Green Day Cancels Italy Gig After Billie Joe Hospitalized; Band Mates Post Video Apology
Green Day was forced to cancel a concert in Bologna, Italy Friday night due to the hospitalization of frontman Billie Joe Armstrong.
Bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tre Cool wouldn't say what "illness" befell their band mate, but in a video posted to the band's official website, said they were "beyond devastated" to nix the gig. "We apologize profusely," Dirnt said, "but Billy got rushed to the hospital last night due to illness, and the doctors don't think it's a good idea for him to play today. This sucks. We were really, really looking forward to playing Bologna as the highlight of our tour."
Tre agreed, saying, "We're beyond devastated, we're sad as you guys are...and ah, we'll see you very soon."
Green Day's upcoming album trilogy, ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tré! will be rolling out in the coming weeks and months: ¡Uno! is set to arrive in stores on September 25, while ¡Dos!and ¡Tré! are slated for release on November 13, 2012 and January 15, 2013, respectively.
Black Stone Cherry Drops Out of ShipRocked Cruise
Black Stone Cherry has canceled their appearance at the fourth annual ShipRocked cruise, which takes place from November 27-December 1. The reason? Frontman Chris Robertson is going to be a daddy.
According to a message on the band’s Facebook page, the singer and his wife are expecting the birth of their child just a few days before the beginning of the festival.
"I have received a blessing and my son will be born on November 25th, if everything goes to plan,” wrote Robertson. “The due date being so close to the date of the cruise has caused us to have to cancel our performances. I hate it, but with our band...we all live 'family first.' I hope you all understand. And hope to see you on ShipRocked 2013!"
This year’s ShipRocked cruise will feature sets by Korn, Godsmack, Five Finger Death Punch, P.O.D., Sevendust and Pop Evil, among others. Between shows, fans can participate in games, activities and even hang out with some of the bands for meet-and-greet sessions. Get more info at GetShipRocked.com.
Papa Roach Fights Zombies in “Still Swinging” Video
Papa Roach has posted a video for “Still Swinging,” the first single from the band’s upcoming album, The Connection.
The video’s storyline, which was suggested by frontman Jacoby Shaddix’s 7-year-old son, features a lone man who fights against the zombie apocalypse using his super powers and a wrench. The clip also features scenes of Papa Roach performing the track on a rooftop so they can avoid the zombie hordes.
Papa Roach recently announced that they've pulled out of the rest of the Uproar Festival so Shaddix can undergo corrective surgery to remove a nodule on his left vocal cord. Rather than add another headliner to the tour, Uproar Festival organizers announced that all future concerts will feature longer performances from Shinedown, Godsmack,Staind and Adelitas Way on the main stage.
