Brandon Marshall of Denver Westword recently conducted an interview with rocker-turned-filmmaker Rob Zombie. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
Denver Westword: What's your favorite classic movie monster?
Rob: I think my favorite is Frankenstein's monster, probably because it's so iconic. I think when I was a little kid, I would have said King Kong. But I think Frankenstein, just because I loved everything about it. The design is the most classic design. It just seems like Hollywood to me. If you think Hollywood, you think, you know, Groucho Marx, Marilyn Monroe and Frankenstein. Also, I like the character. Even in my movies I always want to make the monsters... That was my whole pitch for my remake of "Halloween" my take on it. I always saw him asFrankenstein.
Denver Westword: Your shows are obviously a big, multimedia affair. How hands-on are you with that side of your performances?
Rob: Well, I'm hands-on with everything. Even right now the only reason I'm doing this interview while I'm driving is that I'm driving out to where the new stage props are being built so I can okay them before they start getting really finished. But yeah, I'm involved with everything. Every little tiny thing has exactly got to be the way I want. Not that I don't have really talented people working with me to make it all happen. I don't want to take away from [their contribution]. But it's 100 percent my vision of what it's supposed to be. There's nobody else I can turn to. They all look at me.
Denver Westword: Clearly, performing live is vastly different from making a film, but how would you compare the logistics and process of putting together a live show versus a film?
Rob: The similarities with making a movie is that you're the boss and you have a huge crew of people — and it's a job. It's a great job, but it's a job. I would say with anything, the fish stinks from the head down. So they're only going to work as hard and be as organized as you are. And I have to run everything super-organized and make it work. To me, nothing matters but the show. I'm not on tour to party and to fuck around because I don't want to hurt the show. The show has to be excellent all the time. Nobody wants to go see your show and you suck and hear about how much fun you had backstage. Nobody pays fifty bucks so you can have fun backstage. They want the show to be amazing. That's all I care about. That's all anybody cares about. And if the people that work with me don't care about it, I replace them with someone that does. That's the way it should be, right?
METALLICA Pays Tribute To Fallen Bassist With Free Concert Download
On the 26th anniversary of METALLICA bassist Cliff Burton's death, the surviving members of the band have paid tribute to their fallen friend, who was killed in a bus crash in 1986.
METALLICA posted a photo of Cliff on the band's official Facebook page accompanied by the caption "We miss you" before adding, "While you're remembering Cliff on the 26th anniversary of his passing, give a listen to this free download from the 'Ride The Lightning' tour."
METALLICA's entire November 22, 1984 concert at at Le Riff in Toulouse, France is available at this location.
Burton, best known as a heavy metal bass player who made use of distortion and special effects, was killed in an accident on September 27, 1986 at the age of 24, four years after joining METALLICA. It wasBurton's early influence that helped create METALLICA's unique musical style for which the band has become famous.
Burton's huge talent and achievements were chronicled in book form with the 2009 global publication of "To Live Is To Die: The Life And Death Of Metallica's Cliff Burton", written by U.K.-based author Joel McIver and published by Jawbone Press. The foreword has been provided by Cliff's close friend in METALLICA, Kirk Hammett. Other interviewees who spoke to McIver for this book, many for the first time on the public record, include Cliff's bass teacher Steve Doherty; legendary reporter and photographer Brian Lew; Bay Area headbanger Harald Oimoen, the subject of "The Ballad Of Harald O" by the infamous SPASTIK CHILDREN, in which Cliff played; that band's frontman Fred Cotton;EXODUS founder Gary Holt; the Metal Blade label founder Brian Slagel; photographer Ross Halfin; Cliff's first guitar tech Chuck Martin;METALLICA's first fanclub manager KJ Doughton; "Ride The Lightning"and "Master Of Puppets" producer Flemming Rasmussen; the last reporter to interview Cliff, Jörgen Holmstedt; roadie and ex-METAL CHURCH guitarist John Marshall, who was also in the bus crash which killed Burton; Lennart Wennberg, the photographer at the scene of the crash; and Cliff's girlfriend for the last year of his life, Corinne Lynn.
After Kirk Hammett's foreword, separate introductions are provided by a range of musicians influenced by Burton, including Mikael Åkerfeldt(OPETH), Alex Webster (CANNIBAL CORPSE), Alex Skolnick(TESTAMENT), Dave Ellefson (F5/ex-MEGADETH) and a host of other musicians and writers.
An Italian-language documentary on Burton can be seen in two parts below. According to Overkill.pl, the film was produced by the ItalianMETALLICA chapter ZonaMetallica and was shown for the first time last year at Rock'n'Roll Arena in Romagnano Sesia (near Novara) at a ZonaMetallica party.

Green Day Drummer's Ex-Wife Says Frontman Armstrong's Vegas Rant Was Caused by Heavy Drinking
It appears that alcohol may be to blame for Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong’s profanity-filled tirade at last weekend's iHeart Radio music festival in Las Vegas. Claudia Suarez Wright, the ex-wife of drummer Tré Cool, says that Armstrong -- who'd been sober for about a year -- had reportedly been drinking heavily during his time in Sin City.
“When he was in Vegas he was drinking a lot,” Suarez tells Celebuzz. “The night of the show he had been drinking. In Las Vegas there's a lot of temptation to drink and it's tough to be around when you're fighting against it. They have a new album coming out and it's a demanding lifestyle. It's very difficult."
The day after the Las Vegas incident, Armstrong apologized for his behavior and announced that he would to be heading to rehab to seek treatment for substance abuse.
Stone Sour Talks “Insane” House of Gold & Bones Recording Sessions with Skid Row’s Rachel Bolan
Stone Sour enlisted Skid Row bassist Rachel Bolan to play on their upcoming double album, House of Gold & Bones, following the recent departure of former bassist and founding member Shawn Economaki. So far, it seems a good match. Guitarist Josh Rand says that Bolan only needed a few days with them in the studio because he was able to lay down the tracks in record time.
“He came in, a super-cool guy and did all 24 songs in five days,” Rand tells Metal Shrine. “I don’t think people realize how great of a player he is. It was just insane to watch him knock these songs out.”
Rand noted that Bolan also helped contribute to the songwriting process during the House of Gold & Bones recording sessions. “[Bolan]’s a phenomenal writer on top of being a phenomenal bass player and he brought this style into it that we felt had been lacking,” explains the guitarist. “Instead of following the guitars, he actually plays bass and it elevated all of the songs to a whole new level.”
Rand added that due to his commitments with Skid Row, Bolan won’t be able to tour with Stone Sour to promote the album. He did, however, reveal that fans can expect to seeCavalera Conspiracy bassist Johny Chow on stage with Stone Sour for their upcoming world tour. House of Gold & Bones Part 1 will hit all the usual outlets on October 23. The second installment, House of Gold & Bones Part 2, is expected to be released sometime next year.

