinyl] singles of just two songs with each of these different singers.”

Scott Weiland Says Stone Temple Pilots Needs to Get “Re-Inspired Artistically”
While Scott Weiland is still upset about his recent dismissal as the lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots, he says he would like to tour with them again, provided that they breathe some new life into the band with a new album.
“My philosophy is that I don’t feel like going on the road and playing a greatest hits set that we’ve been playing for five years,” he tells Cleveland Scene magazine. “If we’re going to do something, we need to get back in the studio with [producer] Brendan O’Brien, who has a track record with us, and get re-inspired artistically again.”
The singer adds that he doesn’t want STP to turn into a nostalgia act. “We need to [make a new album] and get out there on the road and get out there with some excitement and not just turn our legacy into what Journey or Foreigner is,” he explains. “That’s not what we’re about. That’s not at all what I’m about.”
Weiland is currently out on a North American tour performing STP’s first two albums, 1992’s Core and 1994’s Purple, with his new solo band, The Wildabouts.
Former PANTERA Bassist On Writing His Memoir: 'I Gave Everyone The F**king Truth'
Adam Lawton of MediaMikes.com recently conducted an interview with former PANTERA and current KILL DEVIL HILL bassist Rex Brown. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
MediaMikes.com: What made now the right time to release this book?
Rex Brown: A friend of mine who runs Bass Player magazine in the U.K. mentioned that he was friends with a guy who writes books and that I should get in to it. At the time it was something I was not interested in at all. I figured I wasn't dead yet, so why write a book now? After thinking about it for awhile, I figured it really did make sense to put this out now and then move on down the line. The thing that happened to Dime [latePANTERA guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott] really fucked me up. I mean, he was murdered. This was my best friend who was the best man at my wedding. I lived out of a brown bottle for a long time and doing crazy shit not knowing at the very that that's not the way to go. I got in touch with my author and started talking about how we wanted to do this thing. I read all of the rock and roll books that come out, as it's my passion. That's what I want to be doing. One thing just led to another and he started writing things down and then submitting them to me. He really had to develop my slang when he put it to print, as I don't line up in ques. I wanted to tell my side of the story, my experiences, and my truths of what went on and it is all true. My author also brought me the idea of have friends and family write various passages to help fill in some gaps. I have short term memory but my memory of the past is pretty fucking vivid. There's collaboration and corroborating. It's all true and that's what I wanted the book to be about. My author really wanted me to dig and that's what I did.
MediaMikes.com: What was it difficult looking back on some of these stories and hearing perspectives from other people involved?
Rex Brown: When I first read them, yes. When I got to know a little more about what they were trying to say, no. So it's a yes-and-no-type answer. My sister is in this book a lot, so I called her the other day to tell her that when this thing comes out, it's not a cookbook or a kid's book. I told her she probably wouldn't want to put this out to all her friends. She is 17 years older than me and didn't lead the hippy lifestyle like I have. The book is different than most books, but it's real. As real as it is, it's the truth. That was something I had to explain to my 13-year-old twins. I told them they may get a little flack over this, but not to worry about it, because everything is going to be all right. This is just dad's previous life. What I did then is definitely not what I am doing now. I have come full circle and we all grow and mature.
MediaMikes.com: Being that the book is so truthful, are you worried in any way about the backlash it may receive from fans or those mentioned in the book?
Rex Brown: I don't give a fuck! Go write your own fucking book. This is my truth and my experience. This is the best way I knew how to tell things. I wanted to come honest and clean. I am tight with both Philip[Anselmo, former PANTERA singer] and Rita [Haney, Dimebag's longtime girlfriend], but I don't talk to Vinnie [Paul Abbott, formerPANTERA drummer and Dimebag's brother]. You have to read this book as a whole not just take a chapter here or there. You have to go from the very beginning to the very end. The ending tells its own story and there are some really fun parts to this book. I am proud of this book and I wouldn't have put it out if I wasn't. Of course, somewhere in my mind there is maybe 10% of me that is concerned about some dickhead behind a computer that's going to blast on me. I am certainly not worried about it, though. I was put in the middle of so many situations during the band's career and I never said a word to the press about it. I just did what I had to do to keep things going. It's now time for me to tell me story. There is always the good, the bad and the ugly, and this book is not about ribbing one person more than another. It's about making a band work and making it go through what we went through. That's why the book is called"Official Truth". I could have given you some bullshit book, but I didn't. I gave everyone the fucking truth.

DAVE GROHL Considered Playing NIRVANA Songs With P.J. HARVEY Singing
Although Dave Grohl says he's been reluctant to play any music from NIRVANA live in the past, performing recently at SOUND CITY PLAYERSgigs with former NIRVANA members Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear has made it more of a possibility. According to The Pulse Of Radio, Grohlrevealed to NME that the three of them had discussed doing it — and asking British alternative diva P.J. Harvey to sing. Grohl explained, "Every once in a while we talk about it. For the SOUND CITY gig here in London (last month), we were thinking about musicians that we could invite because Stevie Nicks and John Fogerty couldn't make it. Someone came up with the idea of doing a NIRVANA song with P.J. Harvey."
Grohl added, "Kurt (Cobain) loved her and we love her and we thought, 'Yeah, what would we do?' I said, 'God, what if we were to do 'Milk It'from 'In Utero' with Polly (P.J. Harvey) singing?' We all looked at each other like, 'Whoa, that would be amazing,' and then she couldn't do it."
Grohl reiterated his reluctance to play NIRVANA material, saying, "The thing is, it's sacred ground. If we were ever to do something like that it would have be right because you want to pay tribute. There's a reasonFOO FIGHTERS don't do NIRVANA songs, and it's a good reason."
The SOUND CITY PLAYERS, a collection of musicians that Grohlinterviewed for his documentary "Sound City", played what might have been their last show at the South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas last week.
The Pulse Of Radio asked Grohl about the possibility of taking thePLAYERS on the road. "You know, so many people have said like, 'Oh, you've got to go on tour' and 'You've got to do more shows' and I swear to God, I would give my left arm to do it," he said. "Logistically, you could imagine, it's like taking 'Hollywood Squares' on the road. It's nuts."
"Sound City: Real To Reel", the soundtrack album companion to the movie, debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard album chart on Wednesday (March 20), selling 37,000 copies in its first week of release. The set includes new songs featuring Grohl, Paul McCartney, Trent Reznor,Corey Taylor, Stevie Nicks and others.
SCOTT WEILAND Doesn't Feel Like Playing 'Greatest Hits' Set With STONE TEMPLE PILOTS
In a brand new interview with Cleveland, Ohio's Scene magazine, singer Scott Weiland maintains that he is still a member of STONE TEMPLE PILOTS and can't legally be fired from the group, despite his bandmates' claim to the contrary. "I think it was a reaction to the fact that [my current solo] tour had sold out within a week," he says with regard to the rest of STONE TEMPLE PILOTS' statement that Weiland was "terminated" from the band. "It was probably not the smartest thing for them to do since I founded the band and there are certain legal terms within the contract which don't make sense as to that decision, or that threat."
Weiland and his solo band THE WILDABOUTS recently kicked off the 20-city trek, dubbed the "Purple At The Core Tour", where they are performing songs from the first two STONE TEMPLE PILOTS albums, 1992's "Core" and 1994's "Purple".
The singer, who is currently working on a new solo album, tells Scene that the last few tours with STP haven't been particularly inspiring.
"My philosophy is that I don't feel like going on the road and playing a greatest-hits set that we've been playing for five years," he says. "We've been doing that and in the midst of doing that, we made an album that took us a year and a half. That's not the way STP makes records. We make records in two weeks. If we're going to do something, we need to get back in the studio with [producer] Brendan O'Brien who has a track record with us and get re-inspired artistically again. We need to do it that way and get out there on the road and get out there with some excitement and not just turn our legacy into what JOURNEY orFOREIGNER is. That's not what we're about. That's not why we got into this. That's not at all what I'm about."
He continues: "More than anything, we've been a great live band. The reason why critics didn't like us because they thought we were one thing that we weren't. They thought we sounded like a Seattle band. We proved those critics wrong over our career and changed from album to album. We didn't sound like THE BEATLES, but we took that blueprint and the idea of being a band. Sure, there are some bands that have one sound and do it really well. But we looked at the idea of THE BEATLES and thought to really do it right, we had to evolve. We had to go into a cocoon every once in a while and come out as a butterfly and not an ugly moth."
ROB ZOMBIE Guitarist JOHN 5 Talks 'Rock Against MS' Benefit Concert, 'Rockstar Energy Mayhem'
Argentinean rock journalist Lucas H. Gordon, who currently resides in Hollywood, California, conducted an interview with guitarist John 5 (ROB ZOMBIE, MARILYN MANSON) this past Monday (March 18) following a press conference at the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, California to announce the sixth-year lineup for Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. You can watch the chat below.
John 5's latest full-length solo CD/DVD, "God Told Me To", was released on May 8, 2012 via Rocket Science Ventures. The effort was recorded and produced by John 5, Chris Baseford (ROB ZOMBIE, TOMMY LEE) and Bob Marlette (SEBASTIAN BACH, BLACK SABBATH) in 2011. The cover art for the album was illustrated by none other than Rob Zombie, who also tapped John 5 to score the entirety of his upcoming film, "The Lords Of Salem".
ROB ZOMBIE's new album, "Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor", will be released on April 23 on Zodiac Swan/T-Boy/Ume. The CD was produced by Bob Marlette, who has previously worked with everyone from BLACK SABBATH and ALICE COOPER to WILSON PHILLIPS and LYNYRD SKYNYRD.
SYSTEM OF A DOWN Drummer: 'We Are Going To Make A New Album At A Certain Point'
During a brand new interview with the Los Angeles radio station KROQ,SYSTEM OF A DOWN's John Dolmayan (drums) and Shavo Odadjian(bass) were asked about the possibility of the band releasing a new studio album in the not-too-distant future.
"We are going to make a new album at a certain point, it's just a matter of when the four of us decide it's the right time to make it," said Dolmayan. "We don't want anyone to go in there and do it because the rest of us want to do it. We all want to do it because it's the right thing to do for everybody. I wouldn't want to go in and make an album that doesn't represent the best that we have to offer. If you force someone in the studio ahead of when they're ready for it, then you're probably going to make something mediocre."
SYSTEM OF A DOWN last released new music in 2005 on the"Mezmerize" and "Hypnotize" albums, going on hiatus the following year.
The band reunited in 2011 for touring purposes and will spend the summer on a European festival circuit, while performing only one North American show in 2013 at California's famed Hollywood Bowl.
SYSTEM OF A DOWN singer Serj Tankian told Loudwire that the band's recent tours have been a "blast," adding, "I think we've played better because of it. There was new excitement in playing together and all of the shows have been really great. Everyone's told us that we sound better than we did in 2006 when we left off, so I think it's great."

ALICE IN CHAINS: 'The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here' Cover Artwork, Release Date Revealed
ALICE IN CHAINS has set a May 14 release date for its new album, which is officially titled "The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here". The group's fifth studio effort is its second with William DuVall on vocals and follows up 2009's"Black Gives Way To Blue", the group's first all-new collection of material in 14 years and first since the 2002 death of original singer Layne Staley.
Songtiltes set to appear on the CD:
* Voices
* Low Ceiling
* Stone
* The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here
* Hollow
* Lab Monkey
* Hung On A Hook
* Pretty Done
* Breath On A Window
* Choke
* Phantom Limb
The album's cover artwork can be seen below.
"We made a unique record that's completely different from anything we ever did," ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell tells RollingStone.com. "It encapsulates a period of time, like all records do. You see growth and that the band is moving ahead in new territory that we haven't been to before, but we haven't lost our identity."
He added: "There's some real filth in there. That's intentional, and that's also just how we sound together. We're trying to make a record that we dig and we're trying to keep the bar high for ourselves and see if we can get past it, and I think that we did again. And of course you want people to dig it too and to respond to it, and to have that start happening is satisfying."
ALICE IN CHAINS released a first single called "Hollow" earlier this year from the new disc, along with an accompanying video.
"The initial response to 'Hollow' has been fucking incredible, totally not what we intended, and that's fucking awesome," Cantrell tellsRollingStone.com. "We just put that song out there for the fans and then it ended up turning into a number one single, a six-minute sludgy metal tune. That's always fun, to see something like that happen."
ALICE IN CHAINS began working on new material in 2011, but the sessions for the album were delayed when Cantrell had to undergo shoulder surgery.
The band has announced a spring trek that starts on April 25 in Miami Beach and will include headlining slots at the Rocklahoma, Carolina Rebellion, Welcome To Rockville and Rock On The Range festivals.

Dave Grohl Wanted PJ Harvey to Sing Nirvana Tracks with Sound City Players
Dave Grohl isn’t a big fan of covering Nirvana during his Sound City Players shows, but he says that he did try to arrange for English singer/songwriter PJ Harvey to sing a few Nirvana cuts at the band’s recent concert in London.
"Someone came up with the idea of doing a Nirvana song with PJ Harvey,” he tells NME. “[Late Nirvana frontman] Kurt [Cobain] loved her and we love her and...I said: 'God, what if we were to do 'Milk It' from 'In Utero' with Polly singing?' We all looked at each other like, 'Woah, that would be amazing…' and then she couldn't do it!"
Grohl adds that he deems his work with Nirvana as “sacred ground” and that fans who attend upcoming shows with Sound City Players or Foo Fighters shouldn’t expect to hear any covers of Nirvana tracks. “If we were ever to do something like that it would have to be right because you want to pay tribute,” he explains. “There's a reason Foo Fighters don't do Nirvana songs, and it's a good reason."

