Foo Fighters Play 'Last Show For A Long Time,' Closing Reading Festival 2012
Eighteen years ago in Seattle, Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl decided to form a new band after the death of singer Kurt Cobain. Today, the Foo Fighters are regarded as one of the greatest (and one of the most seismologically intense) rock bands of the new millennium.
But on Sunday, Grohl told the crowd at the 2012 Reading Festival that the performance marked the Foo Fighters' "last show for a long time."
"Well, well, well. The f--king Reading festival. You guys [realize] we've got a lot of songs to play. It's the last show of the tour and it's the last show for a long time," Grohl said, according to NME. SCROLL FOR VIDEO
He went on to dedicate "These Days" to former Nirvana bandmates, Cobain and Krist Novoselic, telling the audience, "I'd like to dedicate this song to a couple of people who couldn't be here tonight. This one's for Krist and this one's for Kurt.''
The Foo Fighters' frontman might have been in a particularly nostalgic mood, since Sunday marked the 20-year anniversary of Nirvana's headlining performance at the Reading Festival in 1992, according to LoudWire. It was the last show the band ever played in England.
Novoselic wrote a piece for Seattle Weekly back in 2009, before the release of "Nirvana: Live at Reading."
"I think the show was such a success because of the audience," Novoselic wrote about the 1992 performance. "They gave so much that it was easy to swat it back. The best moment is the crowd sing-a-long to 'Lithium.'"
Grohl channeled the crowd's energy on Sunday when he got the audience to sing "Happy Birthday" to his mother, according to NME. "In 1992 when Nirvana played here, the last show we ever played in England, you sang happy birthday to my mom. Here's your chance," he said. The crowd responded.
Despite Grohl saying that Reading marked the Foo Fighters' "last show," the band has some dates lined up next month, CBS News notes. They are set to appear at Rock the Vote in Charlotte, N.C., on Sept. 5, as well as at the Music Midtown Festival in Atlanta on Sept. 21 and the DeLuna Fest in Pensacola Beach, Fla, on Sept. 22. BARONESS CANCEL REMAINING 2012 TOUR DATES, OFFER UPDATE ON BAND MEMBER INJURIES
Earlier this month, the members of Baroness survived a horrific tour bus crash outside of Bath, England, as they were en route to Southampton for their next show. A majority of the group suffered serious injuries in the crash, which put all promotional activities on hold. Now comes word that the group is calling off the remainder of their touring for the rest of 2012.
The accident itself was pretty scary as the band’s vehicle plummeted 30 feet over a viaduct, with firefighters on the scene eventually having to rescue several of the passengers inside. Singer John Baizley broke his left arm and left leg in the incident, while drummer Allen Blickle and bassist Matt Maggioni each had fractured vertebrae resulting from the impact of the crash.
Pete Adams remained the one member who escaped relatively unscathed, as he was treated and released. Adams was allowed to return home ahead of the rest of the band. Just last week, the band tweeted a photofrom the hospital expressing their thanks for all the support they’ve received from fans.
Now there’s more from the band, who issued a statement on their Facebook page announcing the tour cancellation and updating the statuses of their members. It reads:
John Baizley has been released from hospital. Allen and Matt have arrived back in the United States.
All remaining 2012 tour dates are canceled.
Thank you for all of the continued support.
Our best wishes go out to Baroness through the recovery process and hopes remain for a healthy 2013 and return to music.

Slash Recalls Finding Mom Naked with David Bowie
Bad enough to walk in on your naked mom when you're a kid, but Slash reveals that when he was eight years old, he discovered his mother naked with David Bowie.
In an interview with Australian radio station Triple M in Adelaide, the former Guns N’ Roses guitarist says his mother, Ola Hudson, was a costume designer who worked with Bowie in the mid-70s during the singer’s Thin White Duke period and on the film The Man Who Fell to Earth.
Slash recalls, Bowie “was always over -– they were always together. I caught them naked once. They had a lot of stuff going on, but my perspective was limited. Looking back on it, I know exactly what was going on. When I look back on that whole combination of people, I can only imagine how freaky it was.”
Ola Hudson passed away in 2009.

Korn's Munky Shaffer Says Mudvayne’s Martinie “Doing a Great Job” Filling In for Fieldy on Bass
It appears that Korn is enjoying working with Ryan Martinie. For the last few weeks of their European tour, the Mudvayne bassist has been filling in for the band’s founding member and bassist Reginald Arvizu, a.k.a. Fieldy, who is expecting the birth of his second child this month.
“It’s really hard to replace anybody in this band,” guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer tellsTravel in Rock Music. “It was a short list of people that…could do it. There was about four of five people and Ryan was one of them. He’s doing a great job and being a pro and it turned out to be a good situation for everybody.”
Once Korn completes their final European leg, they'll get a break before hitting the high seas with Godsmack, Five Finger Death Punch, P.O.D. and Sevendust on the ShipRocked 2012 cruise, which takes place from November 27-December 1.