IN THIS MOMENT's 'Blood' Is Best-Selling Single Of All Time For CENTURY MEDIA RECORDS
After being one of the most talked-about acts at this year's Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival, IN THIS MOMENT can add another accolade to the list: the top-selling single of all time for longtime labelCentury Media Records. "Blood", the title track of the Southern Calfornia band's latest album, has sold upwards of 75,000 units since its release a few months ago. The song continues to move an additional 5,000 copies per week and shows no signs of slowing down.
IN THIS MOMENT will embark on a new tour in mid-October. The first set of dates for the explosive quintet will be headlining, while the shows beginning in mid-November will find IN THIS MOMENT supportingHALESTORM.
In radio news, "Blood" is rapidly approaching the Top 10 at Active Rock radio, with stations such as WRIF/Detroit, WJJO/Madison and KQXR/Boise all spinning the album.
"Blood", the album, recently bowed at #15 on The Billboard 200 chart, selling upwards of 20,000 units in its first week. This marked the band's highest album chart debut ever, with nearly double the first-week sales of their previous release, 2010's "A Star Crossed Wasteland".
Produced by Kevin Churko (OZZY OSBOURNE, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH), "Blood" is IN THIS MOMENT's fourth album for Century Media.
IN THIS MOMENT began work on the new CD just a few months following the departures of drummer Jeff Fabb and guitarist Blake Bunzel, who left the band late last year in order to join the backing group of "AmericanIdol" finalist James Durbin. Fabb and Bunzel have since been replaced by Tom Hane (THYATEIRA) and Randy Weitzel (FLATLINE, 3/13,AMERICAN MASSACRE), respectively.
PAPA ROACH Frontman On Vocal Surgery: 'It's Healing Really Well'
California rockers PAPA ROACH last month officially dropped off theRockstar Energy Uproar Festival after just one week, with singerJacoby Shaddix needing surgery to remove a nodule on his vocal cord.Shaddix was diagnosed earlier this summer and attempted to take care of it without an operation.
In a new interview with Loudwire, Shaddix says that the surgery was a success and that he should be back on the stage in the very near future.
"Recovery is going really good," Shaddix said. "It was a little tough in the beginning; I couldn't talk at all so that sucked. It was the longest silence of my life since I was born; I just wanted to talk so bad.”
He added, "[I] went to the first doctor's appointment, all good. Went to another one yesterday and the doctor said I could start warming up. It was funny because they put a camera down my nose and down my throat to look down there and they couldn't see which side they operated on because it had healed so well. They had to go back and look at the 'before' pictures, so that's a god sign. It's healing really well."
Asked if there will be a long-term impact on his singing voice, Shaddixsaid, "I don't think so. I'll find out exactly how my voice sounds in the next few weeks. Anything is better than what it was, though, because it was fucking terrible. I'm good."
The throat problems follow a tough period during which Shaddix split and reconciled with his wife of 15 years and also fell off the wagon.
PAPA ROACH's new album, "The Connection", which will be released on October 2 via Eleven Seven Music. The CD was recorded at the band's hometown studio, The Red House in Sacramento, California, and was produced by rock veteran James Michael (SIXX: A.M., HALESTORM) and John Feldmann (PANIC AT THE DISCO, THE USED, ESCAPE THE FATE).
JOHN CONNOLLY Talks PROJECTED Debut, Future Of SEVENDUST
Bob Zerull of Zoiks! Online recently conducted an interview withSEVENDUST guitarist John Connolly about John's side projectPROJECTED, which also features SEVENDUST bassist Vince Hornsby andCREED/ALTER BRIDGE drummer Scott Phillips. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
Zoiks! Online: I was checking out yourwebsite and it seems likePROJECTED started as a bunch of friends getting together having a good time that turned into something more. Is that about right?
John Connolly: Pretty much. I don't want to say we set the bar low, but we said we're just going to go in here and have fun with this. We had a bunch of songs lying around that we wanted to take in. Originally, it was just going to be me going in there and doing most everything. The more we talked about it and the more we got together a game plan and studio time, the more we kind of started talking about, "Hey, Scott, remember ten years ago when we first talked about doing that thing, that side project? Well, what are you doing in March?" [laughs] Literally, it was pretty much that. Erock [Eric Friedman] was like, "Hey, man I want to get in on this." I had already talked to Vinnie about doing it, because we knew that [fellow SEVENDUST members] Morgan [Rose] and Clint[Lowery] were going to be doing CALL ME NO ONE. It literally came together, for lack of a better description and explanation for how it really happened. It wasn't like I sat down and said, here is my top fifty drummers that I'm going to go after, here's my top 25 guitar players — it wasn't that at all. It was just us saying, "Hey, man, let's just go in and do what we always said we were going to do." I think the end result at the end of the day surprised us just as much as it surprised everyone else.
Zoiks! Online: You're taking on the vocal duties. How difficult of a transition is it to be a frontman?
John Connolly: You know, it's hard to describe. I think the first thing that you go through is the acceptance that there's no one to hide behind. WithSEVENDUST it's, like, let LJ [Witherspoon] do his thing and I'll duck in back there and stay out of the way a little bit. With PROJECTED, all of the sudden, it's, like, "Wow, the sound of your voice is what is going to carry this whole deal." Coming to terms with that is an interesting thing. First of all, you have the fact that you've never done it. Then throw in the fact that we're going to record at home, too. Let's do it in probably the worst environment we could possibly be doing it in. [laughs] It's nice and convenient to be able to do it when you want to do it, but you have theUPS guy unloading stuff, you've got lawnmowers in the background, dogs barking, 'Just Dance 3' blending in a little bit. You throw all those things in the mix and you hang on and ask, is it doable? What do we have here that works? But yeah, it's tricky, it's a lot of different learning processes, but it's definitely a cool experience to actually step out and say where is my voice, what is my voice.
Zoiks! Online: On your website, in the "About The Band" section, you mention how it was nice to work with no pressure, no preconceived expectations. There's been talk that the next SEVENDUST record could be the last, and if the band does decide to call it a day, how much of it do you think would be due to the music industry and the business side just sucking all the fun out of your art?
John Connolly: If that were the case, that would be the reason. In all honesty… Obviously, you can look around and you can't say it's not because they don't want to make music, because they're making music in different bands now. [laughs] That drive is still there, the thirst and the hunger to actually just make new music regardless of what it says at the end of the day. If it ever ended up being where SEVENDUST called it quits, it would be because of that very reason, the fact that we couldn't find a way to make it work on the business side of things. I mean, for us, in all honesty, that is our biggest struggle. It's never a musical thing that's a struggle. It's just a lot of it comes down to the business stuff. To be quite honest with you, we just went through our last major change about five or six months ago and things are starting to look positive. We made a few key changes in the off time. I don't want to say that we will or we won't. I don't really intend on it, but you never know. As we get older and everyone tries new things. I think SEVENDUST will be something that will always be there if we choose to do it. Not saying this is the last record, but if it were the last record, it'd probably only be for a minute; I don't know that we would ever call it up forever. We get asked that question a lot because we had discussed, maybe we should do one more full album, one more full cycle and then not really take a break, but do what we did this time, we went and made a PROJECTED record, did a CALL ME NO ONE record. It would be kind of nice if at some point in time we could spend a little time on those things. Those are the only things that I think would call for us hitting the pause button again. It's the five of us, which is kind of a strange situation to be in. Fifteen years ago, class of 1997, how many bands are still all together, the original five guys? I'm, like, "Holy shit!" We really do enjoy each other's company. We're just excited to get back into the studio and make music again. This break has been, even though we worked on music and did side projects and different things, it's different. When you're writing for SEVENDUST, you're writing forSEVENDUST. It's hard to explain. I know what's PROJECTED and I know what's SEVENDUST. I wouldn't say that this is the last.
SOIL Singer Says Next Album Will Pick Up Where 'Redefine' Left Off
On September 25, Jake Serd and Ken Kirby of 94.9 K-Rock recently conducted an interview with ex-DROWNING POOL and current SOILvocalist Ryan McCombs.
Asked about his relationship with his former DROWNING POOL bandmates less than a year since he exited the group, McCombs said, "We ended things very… We were all just burnt out, and at the time they didn't even know… Once we talked about the fact that I was stepping away, they didn't even know whether they were going to do another record. I'm glad that they did, because they're just a great group of guys. We [SOIL andDROWNING POOL] actually did a festival together a couple of months ago in Michigan, which ended in just the typical — me, Stevie [Benton, bass] and C.J. [Pierce, guitar] getting completely obliterated together. So things are really good. I mean, there's no animosity, no hard feelings."
McCombs also spoke about SOIL's future plans, including the release of a new studio album, which is tentatively scheduled for next year. Several songs have already been written for te effort, which the singer says will "pick up where [2004's] 'Redefine' left off. I love the material that we're writing, and that's the feeling that I get from it," he said. "At the same time, ['Redefine' came out] seven years ago, so I'm sure there's gonna be some change."
He continued, "A lot of fans I ran into on the road just in the past few weeks made comments that they felt like, you had [2001's] 'Scars' and you had 'Redefine' and then really… I'm not dissing anything. The [otherSOIL] guys, I think, put out two really good albums [with another singer] after I left. But it's just the way… Usually, when people listen to music, it's kind of the voice that catches people's ears. I'm not putting myself up on [a pedestal] by saying that, but at the same time, it's just kind of the reality of the business. So people were saying how it was kind of like those next two DROWNING POOL albums [with me on vocals] were… that was the follow-up to the first two SOIL records as far as that vocal sound. And I think this [new SOIL CD] is just gonna be the next one in line.
"I love the material we're doing and it's feeling good. I hope the people that loved 'Scars' and 'Redefine' see that natural progression."
SOIL will support FOZZY on a nine-date U.K. tour launching November 27 in Stoke, England and wrapping up December 6 in Brighton, England. The tour marks both bands' first return to the United Kingdom since highly successful appearances at this year's Download festival. The tour will also feature the U.K.'s own BREED 77.
SOIL released its first-ever DVD, entitled "Re-LIVE-Ing The Scars", on May 8 via Bieler Bros. Records. The two-disc set, which was recorded live on October 14, 2011 at Electric Ballroom in London, England, contains an audio CD version of the same concert. Also included is over one hour of backstage and behind-the-scenes bonus footage and photos.
SOIL's recording lineup for "Re-LIVE-Ing The Scars" consisted of founding members Ryan McCombs (vocals; ex-DROWNING POOL), Tim King (bass) and Adam Zadel (guitar) alongside former STAIND drummerJon Wysocki.

A Des Moines, Iowa doctor was charged on September 5 with involuntary manslaughter because he allegedly over-prescribed painkillers to eight of his patients — one of whom was SLIPKNOT bassist Paul Gray, who died of a drug overdose in May 2010.
Gray was found dead at the age of 38 in a hotel room outside Des Moines, surrounded by drug paraphernalia. His death was ruled an accidental overdose of morphine and fentanyl, with his autopsy showing that Grayalso suffered from significant heart disease.
Gray's widow, Brenna, revealed in an April 2011 interview with Revolverthat her husband had agreed to get help for his drug problem just one day before he died on May 24, 2010.
After a lengthy hiatus, SLIPKNOT resumed touring last year, with Donnie Steele playing bass live. The band intends to enter a recording studio sometime in 2013 to begin work on its first album without Gray.

"She found out about it through Facebook, which is the most impersonal way to receive this intensely personal news," Sanchez tellsRolling Stone. MATT SORUM On GREEN DAY Frontman's Rant: It Was 'The Most Punk Rock Thing He Has Ever Done'
Former GUNS N' ROSES and current VELVET REVOLVER drummer Matt Sorum says that GREEN DAY frontman Billie Joe Armstrong's profanity-filled tirade at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas last Friday (September 21) was "the most punk rock thing he has ever done." ButSorum added via Twitter, "Then [Billy] had to go and ruin it by apologizing. Corporate rock is alive and well. Never really bought that band anyway."
Armstrong exploded after his band's set was cut from 45 minutes to 25, and he was given a signal halfway through their seventh song that they had one minute left. After screaming for two minutes at promoters, he smashed his guitar and left the stage.
A statement was issued on Sunday (September 23), apologizing for the incident and stating that a number of other promotional appearances by the band would be canceled while Armstrong sought help.
Billie Joe delivered the induction speech for GUNS N' ROSES at this past April's Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame ceremony in Cleveland, Ohio, saying, "The first time I saw GUNS N' ROSES on MTV, I thought, 'One of these guys could end up dead or in jail,'" He raved about "Appetite For Destruction", calling it "the best debut album in the history of rock and roll."

Deftones Frontman Says Bassist Vega “Totally Invigorated” Songwriting Process for Koi No Yokan
It appears that Deftones fans should be thanking bassist Sergio Vega for the band's upcoming album, Koi No Yokan. Frontman Chino Moreno says that Vega’s positive attitude was the inspiration the band needed to begin working on songs for the forthcoming release. Vega joined the veteran act in 2009.
"When he came in, he was excited,” the singer tells Rolling Stone. “It's definitely kicked some life into this whole thing, and we really appreciate him for that. If it hadn't been for Sergio as a person, and as the bass player he is, I don't foresee us sitting here right now talking about a Deftones record. He totally invigorated the whole thing, and still continues to every day." Koi No Yokan is due in stores on November 13. Before the album is released, the band will hit the road for a headlining tour to promote it. That outing begins on October 9 at the Ventura Theatre in Ventura, CA. Scars on Broadway, a side project of System of a Down guitarist Daron Malakian, will support the band on all the dates.

The oversized 228-page hardback book documentsHammett's love of all things related to the horror genre and features more than 300 photos of items from the collection of horror memorabilia he has accumulated over the years. The book also includes three lengthy interviews with Hammett, who also wrote the captions for many of the photos.
Hammett told the Chronicle, "I've been into [horror] stuff since I was five years old . . . My love for this stuff is insane and totally obsessive-compulsive. It's just one of those things. I'm still waiting to outgrow it or get tired of it or get bored with it. But it does not seem to happen."
The guitarist figures that he may have the second best horror memorabilia collection in the world, but until now only his family and close friends have seen it.
Hammett has two young children and he has been slowly showing them the monster movies he grew up on. He explained, "The other day (my kids and I) watched 'Bride Of Frankenstein', and they loved it."
He added that during a recent viewing of "Ghostbusters", "I said to the younger one, 'This is a little scary, but I'll be sitting right next to you.' And he goes, 'You don't have to do that, Dad. I'm tough.'"
SLIPKNOT's SID WILSON Replaces KORN's JONATHAN DAVIS On 'Twins Of Evil' Tour
SLIPKNOTDJSid Wilson will replace J DEVIL, the nefarious DJ alter ego of KORN frontman Jonathan Davis, as the opening act on the ROB ZOMBIE and MARILYNMANSON co-headlining "Twins Of Evil" tour. Daviscanceled his participation in the trek after doctors ordered him to refrain from any travel and performing for the next few weeks while he recuperates from exhaustion following his recent eight-week overseas tour with KORN.
The "Twins Of Evil" tour is scheduled to kick off on September 28 in Phoenix, Arizona.
In a recent interview, Wilson spoke about how he wanted SLIPKNOT to be different from a lot of the nü-metal bands using turntables in the late 1990s. "I'm a musician," he said. "A lot of times, people don't respect the turntable as being a musical instrument, or a turntablist as a musician, but that's because they don't know enough about how the sound manipulation is occurring. You can create notes by how fast or how slow, how long or how short the movements are on the record. You can make the sounds last as long as you want, and you can create very subtle degrees of manipulation. You can create the same range of manipulation with a turntable as you could with a guitar. There's all the same factors involved — how long you hold the note, how hard you hit the string; how fast or how slow you move your hands. All these same factors apply to scratching on a turntable. My thing is to always approach it as making the turntable part an element of the song, instead of, you know, the 'featured DJ' part … The turntable should complement everything else that's going on in the music. It shouldn't be like a solo part — for me, it wasn't about the spotlight. The attention might have been on me at that moment, but it was really about doing something that's going to push the groove of the song a little bit further."
Wilson's debut solo album, "Sid", was released in September 2011 viaiTunes and other Internet retailers. The CD featured Wilson on lead vocals and saw him departing from his usual role as a DJ in both SLIPKNOTand as DJ Starscream.
SERJ TANKIAN Slams MITT ROMNEY, PAUL RYAN
During a recent interview with American Rock Scene, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, poet and political activist Serj Tankian, shared his views on the upcoming presidential election. Speaking about the two-party system that dominates American politics, Tankian said, "Here's the thing: if you want more choices, you have to create more choices. We need more parties, and that's been the case for many, many years. Even the communist party of the Soviet Union had two sides of the same coin; they had kind of a liberal side and a conservative side, they were kind of like two parties, kind of like the Democrats and Republicans, in different ways, obviously. But I point that out just to say that with two parties, it's not much of a democracy. But what makes it less of a democracy is money in politics, the K Street lobbying firms and groups like Citizens United, who make corporations into people."
He continued, "The real problem isn't just the choice of candidates, it's what's happening around it. The money in there. The electoral system. We really need a healthy left-wing party in this country like the Green Party or — I'm down to start a socialist party because President Obama is not socialist. The Republicans are calling him socialist and I'm like, 'Come on.' The guy made legislation where you have to buy insurance from private entities. That's not socialism, there's no public option. Most of his policies are centrist, just to the right of center, sometimes left of center. That's not socialism, but apparently, America has no idea what socialism is."
Asked what he thinks about the religious beliefs of the candidates, Serjsaid, "I'm not as concerned about the candidate religious beliefs as I am their policies. Mitt Romney's policies are… Well, first of all, he's gone back and forth between so many different policies. First he supported health care in Massachusetts, and then he turned a 360 and said, 'I don't like it anymore. I was wrong. Everything I thought, was wrong, I repudiate.' He's just trying to get the right-wingers on his side, but ultimately they are failed policies of the past. It hasn't worked for America. It's left us in debt, it's left us in wars. And the fact that he actually even said that he doesn't care about 47 percent of America. I would fucking toss him off the ticket now. That's offensive. His answer was that it wasn't a classy way of explaining it, [but] he didn't even refute it. He admitted saying those things."
Serj also spoke about Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan, who was blasted by RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE's Tom Morello in an op-ed piece for Rolling Stone after Ryan listed the guitarist's band as one of his favorites, despite their hardcore leftist leanings.
"[Ryan] didn't use RAGE's music, but he said he was a big fan," Serj said. "And I actually think he does like it, but the thing is he never actually paid attention to the lyrics. He never paid attention to what they are trying to say with the songs and what they stand for. And that's kind of scary, because if you don't know what RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE stands for in the United States of America, where the fuck have you been?"
He continued, "I was on the East Coast on tour with SYSTEM [OF A DOWN], and I read what Tom had posted and I e-mailed Tom and said, 'Bravo. That's one of the most beautiful things I've ever read this year.' The way he put it was so incredible. He could have just said, 'You should not like my music because we don't stand for that,' but he literally laid into him, and I was like, 'Fucking beautiful!'"