TOOL Places Hidden Certificates In 'Opiate' Packages
Five lucky fans will get something extra in their copies of TOOL's forthcoming commemorative edition of the "Opiate" EP.
Dubbed the "Seal of Xatanitos," the five certificates will be placed randomly amidst the 5,000 copies of the collectible reissue. The prize will only be disclosed to each of the five winners.
The 21st-anniversary edition is limited to 5,000 copies and features art direction by guitarist Adam Jones, illustrations by legendary artist Adi Granov and design packaging by Mackie Osborne, who has collaborated with TOOL on many albums, including "10,000 Days", "Lateralus" and"Salival" as well as posters and merchandise.
The 5,000 copies will be broken down into five variations (each 1,000 pieces) with each set featuring a slight alteration of the exterior graphics and included bonus items which include a new stereoscopic image for fans to use with their glasses from the "10,000 Days" packaging.
The packages will only be available via TOOL's web site on March 26, with the band setting aside a small number of packages (200 of each variation) for Toolarmy members. Toolarmy members will be able to purchase on March 22 via Toolarmy.com.
Jones recently spoke to Revolver about the deluxe reissue of "Opiate", telling the magazine, "What I want is to go to the store and buy something and go, 'Damn, I got more than my money's worth.' I want something where you can tell a lot of time went into it."
Jones has always been deeply involved in TOOL's artwork and visuals, telling The Pulse Of Radio a while back that his interest started long before the band. "I've always been into art and drawing and sculpting, and I did makeup effects for a long time, and it's always been a big part of my life," he said. "And Maynard too, and, you know, the other band members — you know, when I met those guys, they were all doing something kind of creative, and I think that's why it clicks."
As for revisiting the music on "Opiate", Jones said, "It's kind of like a time machine. It takes you back to that time and what you were thinking. Creatively speaking, there's always room for improvement . . . but overall I like it. It's something I'm very proud of."
Staind’s Mike Mushok Joins Former Metallica Bassist Jason Newsted’s New Band
Mike Mushok is keeping busy while Staind is on hiatus. The guitarist has just announced that he’s joined Newsted, a new band fronted by former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted.
“Staind is taking a break for a while, so when Jason asked if I was interested in joining them to record an album and play on the upcoming tour, it was perfect timing,” said Mushok in a statement. “All I could say was, Hell yeah! I’m totally down for this.”
We’ll get our first chance to hear Mushok shred with Newsted when the band drops their first full-length album, which is expected to be released early this summer.

Scott Weiland on STP Firing: “Every Band Has Issues”
Scott Weiland still isn’t happy about being fired from Stone Temple Pilots. The singer says while he still respects his former band mates, he feels that they made a hasty decision.
“They’ve done it before, and they can do it again,” he tells Vindy.com. “Every band has issues. I just think sometimes people say things before they really think about it.”
Weiland feels that his current tour with his new solo band, The Wildabouts, was one of the main reasons he was dismissed as the group’s lead singer. “I think that the fact this [solo] tour was doing so well was a reactionary thing on their part,” he reveals. “But it actually isn’t quite so simple.”
While STP's future is uncertain, Weiland adds that he is “over halfway finished” making a new solo album with The Wildabouts.
Muse Reveals Winner of "Animals" Video Contest
Muse has announced the winner of a contest launched in December of 2012 asking filmmakers to create a video for "Animals," a cut from the band’s latest album, The 2nd Law. The band has revealed that Inês Freitas and Miguel Mendes, two filmmakers from Portugal, have created the winning video.
The four-minute animated clip tells the story a group of shadowy figures in red ties that wind up feeding pieces of people into a grinder in order to make money to pay off a very large debt. In the end, the dark figures end up feeding pieces of each other into the grinder.
Freitas and Mendes will receive a grand prize of 3,000 British pounds -- which translates to a little over $4,500 in U.S. currency -- as well as tickets to one of Muse's stadium shows this summer, where their video will be aired. You can watch videos from the top five finalists at Genero.tv.

Guitarist Rob Caggiano on Leaving Anthrax: “My Heart Wasn't into It Anymore”
Guitarist Rob Caggiano says that his recent departure from Anthrax was driven by his need for more creative freedom.
“My heart wasn't into it anymore,” he tells Noisecreep. “I think the main reason is that Anthrax was never a creative outlet and it just got to a point where I realized there was no emotional attachment to the music for me at all. At the end of the day, I think they really understand why I left.”
Caggiano, who is now a member of Volbeat, adds that he found exactly what he was looking for when he began working with the band to produce their upcoming album,Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies. “The vibe and chemistry was just killer and I was being creative again which is something I haven't been able to do in a long time,” he explains. “It definitely didn't take me long to realize this was the perfect situation for me.” Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies will arrive at all the usual outlets on April 9.
Former PANTERA Bassist Is 'Very Open' To Rekindling His Friendship With VINNIE PAUL
Artisan News last week conducted an interview with former PANTERAand current KILL DEVIL HILL bassist Rex Brown. You can now two more clips from the chat below.
Brown's memoir, "Official Truth, 101 Proof: The Inside Story Of Pantera", was released on March 12 via Da Capo Press. The 320-page book is described as a "starkly honest and revealing" book about Rex's time in one of the most influential and enduringly popular bands in heavy metal history, offering Brown's shocking personal insight into a band that had swapped the grimy clubs of Texas for arenas around the world but whose story would ultimately be touched by tragedy.
A one-and-a-half-minute video trailer for "Official Truth, 101 Proof: The Inside Story Of Pantera" can be seen below.
In a 2012 interview with SkullsNBones.com, Brown stated about his memoir: "It's basically my tale of the PANTERA years from my point of view. I was always the silent guy in the band. I never did interviews, so I was approached with this idea and I was down for it. I didn't realize how much work would be involved. [laughs] But it's going to be cool, man. It's just my inside story of what was going on. It leads up to the breakup,Dime's [former PANTERA guitarist 'Dimebag' Darrell Abbott] death, and to now. There is only four people in that band that knew what was going on, so this will just be my interpretation oo those years. I'll say this, it probably won't be my last book either. It's a lot of work, though. We went through a thousand photos, stories, memories — everything, dude — so it's an insightful view that most fans would never know of if it weren't for the book. I think it's got a lot of things that people don't know and should know, and I hope the people enjoy it. It's a good read, for sure."
World rights for "Official Truth, 101 Proof: The Inside Story Of Pantera"were acquired by executive editor Ben Schafer at Da Capo Press fromMatthew Elblonk at DeFiore & Company with Matthew Hamilton atAitken Alexander.
"Official Truth, 101 Proof: The Inside Story Of Pantera" co-authorMark Eglinton is an author, journalist and film-producer currently based in Edinburgh, Scotland. His first book entitled "James Hetfield: The Wolf At Metallica's Door" was published in April 2010 to considerable critical acclaim, fueled by regular radio appearances across the U.S and Europe to promote it. He also writes regularly for Outburn magazine and various music web sites and has co-produced a series of rock interview documentaries entitled "The Greatest Music Ever Created, And How It Ruined Our Lives", which is co-hosted in conjunction with Metal Hammer magazine. Eglinton's role in Brown's life has become one of friend and confidant, mostly during time spent on the road with DOWN in Europe.

Trent Reznor Posts Rare Nine Inch Nails Tour Documentary & Music Videos Online
Frontman Trent Reznor is offering fans the chance to watch a rare Nine Inch Nails tour documentary from the 1990s. The 74-minute film, which was originally available only on the 1997 Closure VHS, is now available at NIN's Tumblr page.
The flick, which is definitely not safe for viewing at work, features performances and behind-the-scenes footage from NIN’s Self Destruct Tour, which took place between 1994-1996. It also includes some high profile cameos from Marilyn Manson and David Bowie.
Reznor also posted a few more rare gems on the band's Tumblr page: acoustic performances of "The Becoming," "Something I Can Never Have" and "Gone, Still" featuring former NIN members Danny Lohner and Jerome Dillon. Those stripped-down tracks were originally featured on Still, NIN’s companion album to 2002's And All That Could Have Been.
Last month, Reznor announced that NIN would hit the road with a new lineup that includes former Jane’s Addiction bassist Eric Avery, King Crimson multi-instrumentalist Adrian Belew, Alessandro Cortini, Telefon Tel Aviv’s Josh Eustis and Ilan Rubin. So far, the band is set to appear at a number of festivals overseas, including Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival, South Korea’s Ansan Valley Festival and Germany’s Rock’n’Heim Festival.
While NIN is expected to announce more tour dates soon, Billboard quotes sources saying that the band will be performing at this year’s Lollapalooza festival, which takes place August 2-4 in Chicago, IL.

Ex-KORN Guitarist BRIAN 'HEAD' WELCH: Pornography 'Sucks You In Like A Drug'
On the latest episode of IchthusTV, former KORN guitarist and current LOVE AND DEATH frontman Brian "Head" Welch talks about his former struggle with pornography and how it is a drug that sucks you in and gives you a false interpretation of what sex really is. Check it out below.
Welch exited KORN in February 2005 after announcing that he had been saved by Jesus Christ and was devoting his life and music to Christianity. He subsequently issued two books, a solo album and the debut LOVE AND DEATH CD.
Welch told Launch in 2007 that he was in especially bad shape the last two years before he left KORN. "2003 is when I started using speed every day," he said. "Meth. I got hooked on meth and in order to get up and function, even play the show, I had to snort lines, you know. And I told myself, 'I'll do this tour, I'll do this Ozzfest, and I'll do meth the whole time and I'll go home and check into a rehab.'And it scared me, you know, 'cause I was like coming — every month I would tell myself, 'I'm gonna stop this tour,'and I wouldn't be able to do it. Like a fear would come over me. I was just trapped."

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH: Audio Snippet Of New Song 'Here To Die'
An audio snippet of a new FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH song, "Here To Die", taken from the band's forthcoming fourth album, can be streamed in the YouTube clip below.
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH's new CD was recorded at Las Vegas' The Hideout Recording Studio and is due this summer. Helming the sessions once again is The Hideout's owner, Kevin Churko, the Canadian musician, sound engineer, songwriter and record producer, who has also previously worked with OZZY OSBOURNE and IN THIS MOMENT, among other acts.
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH is scheduled to make a number of festival appearances this summer, including the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival in the U.S.
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH's third album, "American Capitalist", was certified gold last year for sales of 500,000 copies. Not only is it the band's third album, but it is the third consecutive release from the group to reach the gold mark, with previous efforts "The Way Of The Fist" and"War Is The Answer" also selling more than half a million copies each."American Capitalist" debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard album chart when it came out in October 2011.
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH's most recent tour was last summer'sTrespass America trek, also featuring KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, POP EVIL and others.
CLUTCH Drummer: 'We Realized There Was A Lack Of Straight-Up Rock And Roll Records Coming Out'
Matt Hinch of Hellbound.ca recently conducted an interview with drummerJean-Paul Gaster of Maryland rockers CLUTCH. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
Hellbound.ca: It's been said that "Earth Rocker" is your fastest and heaviest album to date. What was the impetus to move in that direction a little bit?
Gaster: There's definitely a few things. One of those things was going on tour with MOTÖRHEAD. Watching those guys play every night was very inspiring on a number of levels. I think we toured with THIN LIZZY not too long after that and it was on that tour that we realized there was really a lack of just straight-up rock and roll records coming out these days. So I think we wanted to make something that was, front to back, a very focused kind of a recording. A very efficient kind of recording. One that had good energy from the very beginning to the end.
Hellbound.ca: Going into the studio with that mindset, was your preparation any different?
Gaster: I think we were more selective of the kinds of parts that we wanted to have in the songs. I think we were more selective of how the tempos were. We were definitely a lot more focused on this record in the writing process. We actually talked about the kind of record we wanted to make. And that hadn't really happened before. Generally, we just get together and just jam and our favourite things are the ones that end up being on the record. This time, I think we wrote the same way but I think we really edited ourselves more and I think we had a real vision of what kind of record we wanted to make much sooner than we had with other albums.
Hellbound.ca: For a long time you bounced around on labels almost every album. Was that part of the reason behind starting Weathermaker Music?
Gaster: Yes. Over the years, the labels have always been a source of great frustration for us. And that holds true for when we were on little tiny independent labels all the way through to when we were on the major labels. That struggle was always the same and it was basically that the label was never satisfied with the amount of records that we sold.
Hellbound.ca: They couldn't grasp the intangibles.
Gaster: Correct! I think they would see the band touring and we had a very solid touring fanbase and we would sell a consistent amount of records album to album. And I think the label saw that and they'd get excited about that and they thought to themselves, "Well, surely this band can sell this many tickets and can sell 100,000 records. With any kind of help at all we can make this a gold band or even a platinum band." It didn't take them long to realize that it's tough work to sell real music. Radio stations are skeptical about playing new things. I think that had a lot to do with our battles with the labels, because back then, it was just all about getting your song on the radio. If you could do that, the sky was the limit. So it's really nice not to have to deal with that part of the business. We still talk about business and spend time on that part of what we do, but it's a lot more fun. It's easier and not nearly as stressful. And none of the fights that we used to have. It allows us to think about music and not about what some guy at the label is gonna say.

Rob Zombie told The Pulse Of Radio why he's looking forward to playingMayhem again two years after he last appeared on the bill. "Well, I think it's gonna be amazing," he said. "I mean, I like doing things like that 'cause playing shows, I mean a lot of people are like, 'Oh, I like intimate shows, that's fun.' But I don't like intimate shows. The bigger the better. So doingMayhem Festival's perfect because, you know, it'll be the biggest hard rock tour of the summer for sure, and headlining it is perfect because we have a huge show and we can do everything and there's no limitations and the people that put the concert on are great, so it's just a great setup."

Rob Zombie will have both a new album, "Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor", and a new movie, "The Lords Of Salem", out next month.
METALLICA's LARS ULRICH: 'We Never Want To Turn Into A Nostalgia Band'
With METALLICA frontman James Hetfield recently telling an Australian rock station that "gigs keep popping up" which delay work on the group's next album, The Pulse Of Radio asked drummer Lars Ulrich for his take on the band's more leisurely approach to recording. "There'll be a new record and we certainly never want to turn into a nostalgia band, but at the same time, you've got to keep yourself, I guess, creatively alive and that's what we do by playing these gigs and doing all these other projects and doing movies and festivals," he said. "I mean, it's just, all that stuff's a lot of fun, but it takes a lot of time, you know."
While METALLICA was Down Under performing at the Soundwavefestival, Hetfield told radio station Triple M, "We're trying to write (new material), but gigs keep popping up that are too exciting to stay home for. We have lots of material (we've been) working on from the day [2008 album] 'Death Magnetic' ended all the way up until now."
Asked what the new material sounds like, Hetfield told Triple M, "I don't know where it's going yet but we've got lots of different sounds, different styles."
METALLICA will headline its second annual Orion Music + More festival this June in Detroit, and plans to release a theatrical 3D movie called"Metallica Through The Never" on August 9.

