LAMB OF GOD Frontman Acquitted Of Manslaughter
According to Blesk.cz and Novinky.cz, LAMB OF GOD frontman Randy Blythe has been found not guilty of manslaughter earlier today (Tuesday, March 5) by a three-judge panel in the Czech Republic.
Blythe was facing the possibility of conviction and a long-term jail sentence after a May 2010 incident in which a fan, Daniel Nosek, who attended a LAMB OF GOD performance in Prague, died almost a month later, allegedly from injuries sustained when he was thrown off the stage.
"I have been found not guilty and acquitted of all charges against me,"Randy wrote on his Instagram account. "I am a free man.
"Please remember the family of Daniel Nosek in your thoughts and prayers in this difficult time. I only wish for them peace. Thank you for your support."
Tuesday's ruling by Prague's Municipal Court was confirmed by the court spokeswoman, Marketa Puci.
The state prosecutors have announced their intention to appeal the verdict; they have eight days to put this in writing.
The court ruled that the act described in the charges cannot be qualified as a crime. It added that the dead man's family can claim compensation in civil court proceedings.
Randy's trial resumed yesterday (Monday, March 4) after court was adjourned last month due to missing witnesses (two expert witnesses – criminal psychologist/psychiatrist and a girl who attended the concert).
The presiding judge, Tomas Kubovec, said the opinions found in their reports were basically the same, according to WTVR.com. However, during testimony, they disagreed on how aggressive/anti-social Blythe is.
"I would like to thank the family of Daniel Nosek for not attacking me in the press and for their kind words to me in this court," Randy said in a statement to the court before the verdict was announced (see video below). "I am very sorry for their loss.
"Daniel was a fan of my band. I had no wish to harm him. He was just a boy and I wish he was still here.
"If, ultimately, the Czech legal system sentences me to prison, I will do my sentence like a man.
"If I am to remain free, I will do my best to insure that conditions at this concert will not occur again with my band and other bands so that the fans will remain safe.
"I have searched for an answer to this situation. The only one I can find is that it was a tragic, horrible accident."
Blythe was unaware of a warrant out for his arrest when he was detained last June after arriving at the Prague airport for a show with LAMB OF GOD. He spent spent five weeks in custody before being released on bail in August.
The parents of the alleged victim were demanding compensation of 10 million Czech Koruna (approximately $530,000).
COREY TAYLOR To Host Discussion At SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST
STONE SOUR and SLIPKNOT frontman Corey Taylor will host a discussion at the 2013 South By Southwest Music Conference. "What The Hell Was That?!: Corey Taylor And The Art Of Making Mistakes"will take place in Ballroom E of Artist Central in the Austin Convention Center at 2 p.m. local time on Friday, March 15. The discussion is open to all SXSW patrons with music and platinum badges and artist wristbands.Taylor will also drop by the South By Book Store to sign copies of his best-selling book, "Seven Deadly Sins: Settling The Argument Between Born Bad And Damaged Goods". The signing will take place just after his session from 3:15 to 3:35 p.m.
Taylor's second book, a follow-up to his 2011 memoir "Seven Deadly Sins", will be published this coming summer. The tentative title is "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Heaven". He explained what it's about, "It's basically my experiences with the paranormal, and ghost sightings and occurrences, and I've had a lot, enough that I'm writing a damn book about it. But it's actually . . . it's about how can I believe in ghosts, and not in God? So it's a very interesting conversation. And that's kind of what I wanted to do with 'Seven Deadly Sins', was start a conversation and get people thinking about it."
"Seven Deadly Sins" made the New York Times hardcover non-fiction best sellers list after it came out in July 2011, debuting at No. 26. The paperback edition, issued last year, features a bonus chapter.
Taylor promoted the book by doing a solo tour in which he combined readings, songs and discussion with the audience.
ALICE IN CHAINS Guitarist: New Album Is 'Completely Different From Anything We Ever Did'
ALICE IN CHAINS has set a May release date for its new album, which is officially titled "The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here". The group's fifth studio effort is its second with William DuVall on vocals and follows up 2009's"Black Gives Way To Blue", the group's first all-new collection of material in 14 years and first since the 2002 death of original singer Layne Staley.