Green Day Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong Heading to Rehab
Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong is headed to rehab.
In a statement provided to ABC News Radio, the band's management announced Sunday, "Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong is seeking treatment for substance abuse."
The announcement comes following an angry outburst by Armstrong at Saturday's iHeart Radio festival in Las Vegas. The 40-year-old singer stopped a song in mid-performance and delivered a profane protest against the band's performance time allegedly being cut short, repeatedly referring to a countdown clock that read "one minute." Armstrong ultimately declares, "Let me show you what one f**kin' minute f**kin' means," then smashes his guitar into the stage floor until it breaks, after which he stalks off the stage. Video of Armstrong's outburst has since been widely posted online.
"Green Day would like everyone to know that their set was not cut short," Sunday's statement continues, "and to apologize to those they offended..." The statement concludes with, "The band regretfully must postpone some of their upcoming promotional appearances."
Green Day is currently promoting their new album Uno, which hits retailers on Tuesday.

You can vote for your favorite setlist now at Metallica.com, but you better hurry: voting ends on Monday at 9 a.m. PT. While an official release date for the DVD has yet to be announced, you can expect the two-disc set to arrive in stores in early December.

I'd like to do something that's not driven by loud guitars, I love the aggression they bring, but I'd like to try something out."
Lee will soon have time to work on some new material. The singer recently announced that she plans to take some time off after Evanescence wraps up their world tour supporting their 2011 self-titled album.

ROB ZOMBIE And Wife Discuss 'The Lords Of Salem' Movie In New Video Interview
Damnit Maurie of "The Roz & Mocha Show" on Toronto, Ontario, Canada's KISS 92.5 radio station conducted an interview with Rob Zombie and Rob's wife, Sheri Moon Zombie, after the September 10 world premiere of Rob's new movie, "The Lords Of Salem", at theToronto International Film Festival. You can now watch the chat below.
Zombie's fifth live-action feature , "The Lords Of Salem" was screened for critics, the public and potential distributors at the Toronto International Film Festival. The Playlist called it Zombie's "most accomplished," "most ambitious" and "most unnerving" film, althoughBloody Disgusting labeled the low-budget movie a disappointment, saying Zombie's script was "littered with problems" and questioning his decision to cast his wife Sheri Moon Zombie as the lead.
The plot of the film deals with a curse placed 300 years ago on the residents of Salem by a coven of witches who were put to death, and how that curse returns to terrorize the city's modern-day inhabitants.
Zombie told The Pulse Of Radio that just like on his other films, the script for "The Lords Of Salem" went through changes even as he was filming it. "You know, sometimes you have a script and things change," he said. "You think, 'Oh, this character is going to be really important' or that actor, but it doesn't really come off that way. But then another character that was sort of in the background moves to the foreground, and rather than fight it, I will change it if I feel that it's better. So yeah, there's tons of things changed — I mean, if anyone read the script, there's like almost no relation, almost."
There is no release date yet for the movie, which Zombie made in collaboration with the producers of the "Paranormal Activity" franchise.
Zombie has also been working on his first new album since 2010's"Hellbilly Deluxe 2". The new, yet-to-be-titled CD is set for a late 2012 release.
His "Twins Of Evil" co-headlining tour with MARILYN MANSON begins on October 1 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
DEFTONES Frontman Says Newly Released Song Is 'Not That Easy Of A Listen'
DEFTONES have released a new song called "Leathers" at the band's official web site, deftones.com, as a limited-time freedownload. The track is taken from the group's seventh album, "Koi No Yokan", which comes out on November 13 and follows up 2010's "Diamond Eyes". The first official single from the set, called "Tempest", will be sent to radiostations in early October.
A one-and-a-half-minute video clip on which DEFTONES vocalist Chino Moreno and bassist Sergio Vega talk about "Leathers" can be seen below.
"That song, in particular, I think is cool, because there's a lot of parts to that song," Moreno said. "And it's not that easy of a listen either. I think it's one of the ones that, the more you hear it, the more you'll get out it. . . I think it's an interesting choice for the first thing for people to hear off a record."
The new disc is the second recorded with Vega filling in for Chi Cheng, who remains in a semi-comatose state as a result of a November 2008 car accident. Moreno told The Pulse Of Radio that Vega stepped up as a songwriter on "Koi No Yokan". "This is our second time writing with him, so... obviously the 'Diamond Eyes' record was the first thing, but even that, I still feel like, you know, he was, that was his first kind of part of being in the band and although he wrote a lot on that record and did a great job, I think he really came out of his shell a lot more in this writing process."
The album's title is a Japanese term that, while not directly translatable to English, essentially means "love at first sight."
"Koi No Yokan" track listing:
01. Poltergeist
02. Romantic Dreams
03. Leathers
04. Swerve City
05. Entombed
06. Graphic Nature
07. Tempest
08. Gauze
09. Rosemary
10. Goon Squad
11. What Happened To You?
DEFTONES will support the new CD with a nationwide headlining tour which kicks off on October 9 in Ventura, California. Prior to that, the group will play at the Epicenter festival in Irvine, California on Saturday (September 22) and the Aftershock festival in Sacramento, California on Sunday (September 23).
'Randy Rhoads' Book Author Discusses Unreleased Footage Of Late OZZY OSBOURNE Guitarist
Lambchops, the admin for the Randy Rhoads Society on Facebookrecently conducted an interview with Andrew Klein, co-author of the newbook about legendary guitarist Randy Rhoads, simply entitled "Randy Rhoads". A few excerpt from the chat follow below.
Randy Rhoads Society: What did you learn about Randy from your research?
Andrew Klein: He was much more of a romantic than I ever knew or realized. He would go out of his way to do something special for those who he cared about. When he and Jodi [Raskin-Vigier, Randy Rhoads' fiancée] spent their first Christmas in England together, he didn't just want to go buy a tree. He wanted to go and cut down his own tree! It was then that he surprised her with an engagement ring. It was Christmas 1980. He used to mail Lori Hollen little personal items he chose to buy or make for her, rather than just randomly grab something quick in a gift shop. He put a lot of thought into it when he purchased a gift for you or made a gift for you. I never knew how artsy he was. He was an incredible artist. I've seen a lot of the pictures he drew and things he made for people. When he would mail letters, he would draw funny pictures of people he knew. He was amazing at doing those kinds of things with his hands. You look at this stuff and you can see that he had a lot of depth to his soul and he was a very patient person who cared about his friends.
Randy Rhoads Society: We have heard there is a pro-shot Randyshowfrom New Jersey at the Capitol Theatre. Who owns this footage and do you think it will ever be released? If not, why?
Andrew Klein: I don't know who owns it now. I spoke with a guy namedJohn Scher. He was the owner of the Capitol Theatre. He confirmed that every show performed there from 1973-1984 was shot by the inhouse crew. Three cameras in black and white. The last time we spoke, he was preparing his film library for a big sale to either a distribution company or a collector. He wasn't specific. He vaguely remembered the circumstances surrounding the events of the day when Ozzy and Randy were there. He said, "I either filmed it and gave it to Sharon, or we have it put away somewhere — I just don't remember." My thought was, if he had the tapes, and was preparing his library for a sale, he certainly wasn't going to part with them. He would want to maintain exclusivity, which I can understand and respect. They are his and he can do what he wants with them. I feel that if he had given them to Sharon, they would have been released by now. In a letter sent to Jodi the day after the Capitol Theatre show, Randy stated that it was a great show and he was excited that it was filmed. He went into details about the filming and said everyone in the band was aware of the cameras and everyone knew they were being filmed. Randy also said, "Because we were being filmed, I decided to wear the new vest you made for me with the zippers." Many people may not know this, but Jodi made all of Randy's stage clothes for him.
Randy Rhoads Society: There was also a rumor that there is another concert from Arizona in 1982 that was filmed also. Can you confirm this? If it does exist — who owns it and can it or will it be released?
Andrew Klein: There are two brothers who live in Arizona who are big fans of Randy's. They filmed two concerts — one "Blizzard" and one"Diary". They each sat in the front row with a camera and filmed the concerts from two different angles. They have the footage and the last I heard, they have no plans on ever making it available to the public. It is important to note that it is video only — no sound. If something is ever done with it, they will hopefully be able to sync it up with a live audio track. This shouldn't be too difficult. Ozzy's soundman recorded the band through the board nearly every night. Tommy Aldridge has copies of most of those tapes.
Randy Rhoads Society: What were your thoughts on the Ozzy boxset from last year?
Andrew Klein: I like the live audio tracks. I think they represent Randybetter than the "Tribute" album does. Overall, I think its great that Ozzyand Sharon are doing their part to keep Randy's spirit and legacy alive. They loved Randy and I'm sure they miss him just as much as the rest of us. When Ozzy performs, he still plays those songs. As long as we continue to listen to the music, Randy will stay near to us. I'm sure ifOzzy and Sharon had more of Randy that they could share with us, they would. I don't believe that anything is being held back. If they had anything else stashed away all of these years, I think it would have been released in the box set. Most people have heard by now that Bob Daisleyhas recordings that were made during his time with Randy. Lots of cool stuff. Rehearsals, writing sessions, outtakes, demos, jams, and even some songs that never made the records. It's really cool hearing Ozzy andRandy conversing about things and working out the song arrangements. I would venture to say that something historically important such as this doesn't exist anywhere else but on Bob's tapes. From what I understand, all of this material was to be included in last year's box set, but an agreement could not be worked out between them. Bob has the tapes and he can't release them without Sharon. Even if Sharon wanted to release them, she can't do so without Bob's cooperation. So, there you have two people who can't work together to find middle ground. The tapes are gathering dust and the ones who suffer the most are the fans, andRandy's legacy. It’s really a shame.