RHCP Drummer Chad Smith: “Music Saved Me from Going Down a Wrong Path”
Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith is currently in Washington D.C. with members of the National Association of Music Merchants in order to lobby Congress about the importance of funding comprehensive music education in the nation’s schools. Smith says he knew he needed to lend his voice to the cause because of the impact music education had on his life.
“Music saved me from going down a wrong path,” he tells ABC News Radio. “You’re going to school and they would have band classes after school instead of…getting in trouble. I mean, it’s just gonna keep kids off the street.”
The drummer adds that he’s shocked by the steady decline of music programs in public schools. “The arts and music [programs], it’s the first thing that goes now in schools,” says Smith. “They’ll buy new shoulder pads for the football team, but they won’t have a music program. It’s incredible to me.”
He notes that his ultimate goal is for kids to get the same opportunities that he did in school so they can achieve a career in music. “We need to have these things, and not just in private schools or taking private lessons," he explains. "We need them to be available to the kid that goes to the public school to have our next generations of great artists and great musicians.”
Smith will be speaking to NAMM delegates and guests at a dinner at the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday, and will be in meetings on Capitol Hill with members of Congress on Wednesday.

DAVID DRAIMAN Says 'Vilify' Is 'The Perfect Song To Bridge People From DISTURBED Into DEVICE'
Trystan MacDonald of Lithium Magazine recently conducted an interview with DISTURBED/DEVICE frontman David Draiman. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
On how supportive DISTURBED fans have been in helping him launchDEVICE:
"I think I've always been able to count on the fans for support… I've never questioned that for a minute. Truth be told, if the proof wasn't in the pudding, it wouldn't happen. To a certain extent, I have their trust, and I cherish that, but eventually the music is going to have to live up to the hype."
On DEVICE's first single, "Vilify", which was released to the public on February 19:
"It's one of the biggest songs on the record [and] it has a stylistic bridge, if you will. I figure 'Vilify' is the perfect song to bridge people from DISTURBED into DEVICE. There is the familiarity of my melodic vocal delivery and there is the electronic element which is much more prevalent in DEVICE."
On how much creative control he had over the "Vilify" video:
"I stay away from that completely. Pretty much, ever since the 'Prayer'video, I never really get too involved in that too much. I got burnt pretty hard when MTV decided to ban the video I co-directed. Ever since then, I think, 'That way it's not my fault, it's somebody else's fault. I didn't write it!' [laughs] I'm still involved as an artist, but I'm not the guy who comes up with the ideas anymore. For DEVICE, in the future I may do it, but forDISTURBED, I don't want to do it."

ROB ZOMBIE Says 'Venomous Rat' CD 'Was Conceived As A Concept Album'
"Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor", the eagerly awaited new album from ROB ZOMBIE, will be released on April 23 on Zodiac Swan/T-Boy/Ume. The CD was produced by Bob Marlette, who has previously worked with everyone from BLACK SABBATH and ALICE COOPER toWILSON PHILLIPS and LYNYRD SKYNYRD.
Asked what the story is behing the album's title, Rob told Revolvermagazine: "There's no real story behind it. I just thought of it one day. With every album I've ever made, we'll get it basically one hundred percent done and everyone will go, 'OK, what's the title?' And I'm like, 'I don't know what the fuckin' title is yet. It hasn't hit me.' And then one day I'll just blurt out, 'La Sexorcisto: Devil Music, Vol. 1!' or 'Hellbilly Deluxe!' It's the same with this one. I have it written down somewhere, but I don't remember doing it."
He added: "Truthfully, the whole record was conceived as a concept album. But I'm not really selling it that way. I was getting obsessed watching things like 'Tommy', 'The Wall', 'Quadrophenia', where you have a movie to go with the album and it's a whole big concept. So I thought I'd write this album with that in mind: That maybe one day — it could be a year, it could be 10 years — I could turn the concept of this record into a movie. That being said, nothing about the concept of the record will make any sense to anyone until it's a movie. The band doesn't even know the storyline. No one does, except me. But I won't discuss it because it'll all make sense someday. Or it won't. [laughs] lt doesn't matter. The songs work fine even if you don't know the concept."
Regarding his decision to include a a heavy-duty cover of GRAND FUNK RAILROAD's "We're An American Band" on "Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor", Rob said: "I've never recorded a cover song as a solo artist, and I only recorded a few with WHITE ZOMBIE [KISS' 'God Of Thunder', BLACK SABBATH's 'Children Of The Grave' and KC AND THE SUNSHINE BAND's 'I'm Your Boogie Man']. But you always wanna add new songs into your live show, so [Zombie's guitarist] John 5 and I would always sit in the back of the bus listening to stuff we could cover, but it was always like, 'Nah, that one's not right.' Cover songs are tricky. You gotta find just the right one. 'We're An American Band' hit us because it just felt so much like our life. We're a quintessential American band — everything that's right or wrong in Americana in one band. It wasn't like we were trying to say anything deep or meaningful. [laughs] It was just like, 'Yeah, we're in a rock band. Fuck you — it's awesome.'"
"Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor" track listing:
01. Teenage Nosferatu Pussy
02. Dead City Radio And The New Gods Of Supertown
03. Revelation Revolution
04. Theme For The Rat Vendor
05. Gong Gang Gong De Do Gong De Laga Raga
06. Rock And Roll (In A Black Hole)
07. Behold! The Pretty Filthy Creatures
08. White Trash Freaks
09. We're An American Band (GRAND FUNK RAILROAD cover)
10. Lucifer Rising
11. The Girl Who Loved The Monsters
12. Trade In Your Guns For A Coffin
Zombie told The Pulse Of Radio what goals he set for himself in making the new album. "I wanted someone to hear it and go, 'Wow, I haven't heard that before,'" he said. "I wanted it to be just different. We really went out of our way with the sounds, so every song has a very different sound, a very different guitar sound, drum sound, just everything, where the sound, the actual sound becomes very important. You know, after all these years you want to still try to feel that you can break through new, creative areas in your own mind, and that's really what we're just trying to do, you know."
STONE SOUR: 'House Of Gold & Bones - Part 2' Track-By-Track Breakdown From COREY TAYLOR
A track-by-track breakdown of "House Of Gold & Bones - Part 2", the second part of STONE SOUR's two-album series, "House of Gold & Bones", by the band's lead singer, Corey Taylor can be seen below (courtesy of Australia's Music Feeds).
"House Of Gold & Bones - Part 2" will be released on April 9 viaRoadrunner Records. The albums were recorded at Sound Farm Studiosjust outside of the band's native Des Moines, Iowa with producer David Bottrill (TOOL, MUSE) at the helm.
"House Of Gold & Bones - Part 2" track listing:
01. Red City
02. Black John
03. Sadist
04. Peckinpah
05. Stalemate
06. Gravesend
07. '82
08. The Uncanny Valley
09. Blue Smoke
10. Do Me A Favor
BUCKCHERRY Frontman: 'We Wanna Write Songs That Are Unforgettable'
Niclas Müller-Hansen of Sweden's Metalshrine recently conducted an interview with vocalist Josh Todd of Californian rockers BUCKCHERRY. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
Metalshrine: What made you write about the seven deadly sins?
Josh Todd: Because it's timeless, and I've struggled with moderation my whole life, along with other things. I think everybody has things, and I think everybody struggles with addiction at some point in their lives and they have to moderate. It's difficult, because if something feels good, you just wanna keep doing it.
Metalshrine: Being in the business that you are, it must be much more difficult doing things in moderation since you come across a lot of this all the time.
Josh Todd: Yeah, but when you're on the other side of it… I've been sober for 18 years and when you see people doing stuff, it's not attractive, you know. You see things from a different perspective and it's not very attractive, so it's not that hard.
Metalshrine: Looking back on the first album back in '99, how would you compare the band today to the band back then? Besides being older and wiser and so on.
Josh Todd: Well, it's been a different lineup, but this lineup is the one we always wanted. We've been together now for eight years and we've done over a thousand shows and we still get along really great. It was just a different band for those first two records.
Metalshrine: Being on the road and you spend a lot of time together, is it hard staying good friends or does it just come easy? You see each other all the time. Is there a lot of friction?
Josh Todd: Nah, there's no friction. I mean, you do get tired being around each other and that's just normal. The key is that when something bothers us, we just talk it out and that's what we do. We get right to the point when it happens. If you have problems and they itch for too long, they become bigger than they originally were when they started and that's when you start not getting along. We just address things when they come up and we have a good time.
Metalshrine: You've done a lot of videos. Is it still fun and is there a need for videos these days?
Josh Todd: Yeah, it's another marketing tool, but it's not like it used to be, of course. There's not a forum for it, but you can't control the market anymore because there's the worldwide web. There's no MTV and you don't have to wait for a record, you just get on the Internet and get it. They have access to their artist from their rooms. It's just a much different world than it used to be, so you just have to roll with that and deal with it accordingly. We always concentrate on making records.
Metalshrine: When you sit down to write songs for an album, is there ever the thought of writing a song that could make it onto radio or don't you think about that at all?
Josh Todd: Well, yeah, we wanna write songs that are unforgettable and I think a hit song is unforgettable and that's why it becomes a hit. Everybody likes it and it resonates with them and they remember it and wanna hear it again. When you hear a BUCKCHERRY record, we always have big hooks and that's something we're always into, so if it doesn't move us, it doesn't go on the record.
Metalshrine: You became a father when you were 23. Did that in any way stand in your way of doing what you were doing? Did you sacrifice family in any way?
Josh Todd: I sacrificed a lot. It motivated me, because at that time in my life, I was in a bad place. I had a massive alcohol and drug problem at the time. I had no money, so my first child, my daughter, was a turning point for me in getting my life together. I didn't want her to see me fucked up, like I experienced when I was a kid so that was a big motivating factor. All it did was make me get better as an artist. I always tell her that, that she was the turning point.

In a 2012 interview with SkullsNBones.com, Brown stated about his upcoming memoir: "It's basically my tale of the PANTERA years from my point of view. I was always the silent guy in the band. I never did interviews, so I was approached with this idea and I was down for it. I didn't realize how much work would be involved. [laughs] But it's going to be cool, man. It's just my inside story of what was going on. It leads up to the breakup, Dime's [former PANTERA guitarist 'Dimebag' Darrell Abbott] death, and to now.