"We made a unique record that's completely different from anything we ever did," ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell tellsRollingStone.com. "It encapsulates a period of time, like all records do. You see growth and that the band is moving ahead in new territory that we haven't been to before, but we haven't lost our identity."
He added: "There's some real filth in there. That's intentional, and that's also just how we sound together. We're trying to make a record that we dig and we're trying to keep the bar high for ourselves and see if we can get past it, and I think that we did again. And of course you want people to dig it too and to respond to it, and to have that start happening is satisfying."
ALICE IN CHAINS released a first single called "Hollow" earlier this year from the new disc, along with an accompanying video.
"The initial response to 'Hollow' has been fucking incredible, totally not what we intended, and that's fucking awesome," Cantrell tellsRollingStone.com. "We just put that song out there for the fans and then it ended up turning into a number one single, a six-minute sludgy metal tune. That's always fun, to see something like that happen."
ALICE IN CHAINS began working on new material in 2011, but the sessions for the album were delayed when Cantrell had to undergo shoulder surgery.
The band has announced a spring trek that starts on April 25 in Miami Beach and will include headlining slots at the Rocklahoma, Carolina Rebellion, Welcome To Rockville and Rock On The Range festivals.

LAMB OF GOD Frontman: 'I Categorically Refuse To Live In A Constant State Of Guilt And Fear'
A three-judge panel in the Czech Republic said it could deliver a verdict by today in the manslaughter trial of LAMB OF GOD frontman Randy Blythe.
Blythe's manslaughter trial in Prague, Czech Republic resumed yesterday (Monday, March 4) after court was adjourned last month due to missing witnesses.
Blythe is facing the possibility of conviction and a long-term jail sentence after a May 2010 incident in which a fan, Daniel Nosek, who attended a LAMB OF GOD performance in Prague, died almost a month later, allegedly from injuries sustained when he was thrown off the stage.
In a brand new posting on his Instagram account, Blythe reflected on his legal battle and mentally prepared for today's verdict, explaining that he "categorically refuse[s] to live in a constant state of guilt and fear."
He wrote: "It's a beautiful morning in Prague, and time for me to go to what is (hopefully) my final day in court here- supposedly judgement will be passed today and I will move on with my life in one direction or the other. Which direction that is, I do not know. I could walk free, or conversely go to prison for up to ten years. Such is my life right now, and I must stay in this moment until its resolution. Whatever happens to me, do not feel sorry for me, for I am at peace and refuse to feel sorry for myself.
"Life happens. Deal with it.
"Some people cannot understand why I have returned, saying I should not come back here. KNOW THIS, and mark my words well — it would be absolutely intolerable for me to hide from this situation.
"I am an innocent man, but a family suffers the loss of a son, a fan of my band. That is what this whole thing is truly about, not prison, not money, not politics, not ME — it is about a young man who lost his life at just 19 years of age. He will never come back, and it breaks my heart. I would not be able to sleep at night knowing that I did not behave honorably and try to give his family some answers. That would be disgraceful, and I do not wish to dishonor myself or my family by acting in such a cowardly manner.
"I was raised to face my problems head on. For me, this is BEING A MAN.
"I categorically refuse to live in a constant state of guilt and fear. I would rather die.
"My morality and convictions are not dependent upon unforeseeable circumstance, nor malleable when difficulty arises.
"So I walk this morning to court with my head held high, no matter what others opinions of me may be. I have to face myself in the mirror, and tomorrow morning, where ever I may wake up, I will be able to do that without regret. This is THE ONLY path to true freedom for me — peace within myself. This is the manner in which I choose to try my best to live my life, and I hope you all do the same — do your best to do what is right, no matter how difficult it may be. I promise you, this will bring you peace.
"I thank you all for your support, I wish you all a good day, and to quote one of my favorite movies: STRENGTH AND HONOR."