Eddie Vedder Performs at Obama Fundraiser
Eddie Vedder performed at a fundraising event for President Obama at a South Tampa, Florida, home on Thursday.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Pearl Jam frontman played four songs on a mandolin: "Rise," from his Into the Wild soundtrack; "Without You," from his solo discUkulele Songs; James Taylor's "Millworker"; and the Neil Young classic "Rockin' in the Free World."
Vedder also addressed Republican presidential candidate MittRomney's now-famous remark that 47 percent of voters will back Obama no matter what and that they do not pay federal income taxes. Vedder said, "It's very upsetting to hear a presidential candidate be so easily dismissive of such a ginormous amount of the population."
Vedder recalled how, in his pre-rock superstar days, he worked as a supervisor at a petroleum company, allowing him to earn money to pay for guitars and microphones. He said, "For me, it all began with that ability to get the proper training for a decent job."
The fundraiser Thursday pulled in 1.7 million dollars.
Muse's Matt Bellamy Says “Madness” Was Inspired by Argument with Wife Kate Hudson
Sometimes great song ideas can come from bad experiences. Muse frontman Matt Bellamy says that “Madness,” the first single from his band's upcoming album The 2nd Law, was inspired by an argument he had with his wife, actress Kate Hudson.
“’Madness’ is about friction in a relationship, resolving conflict with a loved one and the madness of being caught up in fighting with someone you love," Bellamy tells the New Zealand Herald.
The singer added that The 2nd Law is a unique album because it features a variety of tracks that delve into the band’s personal lives. "We're singing about things like relationships for the first time,” explains Bellamy. “I did that for a bit on the first album [1999's Showbiz] but then I started doing interviews and thought, 'oh my God, I can't answer these questions, they're getting too personal'. So that's when we started getting all conceptual and pretending the album was about the end of the world, or whatever."
You’ll get your first chance to hear songs from The 2nd Law played live when Muse takes the stage later this month as part of the iTunes Festival. The band is scheduled to perform at London’s Roundhouse on September 30, just two days before the release ofThe 2nd Law.

COREY TAYLOR Talks New STONE SOUR Music, 'Knotfest' And Future Of SLIPKNOT
SLIPKNOT and STONE SOUR frontman Corey Taylor was interviewed on the September 14-16 edition of Full Metal Jackie's nationally syndicated radio show. You can now listen to the chat using the audioplayer below.
To see a full list of stations carrying the program and when it airs, go toFullMetalJackieRadio.com.
Interview (audio):
Full Metal Jackie: Let's talk about STONE SOUR. A double concept album described musically as PINK FLOYD meets ALICE IN CHAINS and with a corresponding comicbook — it sounds like a major creative undertaking. What got the ball rolling?
Corey: This was something I was actually thinking about when we were making "Audio Secrecy", and honestly, it came from all the little bits and pieces that were kind of left over after we were done with the initial recording for "Audio Secrecy". I had a story wrapped in my head for a while, and I just started really trying to envision what it would be like, especially in this day and age when everyone is so single-minded — absolute pun intended there. I was, like, "You know what?! Screw the industry. If I wanted to make something above and beyond a piece of art but also great music and something that could really fire on every artistic cylinder, what would it be?" I really started flushing the story out early on, then obviously certain things happen that really drew me away from anything artistic — Paul [Gray, SLIPKNOT bassist] died and then about a year later Roy [Mayorga, STONE SOUR drummer] had a stroke so everything really went topsy turvy for me for a bit. Right around the middle of the Sonisphere shows we were doing with SLIPKNOT, I was really thinking about STONE SOUR for some reason, and that's when I really started to put a lot of pieces together. I flushed the story out on the road, and a lot of the songs that I wrote for the albums I wrote on the road. So by the time I got back, it was chomping at the bit to do some demos and what-not, and that's where it started from.
Full Metal Jackie: Looking back what part of doing a concept album were you least prepared for?
Corey: I've gotta be honest, I was pretty set to do whatever it took. The thing I really had to remember was that the lyrics were a narrative — that's really where I had to focus and make sure I was telling the story the way it should be told. Basically, the songs are the internal dialogue for the characters that are in the story itself, so when you listen to the music and read the story, you almost get this 3D kind of experience — you're reading the story, but you're also getting what they're thinking. For me, the real challenge was to maintain the integrity of that and make sure each character has their own little bit to say and have their own little hero moment and that everything that we tried to do musically and creatively was a nice reflection — that everything enhanced the story. It was so much fun. I mean, it was a lot of work, but it was so much fun as well. Working with Dave [Bottrill, producer], he was really able to pull all of this great material out of us — basically doing two albums in the space it takes to make one. So, I mean, it wasn't a lot of work; it was just a lot of fun at the end of the day.
Full Metal Jackie: Now that you've got the experience of recording a concept album, does that open the door for SLIPKNOT to maybe try one, too?
Corey: Maybe. [laughs] I don't know. This was a lot of work, If it was a single concept album, maybe. It was almost trying to play basketball on a trench — you know what you want to do and you know what you want to try and do, but you're already four feet in the ground. It was like running against the breakers, basically. The end result is so satisfying — so maybe, I hate to say "never" anytime, because the more you announce your plans out loud, the more you make God laugh. So, to me, it's more about waiting and seeing what happens. I can't say that doing it with five guys was a kick in the ass. I don't know what the hell would happen with nine.
Full Metal Jackie: I've gotta talk to you about Knotfest, which recently happened. You're in Iowa, home to SLIPKNOT, playing there for the first time without Paul. It was also Randy's [Blythe, LAMBOFGOD frontman] first gig after being released from prison. How wild was your range of emotion at that first Knotfest show?
Corey: It was pretty crazy. I drove up there on my own and the whole way there… First of all, you're going through the practical emotions of, "God, is anybody gonna be there?" It's your own gig, but it's bigger than your own gig. You're trying to start something, you're trying to set the stage for something that can live for a few years after you're done. The only thing I'm worried about is, "Is there going to be anyone there?" So when I was driving in and I saw all the people, I was immediately like, "Oh thank God." [laughs] Randy was the first person I went to try and find when I got to the gig and knowing that this was his first taste of it back. He was so stoked. I ran up and gave him a huge hug and we talked a little bit and he was just like, "Dude, I cannot wait to get on that stage and just let so much go." They put on one hell of a show. I was so proud of him and the band to be able to rise above everything thrown at them in the last couple of months. I kind of had to turn my mind back to the business at hand and basically realize that this is the beginning of something that we're trying to build. We want Knotfest to become its own household name when it comes to festivals — kind of like the way Ozzfestis. There was a lot of anxiety on my part, but then you go out onstage and that audience just rolls that positivity back at you and you just eat it up. We went above and beyond for the kids and I think Paul would've been proud.
Full Metal Jackie: Speaking about this being your very first festival that you guys put together. Did you take your experiences from all the festivals you've been on over the years? You've been on all of them.
Corey: Oh, yeah, definitely. That was one of the things that got us thinking about wanting to do our own festival in the first place. We've been extremely lucky to have been a part of a lot of really good festivals — everything from Ozzfest here in the States to Soundwave in Australia, all the wonderful festivals that are over in Europe. We would walk around and go, "This is really cool, but if we were gonna do one…" and then that was seriously an eleven-year conversation. Every time we'd be on one of those things, we'd be, like, "You know what?! Tthis is awesome and really cool, but if we get to do…" So it was really something we'd been talking about for a long, long time, and about a year ago we found ourselves surrounded by the best people in the business to help us really achieve this. One thing led to another, and then all of a sudden all of the things we talked about are sketched on a piece of paper or written down on a napkin and all of these crazy ideas just came rushing to the surface. I can only take a little bit of credit for that. 99 percent of credit for everything that happened in Knotfest, creatively, that was all Shawn Crahan, that was all the Clown. Day and night, he put so much work in and I was proud of him when we got there and saw it all physically. I was just so stoked that we were able to pull it off. I gave him a huge hug and was, like, "Well, here it is. If we're gonna make a mess, this is the way we're gonna do it." It was great everything from the SLIPKNOT museum to the crazy pagan fire everywhere. It was just insane, but it was a blast. I was really proud to be a part of it.
Full Metal Jackie: What can you tell us in terms of a timeline and what we can expect between the two bands for you?
Corey: STONE SOUR is going to dominate the next year and a half to two years for me, obviously. We're going to have two albums coming out. Right now, [we're] flushing out an outline for the comic books that we're gonna put out. I can't tell you the company, because we're waiting for a big reveal on that, but it's going to be really, really cool. [We're] getting all the artwork together, trying to hit as many territories as possible, two or three times just to be able to get a real album cycle out of this and hopefully have this lead to something even bigger and better for that. Probably in the next year or so, we'll start talking musically with SLIPKNOTand seeing where it's at. I know there are some demos here and there that are floating around, but nothing solid. I've been jotting down some ideas and what-not, but the next two years are solid, solid, solid STONE SOUR. Will there be the random SLIPKNOT show here and there? Probably. But no major tours. The more stuff we do with SLIPKNOT, the closer we get to that next step in being able to walk into a studio and feel okay about it. It's going to be very daunting, but when the time is right, we're gonna do it. Other than that, I'm working on my next book and working on this damn film company with Shawn and just… Oh my God, you'd think I'd leave enough time in the day for me to sleep at some point.
Full Metal Jackie: Do you feel uncomfortable to have nothing going on? Is that why you fill your time with 20 different projects?
Corey: I must be one of those dudes that just… But it's my own damn fault. I have ideas every day, and if I'm not carrying a pad of paper, I'm typing it into the notes thing on my iPhone and it's just ridiculous — idle hands or the devil's plaything, and I can't be the devil's plaything. I've got to be the devil, I've got to be the guy making it all happen.

Speaking to AOL's Noisecreep, DEFTONES frontman Chino Moreno stated about the songwriting process for "Koi No Yokan", "We were coming out of a tough time, obviously, and our goal was to kind of rebuild what we created over all the years. I felt like we had to prove ourselves. We'd taken so much time between records, had some inner turmoil, and our records were starting to get pieced together versus really being created together, so for us it was a chance to get back to basics. We didn't have an idea of what sort of style we wanted. We just came in fired up and motivated to do something great. It was all very positive. We had more songs than ever, tons of ideas."

METALLICA Dominates Rolling Stone's 'Greatest Heavy Metal Albums Of All Time' Readers' Poll
Four of METALLICA's classic LPs were voted among the "The Greatest Heavy MetalAlbums Of All Time" by the online readers of RollingStonemagazine.
In announcing the results of the poll — which was launched last Friday — the editors of Rolling Stone wrote, "Metal fans are a very passionate bunch. They're also very opinionated, so when we asked them to vote for their favorite metal albums we expected a huge response. We also expected a big debate about the very definition of 'heavy metal.' Some metal fans say that groups like LED ZEPPELIN and GUNS N' ROSES are metal. Others think that's completely insane. We aren't here to settle these debates. We're merely here to count the votes."
"The Greatest Heavy Metal Albums Of All Time," according to the onlinereaders of Rolling Stone magazine:
01. "Master Of Puppets" - METALLICA
02. "Paranoid" - BLACK SABBATH

Amy Lee Looking to Take “Break” at End of Evanescence’s World Tour
It appears that Evanescence will be going on hiatus again. Frontwoman Amy Lee has revealed that she wants to take some time off after the band wraps up their world tour supporting their 2011 self-titled album.