Billie Joe Armstrong Writing Music for Yale Theatrical Show
Following the success of the Broadway musical American Idiot, Billie Joe Armstrong is writing music for another theatrical production.
The Green Day frontman is writing songs for a production of These Paper Bullets, a rock spin on Shakespeare's play Much Ado About Nothing, according to The New York Times. The production will premiere at Yale Repertory Theater at Yale University in Connecticut next March.
The story will revolve around a Liverpool band dealing with romance and the music industry in London. American Idiot, featuring music from Green Day's album of the same name, ran on Broadway in 2010 and 2011 and won a couple of Tony Awards. Armstrong himself occasionally performed in the musical.
Green Day will kick off their rescheduled North American tour later this month. It was postponed last year after Armstrong entered rehab for substance abuse treatment.
Dave Grohl Says Next Foo Fighters Album “Won’t Be a Conventional Record”
Dave Grohl has revealed that he has something special in mind for the Foo Fighters’ eighth studio album. "[I’ve got] a crazy idea of what I want to do with the next record and how we record it,” he tells Billboard. “It's not conventional. It won't be a conventional record.”
The singer adds that while the writing process has begun for the upcoming release, fans shouldn’t expect to get their hands on it anytime soon. "When we start working on a record, what I've found is we work best at our own pace, and sometimes it happens quickly and sometimes it takes awhile," he explains.
Dave Grohl Pays Tribute to Musical Heroes During SXSW Festival Keynote Speech
During Dave Grohl’s keynote speech at the South by Southwest festival on Thursday, which is currently streaming at RollingStone.com, the singer spoke at length about some of the artists that shaped his love of music. The Foo Fightersfrontman says that while a number of bands have inspired him over the years, it was one track in particular that put him on the path to devoting his life to music.
“I have to thank Edgar Winter for allowing K-tel Records to include his legendary instrumental 'Frankenstein' on their 1975 blockbuster compilation,” he told the crowd. “It was this record that changed my life.”
The singer also spoke with particular passion about his early heroes: The Misfits, Bad Brains, Dead Kennedys and Black Flag. He explains that it was their inspiration than pushed him to pursue a career in music. “It became my religion,” he notes. “The record store my church, the rock stars my saints, and their songs, my hymns.”
Among the other highlights of the speech was when Grohl explained how he rediscovered his love of music -- which led to the creation of the Foo Fighters -- following the death of his Nirvana band mate Kurt Cobain in 1994.
“When Kurt died, I was lost,” he reveals. “The music that I devoted my life to had now betrayed me. I put away my drums. But eventually, the same feeling that made me feel possessed and empowered and inspired and enraged and so in love with music that it had the power to incite a riot or start a revolution, I felt it again.”
In addition, Grohl shared some sage advice with aspiring songwriters, saying, "There is no right or wrong -- there is only your voice. Cherish it. Respect it. Nurture it. Challenge it. Stretch it and scream until it's f**king gone. And who knows how long it will last? It's there if you want it."
After completing his speaking engagement, Grohl joined forces with the Sound City Players, a band comprised of some of the artists who appear in his recently-releasedSound City documentary, for a special concert at Stubb’s in Austin, Texas.
30 Second to Mars Frontman Jared Leto Dropped “About 30 Pounds” for Movie Role
30 Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto looks good now, but he recently shed a large amount of weight to play a 1980s transsexual with AIDS for his first film in five years, The Dallas Buyers Club.
“It was a powerful experience,” he tells EOnline.com in a video interview. “I lost about 30 pounds…I got down to 116 or something. I just basically didn't eat." Leto says that he dropped the weight so he could feel “very fragile and delicate and unsafe,” which is what he felt the role demanded.
The singer adds that while he was filming the role, his friends and family weren’t thrilled to see him looking so unhealthy. "If you run into people or see family who don't know what you're doing, they think that you're sick," he explains.
In other 30 Seconds to Mars news, the band will premiere their new single, "Up in the Air," on Monday. The guys will play the track -- the first copy of which recently made the trip up to the International Space Station -- and do a live online interview with astronautTom Marshburn, who’s aboard the space station. Look for more information about the chat soon on the band’s website, ThirtySecondsToMars.com.
The digital release of “Up in the Air” is set for Tuesday.
Megadeth Finishes Recording Super Collider
Frontman Dave Mustaine has revealed that Megadeth has finished the recording process for their 14th studio album, Super Collider. The singer took to his Twitter account on Wednesday to give fans the good news and point out how the number 13 keeps popping up during the album’s production.
He tweeted, “More 13 weirdness…we finished the record on 31313. 13 of 14 songs used; song 13 left off. It was 13 years since we tracked [instrumental track] Silent Scorn [from 2001’s The World Needs a Hero].”
While Super Collider doesn’t yet have an official release date, it is expected to arrive in stores sometime in June. The album will be the first release on Mustaine’s new label, Tradecraft, through Universal Music Enterprises.
According to KCBD.com, a fan of Danish/American metal rock 'n' rollers VOLBEAT died in an accident during the band's concert in Lubbock, Texas this past Monday night (March 11).
After 39-year-old Jubal Colvin, 39, was denied entry to the show at the Lonestar Event Center, he allegedly jumped a fence and entered the premises. Security personnel attempted to remove him, but he fled on foot into a restricted area that was fenced off. He then fell approximately 20 feet from the hillside and struck his head on the concrete covered ground, according to police
First responders gave Colvin CPR on the scene, and he was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Wes Nessman of FMX, which promoted the concert, wrote on the Lubbock radio station's web site that Colvin "appeared to be drunk or had been drinking and was stopped at security for having a knife. At some point he got agitated and threw the knife at security and started running. He was told to stop several times by security and police. He ran past several fences and barricades before either running off the roof or attempting to jump roof to roof."
Nessman added: "This was on a side of the property that is NEVER used and hasn't been used in about six years. This man was running from officials in a clearly off limits area."
'Experiencing Nirvana: Grunge In Europe, 1989' Coming This Fall In Deluxe Hardcover
Bazillion Points Books has announced the October trade hardcover release of "Experiencing Nirvana: Grunge In Europe, 1989". This intimate photo journal and wild grunge rock micro-history was shot and written by Bruce Pavitt, co-founder of Sub Pop Records, the legendary Seattle label that signed NIRVANA in 1988. The book features over 200 picturesque and candid full-color photos shot by Pavitt over a tumultuous one-week period on tour from Rome to London with NIRVANA, TAD andMUDHONEY.
On November 27, 1989, Bruce Pavitt and his Sub Pop partner Jon Poneman arrived in Rome to meet NIRVANA, as the band was nearing the finish of a grueling six-week tour of Europe. While determined to promote their grungy, riff-heavy debut album, "Bleach", NIRVANA's travels with fellow Sub Pop act TAD had left them exhausted. Pavitt andPoneman did their best to revive the spirits of frustrated and downcastNIRVANA bandleader Kurt Cobain. While he nearly leapt from a 14-foot speaker tower one night, and then had his passport stolen, Cobainmanaged to continue to London, where NIRVANA played the most important show of its young career.
The band's breakthrough performance at the 2,000-capacity Astoria Theatre, London, was meant to be a warm-up for sets by labelmates and hometown Seattle heroes TAD and MUDHONEY. Openers NIRVANA won over the crowd and changed the band's fate, as the then-powerful London music press proclaimed NIRVANA: "Sub Pop's answer to THE BEATLES." Afterward, world attention increased dramatically, setting the stage for the 1990s, when NIRVANA became the most important band of the decade. Incredibly, Bruce Pavitt was there, photographing the events onstage and off, and documenting the details in the hours before fame came calling.
Nearly twenty-five years later, Bruce Pavitt has opened this treasure trove to the public. Says Pavitt: "I put a lot of heart into this grunge rock 'microhistory'. I'm honored to be collaborating with Bazillion Points on a hardcover edition of this project."
Bazillion Points books are available at all good bookstores, music stores, and online retailers, distributed to the book trade viaPGW/Perseus in North America, and Turnaround in Europe, or directly from the publisher.

TOOL Guitarist And Visual Guru ADAM JONES Talks 'Opiate' Reissue
TOOL will release a handcrafted, bonus-laden, limited-edition package of its original debut EP, "Opiate", on March 26 to mark the 21st anniversary of the six-song release.
The anniversary edition is limited to 5,000 copies and features art direction by Adam Jones, illustrations by legendary artist Adi Granov and design packaging by Mackie Osborne, who has collaborated with TOOL on many albums, including "10,000 Days", "Lateralus" and "Salival" as well as posters and merchandise.
The 5,000 copies will be broken down as 5 x 1,000 runs with each set featuring a variation of the exterior graphics and included bonus items which include a new stereoscopic image for fans to use with their glasses from the "10,000 Days" packaging.
The packages will only be available via TOOL's web site on March 26 and there will be no pre-orders. A limit of three packages from each of the 5 x 1,000 versions will be in place.
Speaking to Revolver magazine, TOOL guitarist Adam Jones stated about the five different versions of the "Opiate" artwork: "I'd call them variations. That defines it a little better. There's hand-pressed printing, there's old machine printing. [Designer] Mackie Osborne is kind of celebrating the intimacy and originality of this thing. If we had the budget, we'd take everything as far as possible.
"I've always lived my life in terms of what I want out of something, and what I want is to go to the store and buy something and go, 'Goddamn, I got more than my money's worth.' I want something where you can tell a lot of time went into it. That's what I love about painting. I appreciate stuff that people do in one day, but I appreciate seeing the layers of paint and the brushstrokes more — seeing that this person really ripped their guts out trying to capture something.
"There will be five variations in color, and a thousand copies of each. So five thousand copies total. And I know they're putting extra stuff in it, like some stickers, and I did a 3-D separation of some of the artwork so you can view it through the stereoscopic goggles from the '10,000 Days'album. I think there's a golden ticket, too, that's supposed to be in one of every thousand. I'm not sure what you get if you get the golden ticket — maybe tickets to one of our shows or something — I don't think we've decided yet. We're still putting it together. It's actually being printed right now."
Asked what exactly is happening with the artwork, Adam said: "When we did the original art for 'Opiate', I had a lot of people helping me and a lot of outside influence. I was doing makeup effects and sculpting in Hollywood. So for the art, we picked the song 'Opiate' and tried to design artwork around it. For the reissue, it was really nice to readdress that, especially my priest, because I wanted to get something a little more mystical and three-dimensional going on. Obviously, sculpting is three-dimensional, but I'm talking about ideas and thinking. So I asked Adi Granov to come and work with us. He's this amazing comic bookillustrator, and he's designed a lot of the 'Iron Man' suits for the 'Iron Man' movies. He hit me up on Facebook a while ago, and we became friends. So when it came time to do this 'Opiate' packaging, I totally thought of him. I sent him some sketches and ideas, he sent some sketches back, and he just nailed it, man. So we turned it all over toMackie — she's worked on a lot of our stuff, and she's [MELVINS singer-guitarist] Buzz Osborne's wife — and she's found this thick paper to print everything on that's gonna make this thing really special and collectible."

TOOL Guitarist: 'Getting Together Is Very Hard'
According to The Pulse Of Radio, TOOL guitarist Adam Jones has given a new interview to Revolvermagazine about the upcoming 21st anniversary re-release of the band's debut EP, "Opiate", but naturally the conversation turned to the band's long-delayed new album. When questioned about its status, Jones replied candidly, "It's unfortunate that we haven't put anything out in a while, but you know, we've changed as a band. It's just like a marriage — you grow older, people change, and you've gotta adapt or move on. We've become even more eclectic and distant, so getting things done and getting together is very hard."
Jones insisted, however, that this was "not a bad thing," adding, "We live kind of cushy lives now, so we get together when we want. It makes everything go slow, which is unfortunate — we all would have liked to have been done with a new record a long time ago — but when it's done, it's gonna be good . . . We also had two really bad things happen, things that I'm not gonna get into, that set us back emotionally and mentally. But we're past them now, everybody's recovered, and that process has kind of actually added to us focusing on being creative."
Jones also spoke about the deluxe reissue of "Opiate", which will come in a limited edition of 5,000 copies with five different covers, new artwork and other bonus material. He said, "What I want is to go to the store and buy something and go, 'Damn, I got more than my money's worth.' I want something where you can tell a lot of time went into it."
The 21st-anniversary edition of "Opiate" comes out on March 26.
POP EVIL Singer Talks New Album In Audio Interview
On March 9, Rustyn Rose of Metalholic.com conducted an interview with vocalist Leigh Kakaty of Grand Rapids, Michigan hard rockers POP EVIL. You can now listen to the chat in the YouTube clip below.
POP EVIL's new full-length album, "Onyx", is due out on May 14. The CD's first single, "Trenches", is available for streaming on the band's Facebook page.
The message of "Trenches" applies to the world of art as well as the world of sports, the military, or anyone struggling with the economic downturn, like POP EVIL's home state of Michigan.
"It's about our battles," Kakaty says.

Incubus' Brandon Boyd Says Upcoming Solo Album Will Evoke Images of "Sailors Riding Unicorns"
Incubus frontman Brandon Boyd is a busy guy. The singer says he’s been working on a number of new projects while Incubus is on hiatus, including a new solo album.
"It's awesome,” he tells Billboard. “When you hear it, you'll probably be reminded of sailors riding unicorns and unicorns farting beautiful gift-making elves and things like that…rainbows, pots of gold…stuff like that." Boyd notes that while he’s ready for the album to be released, there’s a bunch of “logistical stuff” that needs to be figured out first.
In addition to a new solo album, Boyd is working on a new book which will compliment the upcoming release. "It's an art book and it looks like the music sounds," he explains.
While Boyd has been busy with his own projects, the singer says his Incubus bandmates have been working on a number of side projects as well. "Chris Kilmore has been doing a lot of DJ gigs and has been making a name for himself doing so. [Guitarist] Mike Einziger just scored an independent film that's coming out this week I think. [Bassist]Ben Kenney is making another solo record on the East Coast.”
Black Keys Manager Accused of Trying to Influence Opponent of Anti-Scalping Bill
The manager of The Black Keys has been accused of offering free tickets for one of the band's concerts in order to influence an opponent of an anti-scalping bill in Tennessee backed by Ticketmaster.
According to WTVF-TV in Nashville, an attorney named John Ray Clemmons sent a letter to the state Senate Commerce Committee chairman, alleging that Black Keys manager Fielding Logan offered him "what he described as really good tickets to the upcoming Black Keys concert" prior to Clemmons' scheduled testimony before the committee in an alleged attempt to "keep me from opposing the bill."
Clemmons opposes the bill because he believes it would hurt charities that raise money by buying and then auctioning off tickets.
Logan confirms to both WTVF in a phone interview and to the committee chairman in a letter that he made the offer for the band's May 3 concert in Nashville, but he says he wasn't trying to influence Clemmons. He says in the letter that the offer was made "to demonstrate that paperless tickets can be transferred for the purpose of helping charities."
Logan is also the manager for country musician Eric Church.

Nine Inch Nails to Play Two New Songs on Upcoming Tour
Don't expect the set list for the upcoming Nine Inch Nails tour dates to be nothing but old material. Fans will get to hear some new music from the band as well.
Frontman Trent Reznor tells NME that the group plans to perform “a couple of tracks” during their live dates that were “intended to go on a greatest hits record.” Reznor adds that he wrote the tracks with King Crimson multi-instrumentalist Adrian Belew, who is now part of the group’s new lineup.
In addition to experiencing some new music from the band, Reznor says that their upcoming concerts will feature a fair amount of musical experimentation. "The intention is to reconstruct songs based on this new instrumentation and only play songs we as a band feel good about,” he reveals. “With Nine Inch Nails last time, I felt that I'd explored that kind of bludgeoning rock thing in a lot of different ways, like I'd done everything I could do with that format."
So far, NIN is set to appear at a number of festivals overseas, including Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival, South Korea’s Ansan Valley Festival and Germany’s Rock’n’Heim Festival. While the band is expected to announce more tour dates soon, Billboard quotes sources saying that NIN will be performing at this year’s Lollapalooza festival, which takes place August 2-4 in Chicago, IL.