Dave Grohl Tried to Pair Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo & Barry Manilow for Sound City Documentary
While Dave Grohl gathered an eclectic group of artists to make new music for his documentary, Sound City, there was one musical pairing that he wasn’t able to make happen. The Foo Fighters frontman says that he wanted to get Weezer singerRivers Cuomo and pop icon Barry Manilow together in the studio to collaborate on a new song for the film.
“[Manilow] was the first person who said he’d do it but was the last we tracked down,” he tells U.K.‘s The Sun. “I was this f***ing close to getting them on a record. I thought it was going to happen, it would’ve been f***ing huge.”
In other Grohl news, the singer will be performing with the Sound City Players, a band comprised of some of the artists who appear in Sound City, on Tuesday night on ABC’sJimmy Kimmel Live! Accompanying Grohl for the appearance will be all the members of the Foo Fighters, former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic, Queens of the Stone Agemulti-instrumentalist Alain Johannes, Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen, Fearfrontman Lee Ving, John Fogerty, Rick Springfield, The Wallflowers keyboardist Rami Jaffee, and violinist Jessy Greene.
Dave Grohl’s Sound City Players to Perform at South by Southwest Festival
In addition to being the keynote speaker at this year’s South by Southwest music festival, Dave Grohl has just announced that he'll be performing at the fest with theSound City Players, a band comprised of some of the artists who appear in his recently-released Sound City documentary. The concert will take place on March 14 at Stubb’s in Austin, Texas.
Accompanying Grohl for the concert will be Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks, John Fogerty,Rick Springfield, Fear frontman Lee Ving, Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen, Rage Against the Machine drummer Brad Wilk, Slipknot/Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor,Queens of the Stone Age multi-instrumentalist Alain Johannes and Masters of Reality’sChris Goss. The Meat Puppets will be the opening act.
Starting on Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET, Citi cardmembers who purchase the Sound Citydocumentary on Blu-ray at CitiPrivatePass.com will receive complimentary tickets for the concert. In addition, a select number of SXSW badgeholders will be chosen to attend the show via lottery.
The Black Keys, Avenged Sevenfold, The White Stripes Announce Releases for Record Store Day
More details have been revealed about next month's Record Store Day initiative. On April 20, a massive number of artists will be releasing album reissues, new singles and rare and unreleased materials to support local record stores.
Included in the list of upcoming releases will be a limited-edition single from The Black Keys. The seven-inch vinyl record will feature a 2002 recording of the Keys covering The Stooges 1969 track, “No Fun,” along with the Stooges' original version on the other side.Iron and Wine will also offer up a special seven-inch single for Record Store Day, which will include two exclusive tracks that have yet to be named.
Avenged Sevenfold will be dropping two special releases for Record Store Day as well. The first is a 12-inch vinyl single of “Carry On,” the track they wrote for the Call of Duty: Black Ops II, which will be pressed onto a picture disc sporting artwork from the video game. The second is a 12-inch vinyl LP which features audio from the band’s first live concert film, Live in the LBC, as well as Diamonds in the Rough, an album of B-sides that was released back in 2008.
In addition, The White Stripes will release a reissue: a 10th anniversary edition of their fourth studio album, Elephant. According to the Third Man Records website, the double LP will feature one album on split-color black and red vinyl, while the other will be on white vinyl.
The Black Keys, The Flaming Lips, Alabama Shakes to Perform at Forecastle Festival
The Forecastle Festival returns this summer, and the event’s producers have just unveiled the full list of performers. The Black Keys, The Flaming Lips and Alabama Shakes will rock the main stage at the event, which will be held July 12-14 at Waterfront Park in Louisville, Kentucky.
Other bands set to perform at the festival include Animal Collective, My Morning Jacketfrontman Jim James, Young the Giant, and former Hüsker Dü frontman Bob Mould, among others.

The producers of the Rock USA festival have assembled an impressive lineup of artists for their third installment.
Avenged Sevenfold, Godsmack, Van Halen and Poison frontman Bret Michaels will headline the event, which will be held from July 17-20 at Ford Festival Park in Oshkosh, WI. Other artists appearing at the fest include Buckcherry, Chevelle, Sevendust, Rattand Dokken, plus more.