Lee added that she plans to make another album with Evanescence sometime in the future, but she’s not quite sure when that will be. “Taking long breaks is seen as a bad thing, but I don't think it's a bad thing,” explains the singer. “People have the idea that you have to keep putting stuff out while people remember you. But I'd rather make something that's awesome and then make people remember again. I hope it doesn't take five years, but I don't want to put a timeline on it either."

30 Seconds to Mars Documentary Wins People's Choice Award at Toronto International Film Festival
30 Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto won the People's Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival on Monday for his documentary film, Artifact. The film tells the story of 30 Seconds to Mars’ legal battle with record label EMI, which slapped the group with a $30 million lawsuit when it tried to leave the label in 2007. The lawsuit was eventually dropped and the band wound up releasing its 2009 album, This Is War, through EMI.
"It started as a film about the making of an album, and it became a film about the most brutal and challenging conflict of our lives," Leto tells Rolling Stone. "I hope that artists and audiences watch this film and get a greater understanding of how things work [in the record industry], because understanding is the beginning of change. Inevitably, we're all moving towards what I hope is a more transparent system."
Leto added that the legal battle with EMI helped inspire the band during the writing process for This Is War. "It actually helped us make a better album," explains the singer. "We were very determined. We had to make an album that succeeded no matter what -– with or without a label. It's called This Is War for a reason. We were fighting for fairness.”
You may get your chance to see the film soon in a theater near you, as Leto says that the documentary has gotten “several offers from distributors.”

Hammett spoke recently with the San Francisco Chronicle about "Too Much Horror Business - The Kirk Hammett Collection", which is due out in October.
IN THIS MOMENT Guitarist Says Losing Management And Bandmembers Was 'Meant To Be'
Bob Zerull of Zoiks! Online recently conducted an interview with guitarist Chris Howorth of Southern California's IN THIS MOMENT. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
Zoiks! Online: First I want to say congratulations on the new album,"Blood". For how good it is and second for how well it's doing. At what point in the process did you know you were onto something special?
Chris Howorth: Well, thank you for that. We feel the same way about it. Honestly, it was kind of weird, because I don't know how much you know, but right before we went in to do the album… three months before, our manager dropped us and then a month later two of the guys in the band quit. We were like, "What are we going to do?" Really questioning ourselves, Maria [Brink, vocals] and I. But we rallied; we were trying to find new management while we were writing songs in my bedroom, trying to write some stuff that would be awesome. At a certain point, our friendKevin [Churko, producer], who did the album with us, said… and this was like three or four months before we went in to do the record, he was like, "Come into the studio for a week. We're going to do a couple songs and this will help us show everybody what we're doing," because he believed in the band. Pretty much after we did "Blood", we were like, "What the hell is this?" We'd never done anything like it. We thought that it was something special. Once we sent it out all these managers that we'd been talking to… they didn't necessarily want to manage us, they were just like, "We'll see how it goes." Once they heard the song, they were like, "We want to manage you guys." We finally picked our manager that way. Once that happened, we realized that this was special. Everything that happened to us, with the management leaving us, and the guys leaving, was meant to be, because it opened us up to make the album that was made and to be where we are now. From that point on, it was, like, "This is going to be our best album ever."
Zoiks! Online: That was going to be my next question. When the two guys left, did you know you had it in you? How close to not continuing on where you?
Chris Howorth: I remember when I was on the phone with Jeff [Fabb], I had a moment where I was like, "I can't do this anymore." I've been that guy in the band since I was the kid, finding people and firing people and trying to make it. No matter what band I was in, I was that guy. It was a serious roller coaster of emotions. One minute you're on top of the world, the next minute you're depressed. It was maybe like forty minutes of tears and what are we gonna do, then it was like, "Fuck this." I'm not going to lie and say that we felt 100 percent from that moment on, because we definitely had our ups and downs. Once we heard the songs going and got the new management, we started to realize that this is the best thing that could have happened to us and we have to forge forward.
Zoiks! Online: Maria had been joining SHINEDOWN on stage [during theRockstar Enery Drink Uproar Festival]. How did that come about?
Chris Howorth: Dude, SHINEDOWN… we'd never toured with them before. They're on our same management. Before this tour even started, we did a month-long tour with them headlining and ADELITAS WAY and we were opening the show. The first day Brent [Smith, SHINEDOWNsinger] found us and was the most gracious man in the world. "Anything you need, come to me, I'm a huge fan of the record." We started noticing they were watching us every day. Barry [Kerch], the drummer, came up and was like, "I'm a huge fan. I love you guys." All this stuff and we were just blown away. We couldn't believe these guys were being so cool and helpful to us. Brent had the idea, "Hey, I think it'd be cool if you came up and sang with us." Maria obviously said, "Hell, yes" as fast as she could. Those guys being who they are, which is completely awesome people, plus they're fans of the band, and they like us as people, too, and they're trying to help us, and it's humbling and awesome.

KILLSWITCH ENGAGE Bassist: JESSE LEACH 'Blew Us Away' While Auditioning To Return To Band
Metal Blast conducted an interview with bassist Mike D'Antonio of Massachusetts metallers KILLSWITCH ENGAGE backstage at the Heavy T.O. festival on August 12 at Downsview Park in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. You can now watch the chat below. A couple of excerpts follow.
Metal Blast: You have a segregation; the new fans, the old fans. Have you found any division between their acceptance of [returning lead singer]Jesse [Leach]… rather re-acceptance?
Mike: Not yet, not really. Which is great and phenomenal. That was one of our main concerns; can Jesse do the Howard [Jones] songs? That was one of the things we really had to figure out for ourselves before were like, "Cool, let's go on the road," and he proved to us that he wanted to do it. And we were, like, "Okay, I guess he knows those songs." 'Cause…he actually auditioned for the part and did an amazing job… he just blew us away. We had an entire day of auditions starting at 11:30 a.m., probably 15 or so characters come in through the door, by about 4:30 [or] 5 o'clock, we were all kinda beat, ready to go home. That was enough of playing the same three songs over and over again, 'till Jesse walked in the room. We proceeded to rock out 15 songs in a row; the spirit was back, the energy was back, all the smiles were there. That's what you need.
Metal Blast: There's been rumors that you guys have been touring then writing and recording on the side. I've heard something about maybe half an album being done… I'm just wondering, is there any truth to that rumour?
Mike: We have a good amount recorded. After this tour we're on theTrespass [America] tour with FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, TRIVIUM,GOD FORBID, BATTLECROSS and a bunch of other bands and we specifically said, "Let's go out and do some shows. Let's have Jesse really get into the fold, really meld with us in the live thing again, really become a strong entity once more," and this is the best way to get a crash coursein hate and life by being on tour. But yeah, just to get him in the mindset, so we're gonna go back and do some more vocals. So… the next 2 ½ - 3 months is just vocals, finishing up the record and being ready to go for the New Year.

Soundgarden Reveals Artwork, Trailer for King Animal
Soundgarden has revealed the artwork and a trailer for their upcoming studio album,King Animal.
There's a definite winter theme in play, from the look of things. The cover, which the band posted on their Facebook page, features a carefully-arranged mound of bleached animal skulls, set against a snow-covered landscape of bare trees beneath an iridescent sky.
The minute-twenty-five trailer echoes the King Animal album cover. Scored to music from the album, it features camera pans of the same snowy landscape, with images of Chris Cornell and the band shimmering into and out of sight. The trailer resolves itself into the King Animal cover.
The title of the song that plays beneath the trailer isn't known. Last month, Soundgarden posted a 37-second clip of another track, titled "Worse Dreams," that featured footage of the band working in the studio and performing live. King Animal, Soundgarden's first new studio album since 1996's Down on the Upside, arrives November 13.
Green Day Rocks GMA, Talks “Epic” Album Trilogy
Green Day stopped by ABC’s Good Morning America on Friday morning to perform a few tracks and discuss their upcoming trilogy of albums, ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tré! In an interview with GMA's Josh Elliot, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong says that each album in the trilogy is a part of an ongoing story, as well as a reflection of their musical history.
“The first record is kinda' more classic, kinda Green Day-sounding, kinda dates back to more Kerplunkor Dookie-kinda- era," said Armstrong. "The second one is much more garage-y, like Foxboro Hot Tubs…and the third one is more of like a finale of the three. We started off writing a few songs and it ended up becoming an epic in the long run.”
Armstrong added that the band wasn’t planning to make three albums at once, but after their writing sessions produced thirty songs, they felt they should do a three-album set. “We had a handful of songs and then instead of doing a double record -- I think we had about right around 30 songs, we decided to just keep going,” notes Armstrong. “We were having a good time with it. So, we were like, let's put out a three-album set.”
While ¡Uno! arrives in stores on September 25, ¡Dos! won’t be released on November 13. The band’s final album of the trilogy, ¡Tré!, will be available on January 15, 2013.
You’ll get your chance to hear songs from the trilogy performed live when Green Day hits the road for a North American tour. That outing kicks off at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle on November 26.