CLUTCH: 'Crucial Velocity' Lyric Video Released
The official lyric video for the song "Crucial Velocity" from Maryland rockers CLUTCH can be seen below. The track comes off the band's new album, "Earth Rocker", which will be released on March 19 via CLUTCH's own Weathermaker Music label. Produced by Machine (LAMB OF GOD, FOUR YEAR STRONG, FALL OUT BOY) at the Machine Shop studio in Belleville, New Jersey, the CD was described by CLUTCH vocalist Neil Fallon in a recent interview with DCHeavyMetal.com as "probably faster than most of our recent albums. Maybe compared to some other bands, it's not the fastest thing on planet Earth. For us it was definitely a step up in the tempo. And I think the other thing that kind of stands out about this one is the blues influences that we've been flirting with over the past couple records is more or less absent in this record, which didn't really happen intentionally until we looked back at it. As a whole, it's just much more of a straight-up rock and roll record."
The artwork for "Earth Rocker" was created by Nick Lakiotes, longtime CLUTCH art director, who has worked on previous efforts, including"Robot Hive/Exodus" and "Strange Cousins From The West".
CLUTCH is featured on the cover of this month's Decibelmagazine. The issue features an in-depth interview with the entire band, as well as a special column on craft beer from the band's drummer and resident beer expert Jean-Paul Gaster.
CLUTCH kicked off the first leg of the "Earth Rocker" North American tour on March 8 in Cincinnati, Ohio and it runs through April 20 in Baltimore. VOLBEAT: Fan-Filmed Video Footage Of Entire San Antonio Concert
Fan-filmed video footage of VOLBEAT's entire March 9 in San Antonio, Texas can be seen at this location. A couple of the clips are available below.
VOLBEAT has released the video for "Cape Of Our Hero", the first single from the Danish band's upcoming album, "Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies". The song has just hit rock radio, while the clip tells the story of a young man who looks back at his youth and remembers his father as the most heroic figure in his life. Frontman Michael Poulsen told The Pulse Of Radio that the song was very personal to him. "I lost my father four, five years ago and I believe that every man in this universe, you know, they have their heroes and most of us are looking at our dad as a big hero," he said. "And so, of course, I'm singing about a little boy who lost his father, and then at the same time he loses his belief in his superheroes."
"Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies" will be released on April 9.
Former ANTHRAX member Rob Caggiano, who was a producer on the new disc, recently joined the band as its new guitarist. He replaces guitarist Thomas Bredahl, who was given his walking papers in November 2011.
The new disc follows up 2010's "Beyond Hell/Above Heaven", which featured three No. 1 rock radio hits, "A Warrior's Call", "Still Counting"and "Heaven Nor Hell".
VOLBEAT is currently on a spring tour of North America that next stops in Las Vegas on Thursday (March 14).

Actor Compares Metallica's Through the Never Film to Pink Floyd’s The Wall
In Treatment actor Dane DeHaan, who portrays a member of Metallica’s stage crew in the band’s 3D movie Through the Never, says that the upcoming flick draws some inspiration from Pink Floyd’s 1982 cult film, The Wall. “It’s in a way like a 3D concert movie but there’s also this narrative that ties together all the footage,” DeHaan tells Collider.com in a video interview. “It’s unlike anything that I’ve ever seen before; it’s almost like a concert movie meets The Wall meets Metallica.”
DeHaan adds that the film features a separate storyline where he must carry out a special request for the band. “During the concert I basically go on this trip as a roadie for the band and I pretty much literally have to go through hell and back…and all of this is going on during the concert so it all ties together really kind of beautifully and uniquely.” Metallica Through the Never is expected to arrive in theaters on August 9.
DROWNING POOL: 'Feel Like I Do' Performance Clip Featuring New Singer
A live studio performance of the song "Feel Like I Do" from Texas heavy rockers DROWNING POOL can be seen below (courtesy of Revolver magazine). The video showcases the band's new lead singer, Jasen Moreno.
According to The Pulse Of Radio, DROWNING POOL guitarist C.J. Pierceadmitted in a new interview with Billboard that he went through a "little bout of depression" after the band's last singer, Ryan McCombs, left the group in 2011. Pierce called McCombs' departure after six years "frustrating . . . like 'Here we go again,'" but added, "Now I look back, and things happen for a reason. It led us on this path and now we've got our favorite musician we've ever worked with, hands down. So we had to go through all the rest of it to get to this point."
DROWNING POOL's new singer — their third since the death of original frontman Dave Williams in 2002 — is fellow Dallas resident Jasen Moreno, and Pierce told The Pulse Of Radio a little about him. "Super great guy to work with, man," he said. "He's been by far the most respectful guy we've worked with since, you know, Dave's passing, and it's been nothing but awesome. We've written more songs with him in this past year than I think we've ever written in our whole career. He's a singer/songwriter as well. It's just fun to work with somebody else who's as passionate about it as you are, you know what I mean?"
Pierce told Billboard the band has known Moreno since the late '90s, saying, "He's been that guy on the scene; he was always great but never got his shot."
Moreno makes his debut with the group on its fifth studio album,"Resilience", which is due out on April 9. The first single is "Saturday Night".
Pierce said the record "has the staple DROWNING POOL sound . . . It's definitely more of a heavy record than we've done before, though."
DROWNING POOL is currently on the road with FLYLEAF, who are also introducing a new singer named Kristen May. The tour stops in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Friday (March 8).

We are shooting for a deadline that is at the end of April, early May. We are working hard every day on this thing. I am at the phase now where I am laying down solos here at my home studio. Generally, the first portion of the recording process I am writing and working on rhythm stuff. It's not 'till the last quarter that I switch over to doing the other stuff."

Video: SCOTT WEILAND Challenges Audience Member To Fight
Scott Weiland challenged an audience member to fight him during the former STONE TEMPLE PILOTS and VELVET REVOLVER singer's solo concert in New York City this past Saturday night (March 9).
The rocker — who is touring with his solo band, THE WILDABOUTS — confronted a heckling fan at Irving Plaza, telling the man in the crowd: "So you're fucking pulling that fucking, like, gun shit off on me? Then come up and meet me one on one, man. You play a tough guy from an audience behind a barricade. I'd love to. Yeah, that guy, trust me."
He continued: "I just don't get it. Guys like you fucking waste your money." Then he added to the security staff: "Actually, let him stay here and just get all fucking riled up. He won’t be able to sleep tonight."
Video footage of the incident can be found at this location.
Weiland's 20-city run of dates feature him performing songs from the first two STONE TEMPLE PILOTS albums, 1992's "Core" and 1994's "Purple".
THE WILDABOUTS consist of multi-instrumentalist Doug Grean, bassistTommy Black, drummer Dan Thompson and guitarist Jeremy Brown.
METALLICA's 'Through The Never' Is Almost Like A Concert Movie Meets 'The Wall', Says Actor
ActorDane DeHaan, who stars in METALLICA's much-anticipated 3D movie, "Metallica Through The Never", has described the film as "a concert movie meets 'The Wall' meets METALLICA" and says that it is "unlike anything that [he has] ever seen before."
"Metallica Through The Never" will be the first new release via Picturehouse, the full-service independent film marketing and distribution company started in 2005, which is reopening its doors with founder Bob Berney at the helm. The film, written and directed byNimród Antal ("Kontroll", "Predators"), stars members of the iconic rock band and DeHaan ("Chronicle", "The Amazing Spider-Man 2").DeHaan plays a young band crew member who is sent out on an urgent mission while the band is playing a rousing live set in front of a sold-out crowd and unexpectedly finds his world turned completely upside down.
Speaking to Collider.com, Dane, who first gained notice for his impressive performance on the HBO series "In Treatment" in 2010, stated about"Metallica Through The Never": "It's, in a way, like a 3D concert movie but there's also this narrative that ties together all the footage. It's gonna be, first of all, really rock and roll and really 'METALLICA,' for lack of a better word; they don't hold back at all. But during the concert, I basically go on this trip as a roadie for the band and I pretty much literally have to go through hell and back to take it back to them, and all of this is going on during the concert, so it all ties together really kind of beautifully and uniquely. It's unlike anything that I've ever seen before; it's almost like a concert movie meets 'The Wall' meets METALLICA… We filmed it last August."
METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich revealed in a recent interview withClassic Rock magazine some more details about "Metallica Through The Never", which will combine concert footage with a fictional storyline.Ulrich cited the 1976 LED ZEPPELIN movie "The Song Remains The Same" as a major influence, explaining, "There are four members in LED ZEPPELIN, four members in METALLICA, it's a full-length movie, and there's a lot in this film that does not take place onstage. The major difference is that the stuff that takes place offstage in the METALLICAmovie does not feature any members of METALLICA. It's two separate worlds — a METALLICA show and a story that unfolds in a parallel universe — and at some point they intertwine."
The ZEPPELIN film interspersed concert footage with fantasy sequences starring each member of the group.
The concert sequences for METALLICA's movie were shot last August at two shows in Vancouver, Canada.
Ulrich told The Pulse Of Radio a while back that making a movie has been one of the most daunting challenges METALLICA has ever taken on. "It's sort of fun, it's intimidating, it's a little overwhelming, to be honest, because it's a whole different league," he said. "You know, when we go down to [the METALLICA headquarters in San Rafael, California] and record and make a record, it's kind of — you know, we can manage the size of that. [laughs] When you're talking about doing, like, a 3D movie that you're gonna, like, play all over the world, that's a little bit of a bigger undertaking, so obviously we're treading a little more carefully."
VOLBEAT: 'Cape Of Our Hero' Video Released
"Cape Of Our Hero", the new video from Danish metal rock 'n' rollersVOLBEAT, can be seen below. The song comes off the band's fifth studio album, "Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies", which will be released in Germany, Austria and Switzerland on April 5, in the rest of Europe on April 8, and in North America on April 9 via Vertigo/Republic Records/Universal Music.
Seamlessly bringing together all of the band's influences and reshaping them into something gleaming and new, "Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies" is a record that's rich with stories and characters woven throughout its lyrics. Some are real — like the noble lady outlaw Pearl Hart, who held up a stagecoach to buy medicine for her dying mother, orLola Montez, the erotic dancer with her infamous "Spider Dance," or "Black Bart," the gentleman highwayman who wrote poems for the people he robbed. Others are entirely fictional. "The Nameless One" is a cautionary tale of dabbling in the dark arts, featuring the mysterious and sinister character of the title. Elsewhere, "Room 24", featuring King Diamond, was inspired by a terrifying experience in a hotel room somewhere in the heart of America.
"Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies" finds the core trio of Michael Poulsen (vocals/guitar), Anders Kjølholm (bass) and Jon Larsen(drums) joined by former ANTHRAX/THE DAMNED THINGS guitarist Rob Caggiano, who produced the album with longtime VOLBEAT co-producerJacob Hansen.
"It's a new vibe for VOLBEAT," says Poulsen. "You've got everything — the rockabilly stuff, the melodies, the ultra-heavy stuff, the Western motifs and the big rock songs. It's everything that VOLBEAT are all about, but taken even further." The album title is a phrase that evokes another time, an era when elegant lawbreakers were the rock stars of the day. It tips its fedora to everything from the bad men (and women) of the old west to the old school metal bands who influenced the youngMichael Poulsen to form his first band, DOMINUS, back in the early 90s.
As with so many classic albums, the seeds of "Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies" were sown on the road in Europe and the U.S. That's where Poulsen began playing around with ideas and riffs, recording them on his mobile phone and directly to an amp. "Melody, lyrics, everything — it's just working non-stop in my head," he shares. When the band eventually returned to Denmark, it was time to go to work. The band leader recalls, "We came back from the U.S. after touring a lot over there, and isolated ourselves in our own homes for six months to finish off the album. That peace was something I needed. Even though it's very inspiring to write on the road, it's more comfortable to write at home."
It was there that the album truly began to take shape. Poulsen would close the curtains, turn off the light and draw inspiration from the old Western movies he'd watched as a child with his father. Watching the old spaghetti westerns he's watched with his father provided a catalyst for inspiration. He offers, "Sometimes it's just about the right feeling — the scenery, the lines, the dusty look. I have my own soundtrack when I see those kind of pictures."
You can hear the influence of the Old West right from the start in "Let's Shake Some Dust", an evocative intro track that features harmonica from acclaimed blues harp player Paul Lamb. You can hear it again in the rampaging "Black Bart", which Poulsen describes as "our country-MOTÖRHEAD song," and in the banjos that pepper the chorus of the hard-as-steel "Doc Holliday", a tribute to the legendary lawman and associate of the Wyatt Earp gang. But "Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies" is no country and western record. If it was a car, it would be a 1973 Stutz Blackhawk with monster truck wheels — vintage and modern, stylish and muscular.
You can hear echoes of classic '50s rock 'n' roll in the soaring; "Pearl Hart", and the live classic-in-waiting "Lola Montez". The band's metal roots come to the fore via the heavy riffage of "Dead But Rising" and"The Nameless One", while the ghostly "The Lonesome Rider" – which finds Michael duetting with Sarah Blackwood of Canadian band WALK OFF THE EARTH like a modern-day Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash— beats with a rockabilly heart. Elsewhere, they bring some greased-back energy to "My Body", a cover of the hit song by U.S. pop-punk outfitYOUNG THE GIANT, while the brooding album closer "Our Loved Ones" is the nearest thing they've ever written to a ballad. Poulsen offers, "When I was growing up, my dad and mother played a lot of old records — Elvis,Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry. I love that stuff — it's a drug somehow. My own record collection growing up was metal. But I listen to a lot of different styles of music. If something moves you, I don't care what it is."
The track "Room 24" features a massive coup for VOLBEAT with the guest appearance from King Diamond, the legendary front man of Danish metal pioneers MERCYFUL FATE, and one of Poulsen's musical idols.Michael reveals, "I'm a huge fan of MERCYFUL FATE and KING DIAMOND. Having King on the record is a huge privilege. Normally, it's not something he does. He wrote his own lines, and it is half my lyrics and half his. It's a weird, scary story, and he's the perfect person for it." Additional guests include Anders Pedersen on slide guitar, Rod Sinclair on banjo and Jakob Øelund on double bass.
The album itself was recorded in the legendary PUK Studios in Randers, Denmark, with Jacob Hansen and Rob Caggianosharing production duties, which brought a new dynamic to proceedings. Poulsen reflects, "I love Jacob Hansen's work. He's part of VOLBEAT, and we worked together on all the albums so far. I started flirting with the idea of bringingRob in as a producer too because he produced ANTHRAX and THE DAMNED THINGS, and I like the sound of what he did there. I thought, 'That could be a really cool combination,' as both are quality guys with really high standards."
In closing, Poulsen sums it up in sharing, "I chose this way of living because I love playing music and I love touring. We wanted to write, we wanted to be inspired by our idols, we just wanted to rock out. That, for me, is what music is all about."

