MUDVAYNE Bassist is 'Honored' To Be Touring With KORN
KORN bassist Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu sat out the band's shows in Europe last month so that he could be home for the birth of his child. Filling in for him was Ryan Martinie of MUDVAYNE.
An 11-minute video clip of Martinie talking about his involvement with KORN can be seen below.
It's been almost three years since MUDVAYNE released its self-titled fifth album and little has been heard about the band since then. But in a late 2010 interview with the music blog Warwick, Martinie discussed the group almost entirely in thepast tense. When asked about the quartet's musical evolution, Martinie said, "I think that what we did is valuable. It's become a cog in the wheel of music in some sort of way. We are a piece of musical history now . . . We were always just responding to our environment. I always saw the band to be important as an aspect of my life, as something that was supposed to take us places that are positive, and in that sense everything that happened with the band has happened for a reason."
MUDVAYNE did not tour behind its fifth album, which was barely promoted and sold weakly upon release.
KORN will co-headline the fourth annual ShipRocked, the ultimate rock music cruise vacation which sails November 27 - December 1.

The first volume, "The Afterman: Ascension", will be available on both physical and digital platforms in the U.S. on October 9 via Hundred Handed/Everything Evil, and distributed through Fontana/Ingrooves(to be available in Canada via Universal Music Canada). The second volume, "The Afterman: Descension", is due in February 2013.
"The Afterman: Ascension" track listing:
01. The Hollow
02. Key Entity Extraction I: Domino The Destitute
03. The Afterman
04. Mothers Of Men
05. Goodnight, Fair Lady
06. Key Entity Extraction II: Hollywood The Cracked
07. Key Entity Extraction III: Vic The Butcher
08. Key Entity Extraction IV: Evagria The Faithful
09. Subtraction
A deluxe version of "The Afterman" will include a hardcover coffee-table book with expansive art by Heidi Taillefer and Nathan Spoor with collaborative written work from singer/creator Claudio Sanchez and writerPeter David that will create a song by song experience.
The two records follow-up to 2010's "Year Of The Black Rainbow", and will feature new bassist Zach Cooper and returning drummer Josh Eppard, who have replaced Michael Todd and Chris Pennie, respectively.
The concept albums will continue to be set in the band's alternate universe of "Heaven's Fence", which are part of their series titled "The Amory Wars". "The Amory Wars" is currently being developed by Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson of Leverage Productions for a live-action feature film. It follows the story of a superhuman dictator namedWilhelm Ryan, and a family that may have the ability to free the world from his control.
"The Afterman" albums will focus on a character named Sirius Amory, a scientist who discovers an energy force that can connect the universe's 78 planets together.
COHEED AND CAMBRIA frontman Claudio Sanchez said of the album: "This is, without a doubt, the most honest record I've ever written. Though all the songs can be interpreted through our main character in the story, they were initially written in a very spontaneous manner. In thepast, I've always had a predetermined idea of what the story was going to be when I approached the songs. With 'The Afterman' being a new story within 'The Amory Wars' arc, I allowed the events of my life to drive the concept, and therefore opened up the songwriting to a fuller degree."
The "Domino The Destitute"video can be seen below. The clip was helmed by director Roboshobo (a.k.a. Robert Schober), who previously worked on METALLICA's "All Nightmare Long" and MASTODON's "Curl Of The Burl", "Divinations" and "Sleeping Giant" videos.
GODSMACK Frontman Says Kids Are 'Too Protected Nowadays'
Weed Street Journal recently conducted an interview with GODSMACKfrontman Sully Erna. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
Weed Street Journal: Are you aging gracefully or are you fighting it tooth and nails?
Sully: I'm definitely fighting it. [laughs] I work out every day. I started with my ex-girlfriend, who was a volleyball player. I got addicted to it. It just makes me feel better physically. I used to be on a lot of drugs and stuff. So it's good just to feel healthy. After we broke up, I just keptworking out. Am I aging gracefully? You'd have to ask my friends or my fans. Actually, you would probably get a more honest answer from my fans. [laughs]
Weed Street Journal: Being a father, do you find that you are more protective because of the things you got into as a kid?
Sully: Well, of course you want to be. But I think kids are too protected nowadays. Parents don't let their children experience enough. I was raised in a tough neighborhood, where there was a lot of drugs, gangs and crime. It made me who I am today. I think that parents should let their children lose at board games and such. Otherwise, they grow up being spoiled and unaware of the real world. I think parents should sit their kids down and talk to them when they lose at baseball or whatever. Otherwise, when they grow up, they can't accept it when they go to a jobinterview but don't get the job.
Weed Street Journal: What do want your legacy to be? What do you want to be remembered by?
Sully: Wow! Nobody's ever asked me that before. Good question! I hope to be remembered as just a great person. I don't want to be remembered as the man who changed the world, honestly. I want to be remembered as being a little bit valuable… just a nice guy.
Weed Street Journal: Do you plan on doing another solo album?
Sully: Oh, definitely. I want to do it all. I want to playmusic, write, act, do a soundtrack. I just finished this album and we are just starting the tour for it. It's in the future. I want the brand Sully Erna to continue to grow.