MUDVAYNE Bassist is 'Honored' To Be Touring With KORN
KORN bassist Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu sat out the band's shows in Europe last month so that he could be home for the birth of his child. Filling in for him was Ryan Martinie of MUDVAYNE.
An 11-minute video clip of Martinie talking about his involvement with KORN can be seen below.
It's been almost three years since MUDVAYNE released its self-titled fifth album and little has been heard about the band since then. But in a late 2010 interview with the music blog Warwick, Martinie discussed the group almost entirely in thepast tense. When asked about the quartet's musical evolution, Martinie said, "I think that what we did is valuable. It's become a cog in the wheel of music in some sort of way. We are a piece of musical history now . . . We were always just responding to our environment. I always saw the band to be important as an aspect of my life, as something that was supposed to take us places that are positive, and in that sense everything that happened with the band has happened for a reason."
MUDVAYNE did not tour behind its fifth album, which was barely promoted and sold weakly upon release.
KORN will co-headline the fourth annual ShipRocked, the ultimate rock music cruise vacation which sails November 27 - December 1.
COHEED AND CAMBRIA: Inside The New Album Concept
A one-minute video explanation of the concept of the new album from New York progressive rockers COHEED AND CAMBRIA can be seen below.
COHEED AND CAMBRIA's sixth studio album, a double concept album entitled "The Afterman", will be released in two separate full-length volumes.
The first volume, "The Afterman: Ascension", will be available on both physical and digital platforms in the U.S. on October 9 via Hundred Handed/Everything Evil, and distributed through Fontana/Ingrooves(to be available in Canada via Universal Music Canada). The second volume, "The Afterman: Descension", is due in February 2013.
"The Afterman: Ascension" track listing:
01. The Hollow
02. Key Entity Extraction I: Domino The Destitute
03. The Afterman
04. Mothers Of Men
05. Goodnight, Fair Lady
06. Key Entity Extraction II: Hollywood The Cracked
07. Key Entity Extraction III: Vic The Butcher
08. Key Entity Extraction IV: Evagria The Faithful
09. Subtraction
A deluxe version of "The Afterman" will include a hardcover coffee-table book with expansive art by Heidi Taillefer and Nathan Spoor with collaborative written work from singer/creator Claudio Sanchez and writerPeter David that will create a song by song experience.
The two records follow-up to 2010's "Year Of The Black Rainbow", and will feature new bassist Zach Cooper and returning drummer Josh Eppard, who have replaced Michael Todd and Chris Pennie, respectively.
The concept albums will continue to be set in the band's alternate universe of "Heaven's Fence", which are part of their series titled "The Amory Wars". "The Amory Wars" is currently being developed by Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson of Leverage Productions for a live-action feature film. It follows the story of a superhuman dictator namedWilhelm Ryan, and a family that may have the ability to free the world from his control.
"The Afterman" albums will focus on a character named Sirius Amory, a scientist who discovers an energy force that can connect the universe's 78 planets together.
COHEED AND CAMBRIA frontman Claudio Sanchez said of the album: "This is, without a doubt, the most honest record I've ever written. Though all the songs can be interpreted through our main character in the story, they were initially written in a very spontaneous manner. In thepast, I've always had a predetermined idea of what the story was going to be when I approached the songs. With 'The Afterman' being a new story within 'The Amory Wars' arc, I allowed the events of my life to drive the concept, and therefore opened up the songwriting to a fuller degree."
The "Domino The Destitute"video can be seen below. The clip was helmed by director Roboshobo (a.k.a. Robert Schober), who previously worked on METALLICA's "All Nightmare Long" and MASTODON's "Curl Of The Burl", "Divinations" and "Sleeping Giant" videos.
GODSMACK Frontman Says Kids Are 'Too Protected Nowadays'
Weed Street Journal recently conducted an interview with GODSMACKfrontman Sully Erna. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
Weed Street Journal: Are you aging gracefully or are you fighting it tooth and nails?
Sully: I'm definitely fighting it. [laughs] I work out every day. I started with my ex-girlfriend, who was a volleyball player. I got addicted to it. It just makes me feel better physically. I used to be on a lot of drugs and stuff. So it's good just to feel healthy. After we broke up, I just keptworking out. Am I aging gracefully? You'd have to ask my friends or my fans. Actually, you would probably get a more honest answer from my fans. [laughs]
Weed Street Journal: Being a father, do you find that you are more protective because of the things you got into as a kid?
Sully: Well, of course you want to be. But I think kids are too protected nowadays. Parents don't let their children experience enough. I was raised in a tough neighborhood, where there was a lot of drugs, gangs and crime. It made me who I am today. I think that parents should let their children lose at board games and such. Otherwise, they grow up being spoiled and unaware of the real world. I think parents should sit their kids down and talk to them when they lose at baseball or whatever. Otherwise, when they grow up, they can't accept it when they go to a jobinterview but don't get the job.
Weed Street Journal: What do want your legacy to be? What do you want to be remembered by?
Sully: Wow! Nobody's ever asked me that before. Good question! I hope to be remembered as just a great person. I don't want to be remembered as the man who changed the world, honestly. I want to be remembered as being a little bit valuable… just a nice guy.
Weed Street Journal: Do you plan on doing another solo album?
Sully: Oh, definitely. I want to do it all. I want to playmusic, write, act, do a soundtrack. I just finished this album and we are just starting the tour for it. It's in the future. I want the brand Sully Erna to continue to grow.
Green Day will be paying a visit to ABC’s Good Morning America on Friday. Tune in around 8:30 a.m. ET to see the guys perform tracks from their upcoming album, ¡Uno!, which hits stores on September 25.
After their GMA performance, the band will rock the crowd at exclusive concert to celebrate the launch of a new mobile music streaming service, Nokia Music, at Irving Plaza in Manhattan on Friday night.
In other Green Day news, the guys recently announced that they’ll be hitting the road for a North American tour in November. That outing kicks off at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle on November 26, shortly after the second album in the trilogy, ¡Dos!, is released on November 13. The band’s final album of the trilogy, ¡Tré!, will be available on January 15, 2013.
Adelitas Way Explores True Love in “Alive” Video

The video’s storyline focuses on a sick young man in a hospital who gets kidnapped playfully by his girlfriend so they can spend the day together. The video also includes scenes of the band performing the track on a rooftop.
Adelitas Way is currently trekking across North America on the Rockstar Energy Uproar Festival with Shinedown, Godsmack, and Staind until the end of month. Shortly after that, the band will hit the road to support Theory of a Deadman on their headlining tour.
"The Everlasting", the new video from the Ann Arbor, Michigan hard rock band TAPROOT, can be seen below. The clip is an ongoing story fromTAPROOT's previous music video, "No Surrender".
"The Everlasting" comes off TAPROOT's new album, "The Episodes", which was released on April 10 via Victory Records. The CD was produced by Tim Palatan, who previously worked with the group on 2010's "Plead The Fifth".
Speaking to Loudwire, TAPROOT frontman Stephen Richards stated about the "The Everlasting" video, "Shooting the video for me was a breeze because we had the concept in mind of it being from the music and the score and the story. I didn't want it to be another 'Hey, we're standing in a warehouse performing'[-type clip]. We wanted to tell more of a story and continue on the story from the 'No Surrender' video, so it was more the idea to have the band's cameo with a poster on the wall but the actors and characters do more of the story telling to make it more enticing to the people who have watched the first video. It's definitely harder to follow and that's the goal — kind of make it a David Lynch-y thing."
He continued, "This is the first time I got a month at home with my two-year-old boy, so I actually wasn't on set for the video. I think our drummer, since he lived in Chicago, went by and saw the video shoot. Ericover at Victory Records who shoots the videos for us, I told him what we were looking for and how to tell the story and he just totally took it on his own and made it happen the way we wanted it and we're all very, very happy with it."
"The Episodes", nearly six years in the making, is a complexly developed concept album. Guitarist Mike DeWolf told Loudwire about the CD, "It's a life journey kind of concept about growing up and making choices and the effects of the choices you make in your life — one way or the other. It's got three main characters and it's something that hopefully each person can take something different away from — something that can be special to each person individually."
Regarding the songwriting process for the new album, DeWolf said, "It came together a thousand times faster than any other album. We did everything completely different. We had this idea — 'What if we wrote a story, broke it into ten pieces, and then wrote the music around that?' Instead of the opposite because the music always comes pretty easy to us but the lyrics usually take a little while longer. We were kind of getting the hard part out of the way right off the bat and having fun with it all the rest of the way. It came together, literally, in 15 days — written and demoed."

ROB ZOMBIE's New Movie Premieres At Toronto Film Fest
According to The Pulse Of Radio, Rob Zombie's new movie, "The Lords Of Salem", had its world premiere on Monday night (September 10) at theToronto International FilmFestival, where Zombie's fifth live-action feature was screened for critics, the public and potential distributors. The Playlist called it Zombie's "most accomplished," "most ambitious" and "most unnerving" film, although Bloody Disgusting labeled the low-budget movie a disappointment, saying Zombie's script was "littered with problems" and questioning his decision to cast his wife Sheri Moon Zombie as the lead.
The plot of the film deals with a curse placed 300 years ago on the residents of Salem by a coven of witches who were put to death, and how that curse returns to terrorize the city's modern-day inhabitants.
Zombie told The Pulse Of Radio that just like on his other films, thescript for "The Lords Of Salem" went through changes even as he was filming it.

SOUNDGARDEN To Sign With UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP
According to HITS' industry insider I.B. Bad, reformed grunge legends SOUNDGARDEN is in the process of signing with Universal Music Group in a worldwide deal put together by Max Hole, chief operating officer ofUMGI (international division of Universal Music Group), and Lucian Grainge, UMG's chairman and chief executive officer. In the U.S., the first album under the agreement will be on former WarnerBros. RecordsChairman/CEO Tom Whalley's Seven Four Ent. imprint through Universal Republic Records.
Although a release date for SOUNDGARDEN's sixth full-length studio album and first in 16 years, "King Animal", has not been officially confirmed,RollingStone recently reported it as November 13.
The band launched a website and teaser video for the disc, which includes an excerpt from a song called "Worse Dreams". Aside from the track "Live To Rise", which appeared on the soundtrack to "TheAvengers", this is the first new music heard from the band since 1996's"Down On The Upside" album.
Drummer Matt Cameron told The Pulse Of Radio it wasn't long after the band reunited in 2010 that they realized they wanted to make a new album. "When we got together in a room to rehearse for some shows and write some new music, we felt re-energized and we felt like we still had something to say musically," he said. "Who knows if we'll have the same type of impact, but I think what's super-important for us is that we really like playing this type of music together, and we know that we still have a core fan base out there that is excited to hear what we have to offer."
Guitarist Kim Thayil told Rolling Stone that the new record "re-establishes that we still rock, we're still heavy, and we're still a little weird."
STATIC-X: Multi-Camera Footage Of San Jose Concert
Multi-camera video footage of STATIC-X's September 6 performance at The Rodeo Club in San Jose, Californa can be seen below (courtesy of Bay Area Backstage).
Bassist Brent Ashley left STATIC-X earlier in the month. His final show with the band took place on September 1 at the House Of Blues in West Hollywood, California. He wrote on his Facebook page, "[I] wish things would have ended differently, but I'm very excited for what the future will bring." He added on Twitter, "Being the professional that I am, I won't call anyone out or point fingers as to why I left. But, if ya meet me in person … feel free to ask."
Original STATIC-X bassist Tony Campos — who is currently on the road with SOULFLY — issued a statement in July indicating that he had "no interest in working with [STATIC-X frontman] Wayne Static, now, or anytime in the foreseeable future."
Regarding his decision to resurrect STATIC-X, Wayne said, "I really just wanted to go back to old-school STATIC-X since the band has been gone for a few years. The last tour I was on I did a lot of my solo stuff, and I'm ready to get back to old-school STATIC-X stuff, which is actually new again."
STATIC-X's recent trek marked the band's first outing since they announced a hiatus in 2009.
Athough none of the other original members — Campos, Koichi Fukuda(guitar) and Nick Oshiro (drums) — are part of the new STATIC-X lineup,Tony previously said that he was supportive of his former bandmate's decision to reform the group, saying, "I'm proud of my years with STATIC-X, and want to see the name of the band stay alive and well. I hope that all of our fans will continue to support both Wayne and I in our individual endeavors."
SHINEDOWN Bassist Wishes PAPA ROACH Singer Well
SHINEDOWN has been co-headlining the Rockstar Energy UproarFestival tour with GODSMACK since themiddle of August, with dates booked through the end of September, but one of the other acts they had on the trek with them is missing. PAPAROACH had to drop off after just a few shows so that singerJacoby Shaddix could have surgery on his vocal cords. SHINEDOWN bassist Eric Bass told The Pulse Of Radio that the group's departure wasn't a total surprise. "You know, they had talked about him having to get some surgery and get some things taken care of, but I think it was absolutely for the best because, you know, we definitely didn't want him to harm himself — you know, the guy's got a long careerahead of him, man, and we didn't want to see that cut short either," he said. "So everybody out here was 100,000 percent supportive of him and of the decision, and we weren't gonna bring anybody out here to replace those guys 'cause you can't replace them."
Also on the Uproar bill are STAIND, ADELITAS WAY, REDLIGHT KING,DEUCE, P.O.D. , and others.
SHINEDOWN is on the road behind its fourth studio album, "Amaryllis", which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard album chart earlier this year.
The band is aiming for its third No. 1 rock single from the album with"Enemies", which follows up "Bully" and "Unity" as the third track released from the disc.
SHINEDOWN has a total of eight No. 1 singles and 15 Top 10 hits, according to Billboard.