On March 5, Lamb of God singer Randy Blythe was acquitted of manslaughter by a Czech court in connection with an incident that took place during the band’s 2010 concert at Club Abaton in Prague. Blythe was accused of roughing up a fan named Daniel Nosekafter he leaped onto the stage during the show. Czech Republic authorities alleged that the incident caused injuries that led to Nosek's death 14 days later.
In an open letter posted on Instagram.com, the singer explains that while he feels that Prague is a “wonderful place,” it is also one of “great sadness” for him. “While I am relieved that my innocence was proven and apparently I shall not be going to prison, I am in no way shape or form a happy man right now,” he writes. “A young man is still dead, and his family still suffers.”
Blythe adds that Nosek’s family was “very kind” to him during the trial and that they showed him “great kindness - with silence, with actions, and finally with words.”
“They spoke on my behalf to the court, and we had a private talk afterwards,” he writes. “They just want to get on with their lives the best they can. I wish them only the best, and will keep them in my thoughts and prayers.”
The end of the letter asks that fans send “healing thoughts” to Nosek’s family.

Drowning Pool Guitarist C.J. Pierce Promises ResilienceWill Be a Heavier Record
Drowning Pool guitarist C.J. Pierce says that fans can expect the band to tackle some heavier themes on their upcoming fifth album, Resilience.
"I would say [Resilience] has the staple Drowning Pool sound," he tells Billboard. "We wanted to do more of a heavy record, a metal record, but we try to mix it up. There's a lot to choose from. It's definitely more of a heavy record than we've done before, though."
Pierce adds that while he “went through a little bout of depression” after former frontman Ryan McCombs left the group in 2011, he’s happy with the band’s new lead singer, Jasen Moreno.
"We've always known Jasen," explains Pierce. "I had no idea he was going to audition for us, but he came in and learned every song off every record, and then we sent him a bunch of new songs and he sounded great on them. It was like we'd worked together for ten years.”

ROB ZOMBIE/ex-MARILYN MANSON guitarist John 5 last year spoke toDailyHerald.com about the songwriting process for the score for "The Lords Of Salem".
"Rob would give me direction, like, 'I want it to sound like this, or I want it to sound like that,'" John, whose real name is John Lowery, said. "It's very primitive, not your everyday-sounding instruments. I would use a violin bow across an acoustic guitar or clank on things or use other odd musical instruments. Then, of course, you have your bassoons and french horns and everything under the sun for other parts of the score. It's very unorthodox, if you will, but it really was a lot of fun. It was a lot of work and it was a big challenge. It turned out amazing, though. I'm very proud of it; that's for sure."
He added, "I wanted the theme of this movie to be very simple, like 'Jaws'or 'Halloween' — something that's so easy to remember. When you see the movie, you'll understand what I'm talking about. I really wanted to concentrate on the simple things that ring in your head. I wanted to do something easy in that sense so people could remember it and hopefully have fun with it."
Asked if he had a lot of visual elements to work with, the guitarist said, "We [John 5 and producer Griffin Boice] would get visuals, or we would get a scene or two and just go off of it from there. It's really amazing when you see a shot with nothing there and then create this sound. It's pretty incredible to see how it all comes to life.
"It's funny, the power of music. I was watching 'Dracula', the 1931 version with Bela Lugosi, and the only music you hear is at the very beginning of the credits. There's not one other piece of music; it's all silent. It's unbelievable and it's very effective, too."
SLASH Records Version Of 'Angry Birds Space' Theme
Legendary guitarist Slash (GUNS N' ROSES, VELVET REVOLVER) has created what is said to be "an incredible all-new version" of the "Angry Birds Space" theme song and you can hear it shortly after opening the newly updated game on your iDevice. A button with a musical note calls up an image of Slash transformed into one of the game's characters, complete with a link to purchase Slash's music.
Compatible with iDevices running iOS 4.3 or later, the newly updated"Angry Birds Space" for iPhone and "Angry Birds Space HD" for iPad are available in the App Store for $0.99 and $2.99, respectively.
Slash has reportedly been a longtime fan of "Angry Birds". Three years ago, he was retweeted on the official "Angry Birds" Twitter account when he quipped that "Angry Birds" is "like a drug, only cheaper."
Back in February, Slash stopped by the headquarters of "Angry Birds"creators Rovio in Finland. "'Angry Birds' found out that I was a big fan and reached out to me," he says in a promotional video which can be seen below. "I really jumped at the chance to get involved."
The "Angry Birds Space" version takes gamers through planets filled with water, strange aquatic life and bad piggies in boats.
Slash isn't the first rocker to be associated with the "Angry Birds"games. Last year's "Angry Birds Friends" series featured customizedGREEN DAY pigs, 10 never-before-seen levels and the chance to unlock a brand-new song off the band's "¡Uno!" album called "Troublemaker".

To purchase the "Kill 'Em All" Classic Slip-On and Sk8-Hi shoes online, or find a store near you, go to this location.
Originally issued on July 25, 1983 through the independent labelMegaforce Records, "Kill 'Em All" was recorded in two weeks on a miniscule budget in upstate New York. Although only 1,500 copies were initially pressed, the album was reissued by Elektra Records after the band signed to that label in 1984 and has since been certified triple platinum for sales of more than three million copies.
The original title of "Kill 'Em All" was "Metal Up Your Ass".
The album's opening cut, "Hit the Lights", was the first song that frontman James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich wrote together after forming METALLICA. An early version of the track appeared on the 1982 compilation "Metal Massacre".
Lead guitarist Dave Mustaine was replaced by Kirk Hammett shortly before recording commenced, although Mustaine still has several writing credits on the disc and went on to form MEGADETH.
A number of songs from the album are still part of METALLICA's set list to this day, including "The Four Horsemen", "Seek and Destroy" and "No Remorse".
METALLICA has since gone on to become one of the biggest rock bands in the world, selling tens of millions of copies of its eight studio albums, including 16 million alone of 1991's self-titled "black album." The band's ninth effort, "Death Magnetic", arrived in 2008.
Former KILLSWITCH ENGAGE Singer Joins Forces With ALL SHALL PERISH, DEVOLVED Members
Former KILLSWITCH ENGAGE singer Howard Jones (pictured below) is reportedly working on a new project with ALL SHALL PERISH guitarist Francesco Artusato and members of DEVOLVED. The new band is said to be represented by Mike Gitter as part of King Artist Management.
Jones was among the musicians who performed at the launch event forMetal Gear Rising: Revengeance on February 18 at GameStop at Universal CityWalk in Universal City, California.
KILLSWITCH ENGAGE was rejoined by singer Jesse Leach early last year following the departure of Jones after nine years and three successful albums.
KILLSWITCH ENGAGE bassist Mike D'Antonio told BostonGlobe.comthat the band's split with Jones was necessitated by the singer's struggle with personal issues, including diabetes that had gone untreated for several years. "It became very apparent we had to move on without him,"D'Antonio said. "Howard didn't quit."
In a statement regarding his departure from the group, Jones wrote in part, "I've had a pretty interesting couple of years, to say the least, battling with some personal issues. One of the low points being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes that went unchecked for years. The rest of the band stuck with me through it, and, to be honest, they are the ones that kept me going. The whole experience definitely put a scare in me."
He continued, "Recently we've all been in writing mode, but somehow I couldn't get excited about the new album and all the touring that would go with it. The guys saw it before I did. In hindsight, I now realize that my heart wasn't in it."
Jones thanked the rest of the band for "an amazing decade," adding, "I have so many good memories, and those are the ones that I will keep."
SEVENDUST: New Album Is 'Almost Like A Greatest-Hits Record Of Songs You've Never Heard Before'
James Wood of GuitarWorld.com recently conducted an interview with SEVENDUST guitarists John Connolly and Clint Lowery. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
GuitarWorld.com: "Black Out The Sun" has a different sound for you guys. How would you describe it?
Connolly: It has a totally different vibe about it. It's darker, but with a little bit of hope. There's always that light at the end of the tunnel. When I listen to it, it's almost like a greatest-hits record of songs you've never heard before. There's an album that every one of those songs could potentially live on. There’s some stuff that sounds like it might belong on"Home", some that sounds like "Seasons". Then there are some"Alpha" moments as well.
Lowery: We didn't over-think the record. It has a spontaneous feel. It has the spirit of our older records, but it's evolved as well. If you're already a fan, it caters to the elements you've always liked. We're proud of this album.
GuitarWorld.com: What approach was used for writing songs for the album?
Lowery: It usually comes from an idea or a riff that John or I start. It's us coming up with beats and constructing the skeletal idea of the song from there. Then we'd get the band together to play it with everyone. By that point we'd start arranging it, and vocals are the last thing.
Connolly: There was definitely no shortage of ideas. For this record, we had a writing area behind the live drums in the studio. Whenever someone was in the studio working on parts, any number of us would gather in this writing station and map things out right there on the spot. This was one of those albums where on Monday "Decay" didn't exist and by the end of Tuesday night, it was there.
GuitarWorld.com: What's the secret to the band's longevity?
Lowery: The concept originally was to put together a band with guys you actually enjoyed hanging out with. You have to live with these people on a bus so you need to have mutual respect and consideration for each other.
Connolly: We have a lot of friends in this business, but I don't know too many bands that have all the same five original guys. People see us eating at a Chili's on an off day and they flip out. But the thing that excites them the most is the fact that it's actually all five of us eating at the same table together. [laughs]
Former PANTERA Bassist: 'If DIMEBAG Was Alive, I Believe We Would Still Be Jamming Together'
Metal Mark of SkullsNBones.com recently conducted an interview with former PANTERA and DOWN and current KILL DEVIL HILL bassist Rex Brown about Rex's memoir, "Official Truth, 101 Proof: The Inside Story Of Pantera". A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
SkullsNBones.com: For starters, you were always considered the "quiet" member of PANTERA, and you really hold nothing back in the new book. Was it challenging or weird for you to let people in more than you ever have before?
Rex: It was more cathartic for me than anything else. It was a lot harder than I expected, but I think it turned out great. Writing a book ain't easy, man. [laughs] Trying to get all those words in, all the stories in, and everything else in 320 pages was really difficult. It could have been over 900 pages, but we made sure it wasn't, ya know. As for it being weird, I would never say it was weird, because I had a story to tell, and it's finally coming out for everyone next week.
SkullsNBones.com: For me as a PANTERA fan, reading about where you were the moment you heard about [the death of PANTERA guitarist"Dimebag" Darrell Abbott] and the days after, it was tough to get through. How hard was it for you to go back to those memories and sort of relive them for this book?
Rex: Bro, the word cathartic just keeps coming up for me. Having to rewrite this thing so many times, it was good, but at times it was really sad. I really wanted to put my experience out there, because I've heard so many others, so now people know my experience with hearing the news as well. It's still devastating to think about, but I think we all feel that way. It was definitely tough, though, man; I won't lie.
SkullsNBones.com: As you mention Dime, the parts in the book about all of you growing up together is really an awesome read. From the classrooms to the jam sessions, it's really cool to learn. Of course, no one could have imagined how huge PANTERA would become, but it seemed right from the beginning that you knew that this was going to be something good.
Rex: Yes and no. We were four completely different individuals, even in the beginning, but we had that drive to be the best we possibly could. We just went through a crazy ride that took us to the top and it was unreal at times. It wasn't always good and fun, but in the end, you mentionPANTERA and the amount of respect that name brings is something I'm sure we are all super proud of still to this day.
SkullsNBones.com: As you know, with every musician's book, there will be those people who say it's only your side of things and it may not be completely accurate. How do you respond to those who say that?
Rex: It's all true, man. I didn't fabricate anything. I threw in entertaining stories, to keep the reader involved, but it's all true. Everyone that has read it can clearly feel the honesty, and that was important to me. The bottom line was if I was happy with it, and I am, so people can respond how they choose. I'm very proud of this book. This is just my story, man. I didn't write it for money or to piss people off; it's just me telling the story from my eyes, because I lived it. There were only four of us who knew what went on, and this is my story. I can't stress that enough.
SkullsNBones.com: Throughout all the bad things that may have happened during those years, it does not take away that you four guys lived a dream that only a few people can say they have. Do you have any regrets looking back on those years?
Rex: I totally agree, man. We were very fucking lucky, we were very fucking determined, and I have absolutely no regrets. The only regret is what happened to Dime, but I had no control over that. It's a shame that some fucking deranged idiot decided to do that to someone so special in this world. It's a bigger shame that we will never know what might have happened. As I said in the book, if Dime was alive, I believe we would still be jamming together. To put it plain and simple, I have no fucking regrets. You can always look back and say we could have done things differently, but that's life in general. You live and you learn, ya know.

Papa Roach’s Jacoby Shaddix Looking to “Try Some New Things” at End of Connection Tour
Jacoby Shaddix is ready for his next challenge. The Papa Roach frontman says he’s looking to tackle some new projects once the band finishes their current tour promoting their latest album, The Connection.
“I wanna kind of spread out a little bit and try some new things,” he tells ABC News Radio. “I think my next baby step will be either working with another band or just maybe doing like a song for a movie soundtrack or something like that. I don’t really feel like I need to start a side project or anything like that but just dabble in a couple little things to just kinda separate myself a little bit.”
Shaddix hints that he’s hoping the band will go on a hiatus in the near future so he’ll be free to have time to explore other opportunities. “I’ve considered the idea of [a hiatus for Papa Roach],” he reveals. “I [just] gotta make sure everybody else wants to do the same thing…because this is a band. We got to stick together and that’s what it’s about…we gotta take care of each other first. But we own a recording studio, so, come on I want to produce a record!”
Papa Roach has tour dates scheduled until July 3, so it’s unlikely that Shaddix will any get time to work on anything new before then.