Muse Spokesman Calls $3.5 Mil Lawsuit Against Warner Music “Complete Nonsense”
Muse has responded to the $3.5 million copyright infringement lawsuit that was filed against their record label, Warner Music Group, over concepts behind tracks on the band’s 2009 album, The Resistance.
In a statement provided to ABC News Radio, a rep for Muse denies charges by a Texas man who is accusing the band of stealing the idea for his "cinematic science-fiction rock opera," Exogenesis, and using it on The Resistance.
"The claim is complete nonsense, and is categorically denied,” reads the statement. "It appears to be based on a 'screenplay' which the band never received or saw, produced by someone the band has never heard of. It speaks volumes that the album in question was released a full three years ago, and yet this is the first that has been heard of these groundless allegations."
Austin, Texas-based attorney Robert Kleinman told ABC News Radio on Monday that he filed the lawsuit in federal court in Manhattan last week on behalf of his client, Charles Bolfrass. Kleinman says that Bolfrass pitched Exogenesis to Muse in 2005, supplying them with a binder that included a screenplay, storyboards and about 1,000 pages of supporting material. The attorney says Muse rejected Bolfrass' ideas, but copied concepts from Exogenesis for their songs “Exogenesis I,” “Exogenesis II” and “Exogenesis III,” which appear on The Resistance. The lawsuit also alleges that the image from The Resistance’s cover artwork was stolen from Bolfrass’ Exogenesisstoryboards.
Bolfrass is suing Warner Music for copyright infringement, unfair trade practices and unfair competition.
Doug Robb Says Hoobastank Experienced "Complicated" Changes While Making Fight or Flight
Hoobastank went through a number of changes while putting together their recently released fifth studio album, Fight or Flight. Frontman Doug Robb says that the guys were dealing with some major changes throughout the entire recording process, which caused the album's release date to be pushed back twice.
“Honestly, it was just kind of complicated,” Robb tells ABC News Radio. “In the span of the last record, we switched management, we pried our self off of our label and it’s been busy on a personal level as well. I had a kid, our drummer had twins.”
Robb added that the album’s title was a testament to the band’s ability to stay together while dealing with all the personal and professional changes in their lives. “We’ve been doing this for 12 years now professionally and we’ve seen so many of our friends' bands come and go, and other bands that we don’t know come and go; and here we are still doing this and enjoying it,” explains the singer. “There’s been so many chances in that span that we could’ve quit, but we stuck it out so it’s kind of like, fight or flight.”
Green Day Post Performance Video for “Nuclear Family”
Green Day is giving us another taste of their upcoming album, ¡Uno!, which hits stores on September 25. After releasing videos for "Oh Love" and "Kill The DJ," the band has now unveiled the video for “Nuclear Family.” The three-minute clip features footage of the band performing the track live in a large, padded warehouse.
You’ll get your chance to hear "Nuclear Family" performed live when Green Day hits the road for a North American tour. That outing kicks off at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle on November 26, shortly after the second album in the trilogy, ¡Dos!, is released on November 13. The band’s final album of the trilogy, ¡Tré!, will be available on January 15, 2013.
Maynard James Keenan, the singer for TOOL, A PERFECT CIRCLE and PUSCIFER, recently agreed to write a bi-weekly column for Phoenix New Times' "Up On The Sun"blog.
In his debut piece, titled "These Are The “End of Days", the musician discusses his winemaking and offers offering advice to those who believe in the Mayancalendar's promise of a 2012 apocalypse.
Keenan writes, "The inherent problem with being a Chicken Little-type person is that if or when the sky ever falls, I'll be too flattened to snip 'See? I told ya so!' And although I live near Sedona, I possess no crystal ball, and any Tarot cards I may have owned have certainly all been shredded in the spokes of my long retired banana seat Huffy."
He continues, "These are in fact the 'End of Days' and people need to know about it As Soon As Possible! Obviously the only rational thing to do is to clear out all of your bank accounts and send me a cashier's check for the full amount … along with that cashiers check, I'm gonna need [for] you to go ahead and send along a detailed list of all your assets, toys, deeds, to any real estate, patents pending, etc. Please include highresolutionphotos. I can't be bothered to Google image each and every one of them. Not enough time."
TOOL has not issued a new album since 2006's "10,000 Days".
Keenan recently spent time on the road with PUSCIFER in support of that band's sophomore album, "Conditions Of My Parole", which was released last October via Puscifer Entertainment.
A PERFECT CIRCLE will perform one show in 2012 — on December 29 at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The band also confirmed its participation in the 2013 edition of the Soundwave Festival, which kicks off February 23 in Brisbane, Australia.

Muse’s Label Sued for $3.5 Mil for Allegedly Stealing Ideas for The Resistance
Muse’s record label, Warner Music, has been slapped with a $3.5 million lawsuit over concepts behind tracks on the band’s 2009 album, The Resistance.
Austin, Texas-based attorney Robert Kleinman tells ABC News Radio that he filed a lawsuit against Warner Music in federal court in Manhattan last week on behalf of his client, Charles Bolfrass, who is accusing Muse of stealing the idea for his "cinematic science-fiction rock opera," Exogenesis, and using it on The Resistance.
Bolfrass is suing Warner Music for copyright infringement, unfair trade practices and unfair competition. Contrary to other online reports, Kleinman confirms to ABC News Radio that Muse is not named as a defendant in the lawsuit.
Kleinman says that Bolfrass pitched Exogenesis to Muse in 2005, supplying them with a binder that included a screenplay, storyboards and about 1,000 pages of supporting material. The attorney added that while Bolfrass says Muse rejected his ideas, he is claiming that the band copied concepts from Exogenesis for their songs “Exogenesis I,” “Exogenesis II” and “Exogenesis III,” which appear on The Resistance. The lawsuit also alleges that the image from The Resistance’s cover artwork was stolen from Bolfrass’Exogenesis storyboards.
An ABC News Radio request to Warner Music for comment went unanswered as of Monday afternoon.
In other Muse news, the band will take the stage later this month as part of the iTunes Festival. The guys will perform at London’s Roundhouse on September 30, just two days before the release of The 2nd Law. You’ll be able to check out the band's full performance at the event for free: iTunes will be offering live and on-demand HD video streams via the iTunes Festival App or the iTunes Store.
Eddie Vedder, Tom Morello Perform with Bruce Springsteen in Chicago
Fans who attended Bruce Springsteen’s concert at Wrigley Field in Chicago on Friday got a special treat. Springsteen welcomed Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder and Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello onto the stage during his headlining set.
Vedder joined Springsteen for a special rendition of The Boss’s classic 1982 hit “Atlantic City,” and then reappeared with Morello to perform Springteen’s "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out" and a cover of "Twist and Shout."
The onstage collaboration is nothing new: both Vedder and Morello have a history of performing with Springsteen. Morello has shared the stage with Springsteen several times over the years, and he appears on two tracks on his latest album, Wrecking Ball. Vedder has also gotten the opportunity to jam with Springsteen several times over the last decade, performing at The Boss's concerts in Chicago in 2002, two shows in New Jersey and Washington, D.C. in 2004, and at the Kennedy Center Honors Springsteen event in 2009.
Fan-filmed footage of the performances has been posted on YouTube.

Dropkick Murphys to Release Signed and Sealed in Blood in 2013; Asks Fans to Get Tattoo of Artwork
New music from Dropkick Murphys is headed our way. The band will release Signed and Sealed in Blood, the follow-up to 2011’s Going Out in Style, in early 2013.
"We had such a great time writing our last album, Going Out in Style, we were excited to get back into the studio right away," said bassist and co-lead singer Ken Casey in a statement. "Where Going Out in Style was a concept album-kind of intricate and difficult, this one is catchy, fun, and as sing-along as can be."
In addition, The Murphys have also released the album's artwork, which features a red rose in the middle of a black-and-white crest. The band is asking that their die-hard fans take photos and videos of themselves getting a tattoo of the album’s artwork before September 19, so they can use them in an upcoming video for their single, “Rose Tattoo,” and for the forthcoming album’s packaging. For more information, visit DropkickMurphys.com.
Jack White Says Playing Festivals Is “a Necessary Evil”
While Jack White has performed at several big festivals including Lollapalooza, Outside Lands and the Firefly Music Festival, the singer has revealed that he isn’t fond of playing for the people who attend them.
"[Festivals are] a necessary evil in the business," the singer tells BBC News. “You get exposure to people who would never come and see you and [the organizers] offer bands a lot of money so they can't say no, but they're not my first choice to perform music. Everyone's drinking and lazing in the sun and walking around and that's a fun thing for them but it's not interesting for me.”
White will have to deal with festival crowds a few more times next month. He’s a headliner at the Virgin Mobile FreeFest at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD on October 6; the Austin City Limits festival at Zilker Park in Austin, TX on October 13 and the Voodoo Music + Arts Experience festival in New Orleans, LA on October 28.
SEVENDUST has entered Architekt Music studios in Butler, New Jersey with engineer Mike Ferretti to begin recording its ninth album for an early 2013 release.
A one-minute clip from the first day of the recording sessions can be seen below.
SEVENDUST's latest CD, "Cold Day Memory", sold around 27,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 12 on the Billboard 200 chart.
The band's previous effort, "Chapter VII: Hope and Sorrow", opened with 25,000 units back in April 2008 to land at position No. 19.
"Cold Day Memory" was released on April 20, 2010 on the band's own7Bros. Records, through Warner Music Group's Independent Label Group. The CD — produced by Grammy Award winner Johnny K(DISTURBED, STAIND, 3DOORSDOWN, PLAIN WHITE T'S) — was the group's first new album with its original lineup back together with Lowery's return after his departure in 2003.
CALL ME NO ONE — the new project featuring Lowery and SEVENDUSTdrummer Morgan Rose — released its debut album, "Last Parade", on June 5. The CD's first single, "Biggest Fan", was made available to purchase on iTunes on April 24.
SEVENDUST guitarist John Connolly and bassist Vince Hornsby also recently launched a new project, joining forces with CREED/ALTER BRIDGE drummer Scott Phillips in a new outfit called PROJECTED.
PROJECTED has already completed recording its debut disc, "Human", to be released September 18 on Connolly's own Yaya Papu LLC label.

Billy Corgan Talks Next Smashing Pumpkins Album, Upcoming Oceania Tour
Even though it’s only been about three months since TheSmashing Pumpkins released their latest album, Oceania, frontman Billy Corgan says that he’s begun working on material for the band’s next release.
"[I’ve] already started writing songs for a new album," Corgan tells Billboard.com. "[It] definitely seems like it's going to be more of a rockin' affair."
The singer added that while he wants to put out the new album in December of 2013, he’s not sure he can pull it off. "That's really ambitious, because we're still touring, and I've never been successful writing on tour,” he explains. “So even if we went into the studio in November when we come off of this tour, it's still pretty ambitious to have it out by then."
The Pumpkins are gearing up to hit the road for a North American tour next month to promote Oceania. Corgan says that he’s excited to unveil some unique visual effects on the tour, thanks to a 25-foot sphere created by Sean Evans, who worked with ex-Pink Floyd bassist/singer Roger Waters on his recent tour of The Wall.
“They actually invented computer technology to kind of alter the images so they don't warp on the sphere,” says Corgan. “It's pretty wild. So far we've done it five or six times, and it feels different, too. It doesn't feel like a normal concert.”
You’ll get your chance to see the special effects wizardry for yourself when The Pumpkins kick off the tour on October 10 at the Comcast Arena in Seattle, WA.
The Foo Fighters and James Taylor Perform at DNC
The Foo Fighters and James Taylor were among the warm-up acts for President Obama at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Thursday evening.
The Foo Fighters delivered acoustic versions of their hits "My Hero" and "Walk."
Taylor performed "Carolina in My Mind" and "You've Got a Friend," and managed to sprinkle in a few jokes, too.
When he walked on stage, he approached a stool and said, "I know an empty chair makes you nervous. I’m going to sit on it, not talk to it." That was an obvious joke at the expense of ClintEastwood, who spoke to an empty chair during an unusual speech at the Republican National Convention last week.
Taylor also told the crowd during his set, "I've been watching the coverage, and I've gotta say there's something...I don't get it. I mean, I'm an old white guy, and I love Barack Obama."
The performances took place just hours before Obama closed the Democratic National Convention by accepting his party's nomination.

Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger Isn't Interested in "The World's Opinion" About His Engagement to Avril Lavigne
Three weeks ago, Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger and pop star Avril Lavigne shocked their fans when they announced that they were engaged. While it seems that everyone has something to say about the duo getting hitched, Kroeger says he’s not paying attention to anyone else’s thoughts on the forthcoming nuptials.
"I try not to take too much interest in the world's opinion of our relationship," the singer tells People. "I just know the both of us are very happy."
Kroeger started dating Lavigne on July 1 -- the Canadian equivalent of America’s Independence Day, known as Canada Day -- while working on new music for her album. The frontman notes that he’s thrilled that the Canadian couple will be sharing that special milestone as part of their relationship’s history.
"We think it's very cool that our anniversary will always be on Canada Day," says Kroeger. "We can't wait to start our life together." Kroeger added that while he’s busy touring with Nickelback, Lavigne will “come over and spend some time [with me] when she's got time.”
Report: Late SLIPKNOT Bassist Was Patient Of Doctor Charged In Prescription Drug Deaths
According to DesMoinesRegister.com, a Des Moines physician has been charged with eight counts of involuntary manslaughter for allegedly prescribing large amounts of narcotic painkillers to patients who later died of overdoses, including SLIPKNOT bassist Paul Gray (pictured below).
Daniel Baldi, who helped run an Iowa Health System pain clinic, is accused of unintentionally causing the death of Paul Gray by writing "high-dose prescription narcotics to a known drug addict" starting on December 27, 2005, according to charging documents released at the doctor's court hearing today.
The doctor's lawyer, Guy Cook, told DesMoinesRegister.com his client plans to vigorously fight the charges.
"It is unprecedented to turn unfortunate deaths or medical results into a crime against a doctor," the lawyer said. "Unexpected deaths can occur in severe, chronic pain patients, unrelated to medical treatment. This is especially true with patients who are drug addicts or drug abusers."
Gray passed away more than two years ago from an accidental overdose of drugs, leaving behind his wife Brenna and daughter October
Brenna Gray revealed in a 2011 interview with Revolver that her husband had agreed to get help for his drug problem just one day before he died on May 24, 2010. Brenna, who said she had dealt with Paul's drug issues several times over the years, explained, "I realized what was going on when I found things at home — then he passed away that Sunday. So I really had no time to make a move. On the Saturday I said, 'Hey, we need to do something. We need to fix this.' He agreed. He was getting ready to go out on tour with (side project) HAIL! and he said, 'I'll go get help after this tour.' But I said, 'You're not going.' I called his manager and told him to cancel. But I think it was a little too late."
Paul was found dead in a hotel room in a suburb of Des Moines, Iowa, where he and SLIPKNOT were based. He was 38 years old.
Brenna said she didn't know what led her husband to drugs, but thinks it had something to do with his childhood. She revealed that his father, who committed suicide, was also a drug addict, adding, "I never pushed him to talk about it because it was such a burden to him.."
The young widow also said she was shocked by some of the public reaction to Paul's death, saying, "If he could have controlled (his addiction), he would have. He wanted to be done with it. But it's a life-long disease — even if he stayed clean for the rest of his life he'd still have had the disease."
SLIPKNOT co-founder/conceptualist/percussionist Shawn M. Crahan(a.k.a. Clown) told The Pulse Of Radio he tuned out the negative comments people made after his bandmate's death. "I had to finally release myself of any of it, you know. I had to void myself of what people were saying," he said. "I mean, anything that was said negative doesn't even register, because anybody that wants to spend any time on the negative, you know, they're just going to have to deal with it with their own life, when their own father or mother or aunt or brother or sister dies. You're going to have to deal with the negative because it just comes along with death."
Paul and Brenna's daughter, October, was born three months after her father's death. Brenna said, "She went through a phase where she looked just like him . . . She has his smile: she has these huge dimples and when she smiles, that's Paul right there."
SLIPKNOT's SHAWN CRAHAN Reacts To Charges Against PAUL GRAY's Doctor
SLIPKNOT co-founder/conceptualist/percussionist Shawn M. Crahan(a.k.a. Clown; pictured below) spoke to DesMoinesRegister.com about the involuntary manslaughter charges brought against a Des Moines, Iowa, doctor today (Wednesday, September 5) in connection with the death of the band's bassist, Paul Gray. Physician Daniel Baldi is accused of prescribing large amounts of narcotic painkillers to patients who later died of overdoses, including Gray.
Asked about the charges against Baldi, Crahan said, "None of it is going to bring back our brother Paul."
He added, "This epidemic of this sort of activity is becoming more and more … evident. It truly is becoming a problem amongst people. And it trickles all the way down to the youth. And awareness needs to be brought about."
Crahan made it clear that he was referring to "not only substance abuse but the ability to acquire substances, to get chemicals and the efficiency of it."
"Hopefully justice will be served," he said.
According to charging documents released at the doctor's court hearing today, Baldi is believed to have unintentionally caused the death of Paul Gray by writing "high-dose prescription narcotics to a known drug addict" starting on December 27, 2005.
Paul was found dead in a hotel room in May 2010 in a suburb of Des Moines, Iowa, leaving behind his wife Brenna and daughter October. He was 38 years old.

MTV Video Music Awards Airs Thursday Night Featuring Green Day Performance
While Young the Giant rocked last year’s MTV Video Music Awards with their performance of “My Body,” this year the spotlight belongs to Green Day. According to MTV.com, the band is expected to perform new songs from their upcoming trilogy of albums, ¡Uno!,¡Dos! and ¡Tré! on Thursday night’s show, which begins at 8 p.m. ET/PT. In the past, the show has started at 9 p.m. but has been moved ahead an hour this year so as not to conflict with President Obama's speech Thursday night at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina.
As usual, the nominees are mostly pop, hip-hop and R&B, but there are a fair few rock acts in the mix, most notably fun. The band's up for Best New Artist and Best Pop Video for their hit single "We Are Young," featuring Janelle Monáe. In the Best Rock Video category, The Black Keys will go up against Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Jack Whiteand Linkin Park. Gotye will be battling it out for the top award, Video of the Year, for "Somebody That I Used to Know" against videos from M.I.A., Katy Perry and Drake and Rihanna. If you're judging by number of Internet spoofs, Gotye would win the category hands down. And believe it or not, the eye-catching clip, which features the Australian singer and his duet partner Kimbra naked and covered with interlocking colored squares of paint, wasn't as difficult to film as you might think.
"I took a lot of concentration and...standing still just for very long periods and focusing for long periods," Gotye tells ABC News Radio. "But, in the end, you know, I'd do it again. It was enjoyable."
Gotye didn't even mind being covered in paint while nude. "It wasn't as uncomfortable as I thought it might be," he recalls. "It was actually very thin, water-based paint. So, it wasn't...weird and tickly or difficult to keep on the skin for hours as I thought."
Tune in to see who'll take home those Moonmen trophies on Thursday night at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
Here are a few of the nominees: Video of the Year
Drake f/ Rihanna, "Take Care"

Deftones Go “Back to Basics” for Koi No Yokan
Deftones fans can expect the band to head for familiar territory on their upcoming seventh studio album, Koi No Yokan, due in stores on November 13. Frontman Chino Moreno says the band has refined their songwriting process so their new album will sound more like their earlier work.
"Our goal was to kind of rebuild what we created over all the years,” Moreno tellsNoisecreep. “We'd taken so much time between records, had some inner turmoil, and our records were starting to get pieced together versus really being created together, so for us it was a chance to get back to basics.”
Moreno added that Chi Cheng -- the band’s bassist who's still hospitalized in a minimally conscious state after receiving a critical head injury in a car accident in November of 2008 -- was always present in their thoughts during the recording sessions for Koi No Yokan.
“The whole band feels very strongly about him and he's always been a part of things,” explains the singer. “The main thing we try to do is keep a positive attitude because it's not like he died -- it's more or less he's still alive and fighting and we all have hope -- that's the way we handle things."
COREY TAYLOR Talks Future Of SLIPKNOT, 'Knotfest' In New Video Interview
KXVO, the CW affiliate in Omaha, Nebraska, conducted an interview with SLIPKNOT/STONE SOUR singer Corey Taylor at SLIPKNOT's first-everKnotfest, an extraordinary two-date metal and hard rock festival which took place on August 17 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and August 18 in Somerset, Wisconsin. You can now watch the chat below.
Asked what kind of bands he would like on future editions of Knotfest,Taylor said, "For me, I would like to keep it… Bands from our generation, or maybe, like, SLAYER would be wonderful to have on the Knotfestshows. Stuff like KORN, maybe, would be great, ROB ZOMBIE — maybe even encourage a WHITE ZOMBIE reunion."
He added, "I'm not sure. There's a lot of great metal bands out there right now and this might be a great platform for them to have their own moment in the sun. So I think as long as we put together a package people really wanna see, I think it will sell itself."
Regarding what he sees in the future for SLIPKNOT, Taylor said, "We're gonna take a break and slowly but surely start putting some music together. Obviously, I have STONE SOUR that's going out for probably about a year and a half, two years with two albums. Joey's [Jordison, drums] got something, Clown's [percussion] got something, everybody's kind of got something that they're doing right now. But in the interim, we'll start putting music together and we'll just kind of see what happens."
He continued, "Obviously, the more we feel together as a band and as a family, the easier it will be to start working on new music. Obviously, without [late SLIPKNOT bassist] Paul [Gray], it's a little bittersweet, but I think the closer we become as a band, the closer we'll be to making a new album. So maybe in a couple years; we'll see. But it's gonna take a little time.”
DEFTONES Had 'Tons Of Ideas' For New Album, Says Singer
Sacramento, California-based alternative rock band DEFTONES has set a November 13 release date for its seventh studio album, entitled "Koi No Yokan". The group worked again with producer Nick Raskulinecz, who helmed 2010's "Diamond Eyes" and has also worked on albums by RUSHand FOO FIGHTERS.
Asked about DEFTONES bassist Chi Cheng, who has been in a semi-comatose state since a 2008 auto accident, Moreno said, "When I was 17 years old, I moved out of my parents’ house and moved in with him. We've been best friends most of my life. I'll just be doing some random thing in my life and he's always in my thoughts. The whole band feels very strongly about him and he's always been a part of things. The main thing we try to do is keep a positive attitude because it's not like he died — it's more or less he's still alive and fighting and we all have hope — that's the way we handle things."

Puddle of Mudd Frontman Booted from Plane and Arrested
Puddle of Mudd singer Wes Scantlin is in trouble again. Scantlin was arrested at Bergstrom International Airport in Austin, Texas Tuesday after allegedly getting into a drunken argument with a flight attendant over his excessive drinking, E! News reports.
The Austin Police Department tells E! Scantlin was on board a JetBlue flight from Boston to Los Angeles when the plane was diverted to Austin.
E! quotes law enforcement officials as saying, “The flight was diverted to Austin due to Wes Scantlin, lead singer of Puddle of Mudd. Once the plane landed the officers did their investigation and deemed that the individual was intoxicated and was place under arrest for public intoxication.”
A source further tells TMZ.com that Scantlin became upset on the flight because the flight crew refused to sell him booze.
Scantlin was later slapped with an additional charge of interference with a flight crew and booked into the Travis County Jail.
The singer pleaded guilty to felony cocaine possession in July, but was offered an opportunity to avoid jail by enrolling in a drug program by August 8. A Los Angeles judge issued a bench warrant for Scantlin after he failed to appear in court to show proof of his enrollment. The judge gave Scantlin a new court date of August 17. The current status of the bench warrant and his enrollment in the drug program is unclear.