Frontman James Hetfield Says Metallica Can’t Get Next Album Recorded Due to "Exciting" Gigs
Metallica frontman James Hetfield says that while the band has a number of songs written for the follow-up to 2008’s Death Magnetic, it’s been difficult to record the new album because they’re always out on the road.
"Gigs keep popping up that are too exciting to stay home for," the singer tells Australian radio station Triple M. "We have lots of material [we've been] working on from the dayDeath Magnetic ended all the way up until now.”
Hetfield adds that the band will explore new creative avenues on the upcoming album, which will feature “lots of different sounds [and] different styles.” "We're one of those bands that doesn't really care what people want," he explains. "We have been artists since day one. We're not going to roll over for anyone and, you know, we're Metallica for a reason and we're going to keep doing that."
In the meantime, Metallica fans can look forward to seeing the band perform headlining sets at their Orion Music + More Festival June 8-9 at Belle Isle Park in Detroit, Michigan, as well as seeing the band's 3D concert film, Metallica Through the Never, which will arrive in theaters on August 9.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH Drummer Discusses 'Revolver Golden Gods' Nomination, Performance
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH recently entered Las Vegas' The Hideout Recording Studio to begin recording its fourth album for a summer release. Helming the sessions once again is The Hideout's owner, Kevin Churko, the Canadian musician, sound engineer, songwriter and record producer, who has also previously worked with OZZY OSBOURNE and IN THIS MOMENT, among other acts.
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH is scheduled to make a number of festival appearances this summer, including on a yet-to-be-announced "big tour" (rumored to be Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival) in the U.S. The band was also nominated in the "Best Live Band" category at the fifth annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards Presented By Epiphone, which will take place Thursday, May 2, at Club Nokia in Downtown Los Angeles.
A short video clip of FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH drummer Jeremy Spencer talking to Artisan News about the Revolver Golden Godsnomination and performance can be seen below.
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH guitarist Zoltan Bathory told The Pulse Of Radio that staying focused is the key to the band's success. "I think the idea of 'rock star' has changed in the last two decades," he said. "The whole idea of like, 'hey, let's party, let's drink or do stuff that's stupid' doesn't work. It's a different world now. You have to be really conscious of what's happening, because it's so much harder now. You really have to work for it, you really have to know what you're doing, you have to be aggressive, goal-oriented, and you have to have a head on your shoulders, or it's just not gonna happen."
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH's most recent tour was last summer'sTrespass America trek, also featuring KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, POP EVILand others.

Stone Sour's Corey Taylor Talks Butt-Kicking Process for Making House of Gold and Bones Comic Series
Next month, fans will get their hands on the first issue of Stone Sour’s comic book adaptation of their double concept album, House of Gold and Bones. Frontman Corey Taylor says that while he’s enjoying the process of making the comic mini-series, it requires more work than he originally anticipated.
“It’s been kicking my butt the whole time,” he tells ABC News Radio. “There’s so many people that you have to over-explain the things that you see in your head to the artist because they can’t read your mind. There’s all these little things that keep a comic moving that I just kind of took for granted because, you know, as a reader you just enjoy it when it’s done really well.”
Taylor adds that he learned a lot while making the four-issue series, and that he was able to bring his unique perspective as a comic book fan into the mix. “[The people at Dark Horse Comics] really tried to, kind of, convey to me how a comic should feel and they’ve let me stray from the norm here and there,” he explains. “So, I think between all of us we’ve been able to make something really exciting."
The first issue of the comic book series will be available starting April 17. House of Gold & Bones Part 2 will arrive at all the usual outlets on April 9.
Jack White’s Blunderbuss Goes Gold
Jack White’s Blunderbuss just went gold. The Recording Industry Association of America has certified that the ex-White Stripes singer’s debut solo album has sold over 500,000 copies. Blunderbuss has been a hugely successful release for White, scoring him his first #1 album on the Billboard 200 albums chart its first week out. While White has racked up seven top-10 albums with The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather, he'd never scored a #1 album on the Billboard album chart until Blunderbuss. White’s previous highest-charting release was The Stripes’ final studio album, Icky Thump, which hit #2 when it was released in 2007.
In addition, Blunderbuss was the best-selling vinyl album of 2012, racking up 33,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan's vinyl charts. Blunderbuss unseated The Beatles' 1969 album, Abbey Road, which had held the top spot on the vinyl charts for the last three years. Blunderbuss is also the first new album to top the vinyl charts since SoundScan first started tracking vinyl sales in 2008.
Pearl Jam, Arcade Fire Make Rolling Stone’s “New Immortals” List
Pearl Jam and Arcade Fire are among the artists that have scored a place on Rolling Stone’s list of The New Immortals -- that is, relatively current acts the magazine thinks will stand the test of time.
Pearl Jam makes the list because they've built “one of the most devoted cult audiences in rock,” while Arcade Fire gets immortal status for making music that combines the “the naked emotion of Bruce Springsteen's best work with the stadium-shaking ambition ofU2 circa The Joshua Tree."
Other rock artists that made the mag’s tally include Wilco, Green Day, The Strokes,Phish and two bands that called it quits in 2011: The White Stripes and LCD Soundsystem.
The New Immortals list is an offshoot of Rolling Stone's Immortals list of the 50 greatest artists of all time, first published in 2004.
Volbeat’s Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies to Feature Guest Appearance from King Diamond
Volbeat has revealed that King Diamond, frontman of Danish metal pioneers Mercyful Fate, will appear on the band’s upcoming album, Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies. Diamond will lend his talents to a track titled “Room 24,” which was inspired by "a terrifying experience in a hotel room.”
"Having King on the record is a huge privilege,” said frontman Michael Poulsen in a statement. “He wrote his own lines, and it is half my lyrics and half his. It’s a weird, scary story, and he’s the perfect person for it.”
Poulsen adds that the upcoming release will feature a variety of different musical styles and includes a cover of alternative rockers Young the Giant’s hit single, “My Body.” "It's a new vibe for Volbeat,” he explains. "You've got everything -- the rockabilly stuff, the melodies, the ultra-heavy stuff, the Western motifs and the big rock songs. It's everything that Volbeat are all about, but taken even further." Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies will arrive at all the usual outlets on April 9.

DEVICE's self-titled debut album is due out April 9 and features guest appearances from AVENGED SEVENFOLD singer M.
The "Vilify" clip was directed by P.R. Brown, who has previously collaborated with such artists as MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE, John Mayer,Alicia Keys, Carrie Underwood, Prince, AUDIOSLAVE, MÖTLEY CRÜEand SIXX: A.M.
Draiman launched DEVICE last year after DISTURBED announced in the fall of 2011 that it was going on an extended hiatus.
Lenardo will not be part of the DEVICE live band due to previous commitments, but the touring lineup includes EVANESCENCE drummer Will Hunt and DOPE guitarist Virus.

Scott Weiland: Nobody in Stone Temple Pilots Can Be Fired
Scott Weiland insists that he’s still the lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots, despite the fact that the band released a one-sentence statement last week saying that they have “officially terminated” him as their frontman.
"There are some issues that have to be worked out with STP," Weiland tells SPIN. "But they’re the same issues that have been going on since the end of the last tour. Nobody in the band can be fired. No one’s ever fired anybody, and no one's ever quit the band."
The singer adds that the announcement of his dismissal has affected him deeply. "[STP] really have been together a long time, and I'm proud of that," he explains. "I really do like those guys, and it hurts my feelings when we aren’t getting along, because I view them as family."
Weiland is currently out on a North American tour performing STP’s first two albums, 1992’s Core and 1994’s Purple, with his new solo band, The Wildabouts.
While STP's future is uncertain, Weiland has said that he plans to release a solo album with The Wildabouts sometime in the near future.
Members of Foo Fighters, Blink-182, Guns N’ Roses Try Out for The Postal Service in FunnyOrDie.com Clip
Ever wonder how electronic artist Jimmy Tamborello partnered up with Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard to become The Postal Service? The band is offering up their humorous take on the subject in a new video on FunnyOrDie.com.
In the nine-minute clip, Tamborello and a Sub Pop Records executive hold tryouts for The Postal Service in 2002. A variety of rock stars get their shot to be in the band, including Foo Fighters bassist Nate Mendel, Blink-182 guitarist Tom DeLonge, formerGuns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan, Helmet guitarist Page Hamilton, and a shirtlessMoby, who trashes the audition room while screaming obscenities. When Gibbard takes the stage and begins singing lyrics to The Postal Service’s track, "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight," he gets the job and a new band is born.
In other Postal Service news, the band has announced another handful of tour dates to celebrate the April 9 release of a special edition of their debut album, Give Up Deluxe 10th Anniversary Edition. Alice in Chains Guitarist Jerry Cantrell Promises “Some Real Filth” on Upcoming Album
Alice in Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell says that the band’s upcoming album, The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here, will feature some heavier themes than their previous release, 2009’sBlack Gives Way to Blue.
"There's some real filth in there,” he tells Rolling Stone. "We're trying to make a record that we dig and we're trying to keep the bar high for ourselves and see if we can get past it, and I think that we did again.”
Cantrell adds that he’s thrilled that fans have been responding well to the album’s first single, “Hollow,” which is currently in the top spot on the Active Rock Chart. "We just put that song out there for the fans and then it ended up turning into a number-one single, a six-minute sludgy metal tune,” he notes. “That's always fun, to see something like that happen."
While The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here doesn’t yet have a firm release date, it is expected to hit all the usual outlets sometime in May.
According to Blesk.cz and Novinky.cz, LAMB OF GOD frontman Randy Blythe has been found not guilty of manslaughter earlier today (Tuesday, March 5) by a three-judge panel in the Czech Republic.
Blythe was facing the possibility of conviction and a long-term jail sentence after a May 2010 incident in which a fan, Daniel Nosek, who attended a LAMB OF GOD performance in Prague, died almost a month later, allegedly from injuries sustained when he was thrown off the stage.
"I have been found not guilty and acquitted of all charges against me,"Randy wrote on his Instagram account. "I am a free man.
"Please remember the family of Daniel Nosek in your thoughts and prayers in this difficult time. I only wish for them peace. Thank you for your support."
Tuesday's ruling by Prague's Municipal Court was confirmed by the court spokeswoman, Marketa Puci.
The state prosecutors have announced their intention to appeal the verdict; they have eight days to put this in writing.
The court ruled that the act described in the charges cannot be qualified as a crime. It added that the dead man's family can claim compensation in civil court proceedings.
Randy's trial resumed yesterday (Monday, March 4) after court was adjourned last month due to missing witnesses (two expert witnesses – criminal psychologist/psychiatrist and a girl who attended the concert).
The presiding judge, Tomas Kubovec, said the opinions found in their reports were basically the same, according to WTVR.com. However, during testimony, they disagreed on how aggressive/anti-social Blythe is.
"I would like to thank the family of Daniel Nosek for not attacking me in the press and for their kind words to me in this court," Randy said in a statement to the court before the verdict was announced (see video below). "I am very sorry for their loss.
"Daniel was a fan of my band. I had no wish to harm him. He was just a boy and I wish he was still here.
"If, ultimately, the Czech legal system sentences me to prison, I will do my sentence like a man.
"If I am to remain free, I will do my best to insure that conditions at this concert will not occur again with my band and other bands so that the fans will remain safe.
"I have searched for an answer to this situation. The only one I can find is that it was a tragic, horrible accident."
Blythe was unaware of a warrant out for his arrest when he was detained last June after arriving at the Prague airport for a show with LAMB OF GOD. He spent spent five weeks in custody before being released on bail in August.
The parents of the alleged victim were demanding compensation of 10 million Czech Koruna (approximately $530,000).
COREY TAYLOR To Host Discussion At SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST
STONE SOUR and SLIPKNOT frontman Corey Taylor will host a discussion at the 2013 South By Southwest Music Conference. "What The Hell Was That?!: Corey Taylor And The Art Of Making Mistakes"will take place in Ballroom E of Artist Central in the Austin Convention Center at 2 p.m. local time on Friday, March 15. The discussion is open to all SXSW patrons with music and platinum badges and artist wristbands.Taylor will also drop by the South By Book Store to sign copies of his best-selling book, "Seven Deadly Sins: Settling The Argument Between Born Bad And Damaged Goods". The signing will take place just after his session from 3:15 to 3:35 p.m.
Taylor's second book, a follow-up to his 2011 memoir "Seven Deadly Sins", will be published this coming summer. The tentative title is "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Heaven". He explained what it's about, "It's basically my experiences with the paranormal, and ghost sightings and occurrences, and I've had a lot, enough that I'm writing a damn book about it. But it's actually . . . it's about how can I believe in ghosts, and not in God? So it's a very interesting conversation. And that's kind of what I wanted to do with 'Seven Deadly Sins', was start a conversation and get people thinking about it."
"Seven Deadly Sins" made the New York Times hardcover non-fiction best sellers list after it came out in July 2011, debuting at No. 26. The paperback edition, issued last year, features a bonus chapter.
Taylor promoted the book by doing a solo tour in which he combined readings, songs and discussion with the audience.
ALICE IN CHAINS Guitarist: New Album Is 'Completely Different From Anything We Ever Did'
ALICE IN CHAINS has set a May release date for its new album, which is officially titled "The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here". The group's fifth studio effort is its second with William DuVall on vocals and follows up 2009's"Black Gives Way To Blue", the group's first all-new collection of material in 14 years and first since the 2002 death of original singer Layne Staley.
"We made a unique record that's completely different from anything we ever did," ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell tellsRollingStone.com.

LAMB OF GOD Frontman: 'I Categorically Refuse To Live In A Constant State Of Guilt And Fear'
A three-judge panel in the Czech Republic said it could deliver a verdict by today in the manslaughter trial of LAMB OF GOD frontman Randy Blythe.
Blythe's manslaughter trial in Prague, Czech Republic resumed yesterday (Monday, March 4) after court was adjourned last month due to missing witnesses.
Blythe is facing the possibility of conviction and a long-term jail sentence after a May 2010 incident in which a fan, Daniel Nosek, who attended a LAMB OF GOD performance in Prague, died almost a month later, allegedly from injuries sustained when he was thrown off the stage.
In a brand new posting on his Instagram account, Blythe reflected on his legal battle and mentally prepared for today's verdict, explaining that he "categorically refuse[s] to live in a constant state of guilt and fear."
He wrote: "It's a beautiful morning in Prague, and time for me to go to what is (hopefully) my final day in court here- supposedly judgement will be passed today and I will move on with my life in one direction or the other. Which direction that is, I do not know. I could walk free, or conversely go to prison for up to ten years. Such is my life right now, and I must stay in this moment until its resolution. Whatever happens to me, do not feel sorry for me, for I am at peace and refuse to feel sorry for myself.
"Life happens. Deal with it.
"Some people cannot understand why I have returned, saying I should not come back here. KNOW THIS, and mark my words well — it would be absolutely intolerable for me to hide from this situation.
"I am an innocent man, but a family suffers the loss of a son, a fan of my band. That is what this whole thing is truly about, not prison, not money, not politics, not ME — it is about a young man who lost his life at just 19 years of age. He will never come back, and it breaks my heart. I would not be able to sleep at night knowing that I did not behave honorably and try to give his family some answers. That would be disgraceful, and I do not wish to dishonor myself or my family by acting in such a cowardly manner.
"I was raised to face my problems head on. For me, this is BEING A MAN.
"I categorically refuse to live in a constant state of guilt and fear. I would rather die.
"My morality and convictions are not dependent upon unforeseeable circumstance, nor malleable when difficulty arises.
"So I walk this morning to court with my head held high, no matter what others opinions of me may be. I have to face myself in the mirror, and tomorrow morning, where ever I may wake up, I will be able to do that without regret. This is THE ONLY path to true freedom for me — peace within myself. This is the manner in which I choose to try my best to live my life, and I hope you all do the same — do your best to do what is right, no matter how difficult it may be. I promise you, this will bring you peace.
"I thank you all for your support, I wish you all a good day, and to quote one of my favorite movies: STRENGTH AND HONOR."
The parents of the alleged victim are demanding compensation of 10 million Czech Koruna (approximately $530,000).

BUCKCHERRY Frontman: 'You've Just Got To Be The Real Deal In Whatever You're Doing'
BUCKCHERRY vocalist Josh Todd recently spoke to Music Radar about what it takes to be the "perfect" frontman.
"I think you've just got to be the real deal in whatever you're doing," he said. "I've got to believe it. The frontmen that I like are guys that had enough of an edge to them so guys would like them and they had enough flair so girls would like them. That, to me, is the perfect package for a frontman."
He continued: "I love Jim Morrison [of THE DOORS], and I also think Prince is amazing, and Stevie Wonder. I think Jim was really great with managing the mystery. He was great at pulling people in and then exploding on stage. He was the master of that. From what I've read about him, he would read books on crowd control. If you watch him perform he could be very subtle and then he'd just erupt. I like that. He was cool and sexual at times, but very masculine. He was just a great frontman and he wrote amazing lyrics.
"When I got more into rock music I was really into [late AC/DCsinger]Bon Scott. Bon had a very distinctive voice. He had a voice when you heard it you knew it was Bon Scott. Nobody could sing like him. He had a lot of soul too. He was a pretty humble guy and he didn't give a shit about flash or flair, he just came out in ripped up jeans and laid it down. I love [current AC/DC singer] Brian Johnson, too. We got to do five shows with them [in 2000] and it was our rock 'n' roll dreams come true for all of us. It was amazing. We got to hang out with all those guys in one room, and they were the most humble, nicest people. It pays off when you meet your heroes and they're super cool."
LZZY HALE Talks About Dueting With DAVID DRAIMAN On DEVICE's LITA FORD Cover
HALESTORMsingerLzzy Hale is one of many guests appearing on the self-titled debut album from DEVICE, the new industrial rock act led byDISTURBED frontman David Draiman. Hale, who duets with Draiman on a cover of the Ozzy Osbourne/Lita Fordsong"Close My Eyes Forever", told Artisan News (see video report below): "David Draiman has been such an amazing mentor over the years. I've always felt like a little sister in heavy metal to him. And we had talked about doing that song for years, and we just never had any time to do it. And so I kind of thought that he had forgotten all about it. And then I got a call one day and he was, like, 'I know you're on tour, but can we make this happen?' So I literally flew to New York and got into this tiny, little studio and we did it."
She added: "[David is] an amazing man. Talk about a hard-working band. DISTURBED has been around for so long and really got us into new metal."
Draiman previously stated about his collaboration with Hale on "Close My Eyes Forever": "For years I'd wanted to re-do 'Close My Eyes Forever' by Lita Ford and Ozzy Osbourne. I always thought it was a fantastic idea and needed the right combination of elements and events and needed to have the right woman to play the role of Lita in this song, and Lzzy Hale, in my opinion, is the strongest, most distinctive voice, female voice in rock today. I think that she's just as good as it gets."
In addition to Hale, the lineup of guests on the DEVICE disc includesAVENGED SEVENFOLD singer M. Shadows, SYSTEM OF A DOWNvocalist Serj Tankian, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist Tom Morello, BLACK SABBATH bassist Geezer Butler and ex-DEEP PURPLE bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes.
The set is due out on April 9, with a first single called "Vilify" arrived at radio stations last month.
Lenardo will not be part of the DEVICE touring band due to previous commitments.
Other members of the live lineup include EVANESCENCE drummer Will Hunt and DOPE guitarist Virus.
In a recent video interview with Artisan News Service, Draiman spoke about how DEVICE came together. "I was first approached by Geno Lenardo, who was working on a number of tracks for the 'Underworld'soundtrack for the last 'Underworld' film that came out… and he asked me if I would be interested in being a part of one of the tracks and I asked him to send me the music that he had in mind and I was able to make a really compelling and powerful song," he said. "[I] found that working with him as a songwriting partner was very easy and fluid. He's a very strong songwriter in his own right."

Green Day’s Mike Dirnt on Singer Armstrong’s Vegas Meltdown: “I Know That's Not Billie”
Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt has opened up about frontman Billie Joe Armstrong's meltdown at a Las Vegas music festival last September, which prompted Armstrong to enter rehab for substance abuse treatment. Dirnt says that while he agreed with what Armstrong said during the outburst, he knew that the singer wasn’t in a healthy state of mind.
“I know that's not Billie,” he tells Rolling Stone. “But I was watching my friend and going, ‘You're out of your f**king mind.’ And we were dealing with a s**tshow.”
The bassist notes that while the band had turned a “blind eye” to Armstrong’s substance abuse, after the incident, Dirnt confronted the singer about his behavior. “For me, it started off as concern for my friend,” he reveals. “Then it turned to anger. Sometimes you have a friend or loved one that needs you to shake them. They don't see a path out.”
Green Day will perform a set at the South by Southwest festival on March 15 before kicking off their rescheduled North American tour, which was postponed after Armstrong entered rehab, on March 28 at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL. Now that Armstrong is clean and sober, Dirnt adds that the band will be making some changes as to what will be offered up backstage at each stop on the tour.
“The backstage doesn't need to be a bar…and that's OK with me,” he explains. “My thing is, good, bad or ugly, I gotta support my boy. I'm gonna back him up, and then I'm going to take it the next step further with him. And we're gonna do it offstage, too.”
Members of Pearl Jam, Guns N’ Roses & Screaming Trees to Form New Band
Ex-Screaming Trees/Mad Season drummer Barrett Martin has revealed that he’s part of a new band which includes Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready and former Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan. Martin says that the idea to form a new group surfaced after he collaborated with McCready on tracks for the 2012 self-titled debut album of his side project with McKagan, Walking Papers.
“I had a whole bunch of song ideas and Mike had a whole bunch of song ideas and Duff had a whole bunch of song ideas that were not making it into Walking Papers,” he tellsBillboard. “We decided that we would go into the studio and record them.”
McCready adds that he’s still working on new material for the group’s debut album, as well as actively recruiting a number of singers to appear on the release. “We wrote some new stuff and we took some of those old Mad Season demos from that [unreleased] second Disinformation record, so we are trying to find something to do with those," he explains. "We're talking to Jaz [Coleman] from Killing Joke and I've been trying to find some singers to work on some of that stuff."
A release date for the band’s debut album has yet to be announced.
Stone Sour Gives Fans a Taste of Animated "Do Me a Favor" Video
Stone Sour wants to remind us that they’ve got a new video headed our way. The band recently posted an online trailer for “Do Me a Favor,” the first single from the upcoming, second installment of their House of Gold & Bones concept album. The 45-second animated clip features a few quick scenes of a cloaked figure that appears to be running from a group of zombies.
Frontman Corey Taylor recently told ABC News Radio that the upcoming video will include some unique special effects and will be “very much like a mini-movie.” While a firm release date for the video has yet to be announced, it's expected to be released in the coming weeks. House of Gold & Bones Part 2 is set to arrive in stores on April 9. You’ll be able to get your hands on the first issue of a comic book mini-series based on the double album starting April 17.
Members of Motörhead, Filter, Chickenfoot Among Stars Set to Perform at Upcoming L.A. Benefit Concert
A bevy of hard-rocking musicians will team up to play at a benefit concert for ailing music publicist Nancy Sayle that's scheduled to take place March 27 at the famous Whisky a Go Go club in Los Angeles. Blabbermouth.net reports that the Rock Against MS show will feature Motörheadfrontman Lemmy Kilmister, Filter bassist Phil Buckman, Chickenfoot touring drummerKenny Aronoff, founding Guns N' Roses drummer Steven Adler, former Ramonesdrummer Marky Ramone, Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Rob "Blasko" Nicholson, and drummer Ginger Fish and guitarist John 5 from Rob Zombie's band. The music industry veteran also has been battling multiple sclerosis since 2009.

"Trenches", the new single from Grand Rapids, Michigan hard rockers POP EVIL, is available for streaming on the band's Facebook page. The song comes off the band's new full-length album, "Onyx", which is due out on May 14.
The message of "Trenches" applies to the world of art as well as the world of sports, the military, or anyone struggling with the economic downturn, like POP EVIL's home state of Michigan.
"It's about our battles," POP EVIL frontman Leigh Kakaty says. "Not focusing on the things we can't control, if we really want to be a band that stands the test of time we have to write the music that connects. We have to dig our way out of the trenches."
During a slump in the music industry, POP EVIL is living proof that you can still make a living following your dreams. "It's a matter of time before rock and roll is in the forefront again and we want to be part of that," Kakatysays.
STONE SOUR: Trailer For 'Do Me A Favor' Video
A trailer for "Do Me A Favor", the new video from STONE SOUR, can be seen below. The clip was directed by Phil Mucci, whose video for HIGH ON FIRE's "Fertile Green" was named best video of 2012 by Revolver. The song is the first single from "House Of Gold & Bones - Part 2", the second part of the band's two-album series, "House of Gold & Bones", which will be released on April 9 via Roadrunner Records. The albums were recorded at Sound Farm Studios just outside of the band's native Des Moines, Iowa with producer David Bottrill (TOOL, MUSE) at the helm.
"Do Me A Favor", was made available digitally on February 12. SingerCorey Taylor gave The Pulse Of Radio a preview of what to expect from the song.
"House Of Gold & Bones - Part 2" track listing:
01. Red City
02. Black John
03. Sadist
04. Peckinpah
05. Stalemate
06. Gravesend
07. '82

09. Blue Smoke
10. Do Me A Favor
11. The Conflagration
12. The House Of Gold & Bones
Plus, it's got some of our best songs on it.
"You guys think part one's good? Fuck off. 'Do Me A Favor' alone is going to kick the shit out of people and that's going to be the first single, which comes out in January, that's going to be the first taste that people get of part 2, and people aren't going to know what to do."

Scott Weiland: My STP Firing Was Just a Marketing Ploy
Depending on the source, Scott Weiland is either still a member of Stone Temple Pilotsor the band's former singer.
Weiland himself insists that STP is fully intact. He tells TMZ.com, "STP is not broken up. It's a whole thing to try to boost ticket sales," referring to a purported tour his band mates were organizing without him.
Weiland further argues to TMZ that the band's contract forbids potential future incarnations of the group from using the STP name. Therefore, he believes, there's no way he's been fired.
As for the future of the on-hiatus supergroup Velvet Revolver, Weiland tells Rolling Stone"it's not something I can count on," but he's definitely game for reuniting with guitaristSlash, bassist Duff McKagan, guitarist Dave Kushner and drummer Matt Sorum.
"It would be a great thing," Weiland says in an interview with Rolling Stone. "I know the fans would love to see it."
For the time being, however, Weiland says he's focused on a solo career and working with his backing band The Wildabouts. They've recorded nearly 30 songs that he describes as "really lean and raw, sort of like garage rock."
Weiland and the The Wildabouts will launch a tour Friday night in Michigan. He'll be performing STP’s first two albums, 1992’s Core and 1994’s Purple, during the tour.

Pearl Jam's Mike McCready Sheds Light on Abandoned Second Mad Season Album
There were definite plans to record a second Mad Season album, says Pearl Jamguitarist Mike McCready about his side project with Alice in Chains singer Layne Staleyand Screaming Trees singer Mark Lanegan.
But that album, christened Disinformation, was never finished because Staley and bassistJohn Baker Saunders -- both users of heroin -- "were getting hard to get a hold of," McCready tells Billboard.
Says McCready, "You can only try so long before you kind of go, 'OK, we need to move on or figure something else out.'" Saunders died of an overdose in 1999, followed by Staley in 2002.
Three songs from the Disinformation sessions that were recently completed by Lanegan will appear on a deluxe reissue of Mad Season's only studio album, Above. The three-disc edition is due April 2. McCready refers to his guitar solo in the unreleased song "Slip Away" as "my pain of how this whole thing was all falling apart when Baker and Layne were dying."

Alter Bridge to Start Recording Fourth Studio Album in April
Guitarist Mark Tremonti says about five songs have been "outlined" for a new Alter Bridge album, which the band plans to record starting in late April.
He describes the material as "real fun rock/metal," telling Billboard, "We want to not be predictable; we want to make it a little surprising, and we're having fun with it."
Tremonti adds that Alter Bridge plans to wrap up recording its fourth album in the summer and begin touring in September. For the time being, he is focused on playing shows with his own band -- billed simply as Tremonti -- in support of All I Was, his first solo album.
"It's definitely keeping me on my toes, especially having to keep re-creating new sounds for each band," Tremonti says.
